Pretty much the reaction of the Nintendo fanboys here. From the way they are commenting, it's as though Jared spat on the graves of their ancestors for just grading the press conference.

to be fair, nintendo treated this as a spotlight not conference, and also a pre-recorded video isnt a conference to be honest

I don't completely disagree with them considering there were more announcements during the Treehouse presentation... but why does it matter? It's literally just a personal opinion video. Why care that much about it? Why does it matter who "won" E3? Video games are dumb.

E3 is a dead event that is only around for tradition sake.

The thing is Nintendo has the Directs to give most of their announcements, so they have no real reason to present E3 like Sony and Microsoft do. Judging only the presentation isn't really fair because most of their stuff gets announced over the year instead of just one day.

Huh. I guess I always considered the GameCube titles "close enough", what with the acquisition of Pokemon, story involving the taking down of an evil team, and overall use of the main RPG systems. But you're right, they don't have staples like gyms, or the elite four. And yeah whether it's a gen 4 remake, gen 1 remake, or something new entirely, I'm definitely interested to see what's in store!

It's something everyone kept asking and they pretty much just came and said "you know what? even though we don't have anything to show right now, we are indeed working on a new metroid game and for the prime series at that!" Gameplay would have been nice but you really don't need to show it since what they set out to do was show people that it was a thing and start building hype for it. They will do a Nintendo Direct when they can show us more

People bitch all the time how they want Metroid Prime and it'll be a hot seller but nobody cared about the gamecube which had 2 prime games and wii which had one prime game. Only nintendo fanboys gush about metroid prime games. Nintendo needs cod and fifa with no downgrades from sony and microsoft if they want to change their image.

Gamecube was third place in it's given generation. Switch is kicking ass/taking names. That makes a HUGE difference.

To elaborate on my point here slightly, it takes titles like Metroid Prime to start building a more "hardcore" identity for a library. 2-3 more games with a more serious "rated T or M" type vibe and the Switch will start to see movement in a more hardcore market. One of the number one things I heard during the Wii U era was: "I might buy it when there's a Metroid". It might not be a massive numbers seller, but it's a system seller. People care. Metroid Prime 4 can be considered akin to Bloodborne when it comes to low sales expectations but massive appeal and draw for core gamers.

That could be true and you could be right, but I do think Nintendo has a really big image problem that can't be solved by themselves. The gamecube had Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 0, RE 4, Geist, 2 Metroid Primes, Metal Gear Solid, Killer 7, Star Wars Bounty Hunter, 2 Rogue Squadron games and it never took off. The Switch is selling well with barely any games out, but I still think it's a huge hindrance that they get watered down ports of fifa and cod, not to mention their online network is still cumbersome.

There is a major difference here. I know everyone was always saying that metroid was dead. But come on, we all knew that was bullshit and that Nintendo would revive the series eventually. Shenmue 3 on the other hand was really fucking dead. As dead as can be. I never expected to see it in my lifetime. To this day it still is bizarre to me that Shenmue 3 is actually a thing.

Nintendo can be pretty stupid, but I never believed for a secound that they would be stupid enough to let Metroid die. And if that would have been their plan, Reggie would've never worn that metroid pin. And at last years e3 he was asked if we could expect another metroid and his answer was: "ask me next year." So come on, you could totaly see it coming. I was expecting it. Reggie is not stupid. He knew he had to follow up on his words. It's not like this came out of nowhere. There were even rumors that explicitly stated that we would see two new Metroid games at e3. So I really don't get what is so god damn suprising about this. Shenmue 3 on the other hand is a contender for thebiggest suprise in video game history. We really should not compare those two announcements.

I agree in theory, but there weren't many actual reveals in any of the presentations this year to fulfill the purpose of the presentation. And some of the trailers were either rehashes of previous trailers we've seen or just didn't show anything new about the game other than another angle of an area we've already been shown. I feel like gameplay is great for keeping hype going on a game that's already been announced, whereas if no new information exists (or they don't want to share it) they should just give us a quick reminder that it exists and not give actual trailer time for it. Fire Emblem Warriors is especially hard to swallow because Warriors games are ALL GAMEPLAY. So cutscenes are kinda pointless unless they reveal something new, like new characters, which this one didn't. Jared just wants new information instead of being reminded of something that we already know.

This year's all companies are downsizing their presentations even Sony so for this year Nintendo is not exempt from that. There's a reason they are called " Media Showcase" and not conferences we got year or two ago. And Nintendo stuff are so predictable it's didn't make me excited,feel good to know that both Metroid Prime and Pokemon RPG are now in development but that's it. I'm actually more hyped by Mario+Rabbids it's their new stuff including the catchy jazzy song for Odyssey.

