The Grade 4 curriculum by Live Education comes complete with several main lesson blocks that help support the development of the 10 year old child. Grade 4 is intended for children ages 10-12 approximately. The main lesson blocks in year 4 are the following: The Norse Myths, Beowulf, the Kalevala, Imaginative Math and Fractions, Man and Animal, Local geography, Drawing Animals, The Introduction to the Fourth Year Curriculum, The World of Animals (companion volume), Teaching Grammar with Imagination. Additional books are recommended for some of the main lesson blocks which can be found in the Introduction to the Fourth Year Curriculum book.
Blocks are rotated throughout the year with main lessons lasting 2 hours (and sometimes more), with blocks lasting 3 or 6 weeks. I prefer to do my grammar and math block in the fall, history in the winter and science in the spring, but that is a personal preference.

Do you have a video that goes over how you homeschool different ages with the Waldorf curriculum?

I do, but I don't think I ever released them! I do go over each grade (except grade 8 which I haven't recorded yet), and those videos share some insights.

Hi Hannah, where did you find your circular wooden skip counter with string? I thought I might get one but am not sure what they are called.

I think that one was from Jennifer’s treasures. Here’s a link.www.treasuresfromjennifer.com/products/multiplication-ring-multiplication-circle-skip-counting-times-tables-waldorf-montessori-number-wheel

I've been considering using Live Education but wonder, do you feel it would be a good fit if a child is behind in reading, writing and math? I am referring to a mild to moderate learning disorder not an intellectual disability.

That’s a great question and while I can’t answer fully, I will say that all my kids read far later than what’s expected in schools today and would have been “behind”. However, when we look at development and appropriate teaching content and expectations, I don’t believe my children were ever “behind”. I would advise you have a consultation with the live education team before buying to make sure it’s a good fit. I believe they consult with anyone choosing to buy their curriculum.

Hi Hana, I'm just starting to learn about the Waldorf style of education. What do you transition to after the 8th grade? I am so intrigued. We have our upcoming 5th grade curriculum but I am learning more and more about what is out there and so I am wondering about the Waldorf style beginning in 6th grade. It is the science that has my attention. We have a lot of space out here on our farm and I am becoming interested in making part of our shop into a bit of a lab so we can get out of house in the long winter months. I like the melding of art and science.

What a great endeavor! If I were you and I would do as you are planning. Turning part of your shop into a lab sounds fabulous. With the Waldorf curriculum, there are years where history takes center stage or math or language arts, but starting in 5th and 6th grade the curriculum starts to be science heavy and the was Waldorf approaches science is brilliant. It's experiential and observable and within the sense of the student. It's not abstract or theoretical until high school. I hope you do this and I hope you share the progress! I start formal schooling at 7 years for grade 1 so grade 9 is still middle school and grade 8 for us. Then at 10th grade, my children transition into dual enrollment with community college and by 11th grade they have exited high school and are full time college students.

@@PepperandPine I find Waldorf is so interesting. I feel like I am leaning towards a Waldorf approach. This week, I stopped our US History lessons and moved towards drawing the history we read and writing some text (anything Morgan wants and remembers) under the art and building a binder-book as we go. I suppose I should contact Live Education and have a chat with them. In the short period of time I've been homeschooling, I have found myself really interested in something other than any kind of regular school. This is driven by watching how my daughter seems to learn. I feel like the more I get out of her way and become her assistant and guide, the greater her knowledge. Also your chalk art is awesome. I feel sad thinking about you erasing it! 😄

Wa’alaykum Asalam! Your life sounds amazing 🤩 I wish I had lessons for high school, sadly I don’t. I pray you may find exactly what you need.

Vc pode se inspirar em conceitos e atividades. Eu fazia isso com meus alunos de inglês. Claro, muito mais fácil quando eles são crianças. Pra high school eu nunca tentei.