"Nintendo is a different format to every other conference." Which officially became irrelevant this year due to half of the other publishers doing the same thing. Bethesda only had Pete Hines show up at the very beginning and end to talk briefly about the company, with the entire "conference" being a movie ("Bethesdaland") showing off a number of CG trailers and little else. Most pegged that as a weak offering by the developer. Sony did something similar, both this year and last, by having Shawn Layton only show up briefly and make short statements after blocks of announcements. Most of the time was spent running trailer after trailer. The audience in that theatre didn't look impressed at the end of it, especially when half of it was comprised of reveals that had already been made in 2016. Devolver Digital took the time to shit all over E3 tropes in a one-hour "conference" streamed on Twitch, which was more a package of movies lampooning games and their own titles. EA and Microsoft were the only ones that did what we would call a "traditional" press conference. The Treehouse is part of Nintendo's package. So is the post-conference gameplay discussions/reveals for Microsoft, Sony, et al. There is functionally no difference between these post-event packages, so stop claiming it is.

ZipplyZane see the forest in the trees dude. Nintendo is FINALLY giving us what we want, and these guys aren't like Microsoft where they cancel something when it's almost done. They made a bunch of actual good decisions with their ips, and they also have some good third party support. They're probably my favorite console this year in terms of games and use, but even I put that bias aside because I can see the value in owning all three and a pc... Still out of all of these groups I feel Nintendo showed the most improvements and the most excitement for the fans.

Agreed. Nintendo showed they are very aware of what customers want. I thought the presentation was slick and balanced. The only major mistake in my eyes was no mention of Virtual Console, but that should come in Treehouse.

They should be praised for not making us watch through a bunch of gameplay of a game we might not be interested in. Had they followed suit we would have spent 5-10 minutes hearing them talk about Kirby, instead they moved onto the next game.

He's not pointing out who's "winning" E3, that honestly seems to just be in everyone's minds as they watch the conferences. He is grading the presentations and the presentations only, not extra demos and interviews shown afterwards as they are meant to be supplementary to the main presentation, not replace the main presentation. Lastly what he said he wanted more was them giving more time/effort on Fire Emblem, Metroid, and Pokemon specifically which he said is the areas where the presentation was lacking severely. If anything this is actually very good constructive criticism for the companies running these press conferences.

that's the main problem with youtubers now a days. they act like anyone in the comments that doesn't agree with them is a hater, who's opinion doesn't matter. In fact i hate when they do this so much that i immediately unsubscribe or stop watching said youtuber when i catch them doing it. When you generalize the people who don't agree with you, you essentially shut out criticism, and that's not a good way to run a channel.

Well we don't really matter, remember. I mean, we aren't making these videos and stewing over a shitload of information because our choice of employment demands it. It isn't even like we got to drop $250 on a golden ticket to go be disillusioned by E3's true nature because we were too stupid to realize that it's a convention for the media and not the public, regardless of the fact that several annual conventions specifically geared towards the public now exist. Well said it is time like this that Jared comes across as a little narrow minded. I mean how many other conferences lacked a lot of game play for games. Could Nintendo have shown more in the spotlight yes. However Jared was way to harsh on it it was still great what Nintendo announced and showed. It had me way more excited from anything else I saw. Which other shows still had some good stuff so I am not biased.

ProJared is a great content creator and I won't pretend to know how hard he works, but the fact of the matter is that once enough people disagree on something, i.e. how he handles something, it becomes fact that changing your approach might be the better solution, if only to show that you're not throwing anyone under the bus. Of course, any comments that are straight up asshats can safely be ignored, no reasons to give them the time of day when they can't even show the bit of respect that's simply courteous.

Because he's just talking about the main presentation. And to be honest, most people don't watch the Treehouses, or any of the other post-Conference gameplay bullshit the other companies do. They watch the conferences to get a feel for the games and move on, only coming back later to watch a play-through of the games they are interested in. That is why so much focus is put on the conferences, because they are what the most people see, and Jared has made it clear he is only grading the presentations.

Goombasareawesome I think the rationale is more treating the treehouse stream more like the live demonstrations of Fallout/DOOM VR or the like: it's a side event providing more detail after the event, whereas their main presentation is the most anticipated part, their "pitch" for all their new games coming in the next 12 months. With the demonstrations and streams, they have all the time in the world (comparatively), whereas the presentation is only about an hour at most.
