This was the first video game I ever got as a little 5yr old kid, I could never get past lvl 2 so to see you do such a great job is awesome to me, way to go Arcus!!
same here bud, grew up watching my dad playing this game and when I tried it was impossible for me...now I try and lvl 2 as well 🤣 what a nostalgic music!
Personally I've only ever made it to the 2nd level like once. These are the type of games you have to actually get good at and that requires time and motivation.
Loved gradius 3 on snes. Made it my mission to beat it on hard mode when I was younger. Never got the chance to play the original though. Nice run Arcus!
I remember it took me way longer than 11 minutes and 1 life to pass this game back in the late 80s. Probably because I chose the laser option instead of the ceiling shots. Still one of my favorite plane shooting game.
There's definitely slow down going on especially with alot of sprites on the screen. But the NES handles it well by being consistent. So its not stuttering. It'll also start alternating sprites shown per frame so that it can fit more. Which is why you see things flash occasionally when alot is going on.
just for clarification, he collected power-ups until the "?" power-up is highlighted. then got the thousands digit of his score to 0 then collected another power-up to receive turbo fire. To activate the warp to stage 3, you must destroy each of the four hatches that appear on this stage when the thousands digit of your score is even. Of the four hatches, three are on the lower portion and one is on the upper portion. To activate the warp to stage 5, you must destroy 10 or more Moai statues. Use missiles to destroy bottom lying faces, and double-shot or options to destroy top lying faces so he didn't get the lazer on purpose because he doesn't need it the thing that i don't understand is that he keeps shooting when its lagging.. and this is a speed run.. won't the game run faster if he stops shooting?
sometimes i get on youtube and don’t know whether to watch michael jordan do slam dunks, marshawn lynch absolutely demolish the field, or watch Arcus just eviscerate the entire catalog of NES games. mash mash mash and clunk
You should check out Gradius 2 on the Famicom if you haven't yet, its an amazing game. We never got it in the West cuz Konami made a special cart for it and in the US, only Nintendo made the cartridges so if your game need a special mapper chip or whatever (look at the Famicom's version of Contra with the moving backgrounds, mini maps and cut scenes inbetween levels, all which need a special chip ), you were S O L. Also check out Crisis Force for Konami's mastery of the 8-Bit NES/Famicom. Amazing shooter!
I remembered beating this game without ever dying once as a fifth grader. It was hard and took weeks but once I beat it, the game seems easier as I beat it again and again just to prove to my brothers that I'm that good at playing the game. My brothers had more joy watching than playing. My kids these days with their free-to-play games, the times had changed.
Oh man, seeing arcus *not upgrading immediately* with the pickups was really getting to me, even if he knew what he was doing for this run. Still impressive to see.
Interesting that you didn't use the laser much. I use it the whole way until stage 7 when I switch to double. Also, I get over the top of the tentacles in stage 5 and use the missiles...always seemed easier. In stage 3, if you get your options angled down to the left as you go past the faces, you'll kill them and defend against the bubbles. Love this game
Maybe I can't remember properly since its been over 25 years. But I believe I did the warp to skip the 2nd stage while I had option, shield, and Lazer then I skipped 4 as well by destroying the faces on 3rd stage. I always thought it was because I destroyed the bosses so quickly not because of a specific pattern
Destroy the 4 hatches when the 4th to the last digit of your score is even (0, 2, 6 8, etc). That's why he didn't use any power ups like missile and options in stage 1 in order to get the precise scores
Arcus have you heard someone just beaten your record on Ninja Gaiden 1 NES Your time 11m 38s 067ms The new world record holder 11m 37s 833ms TheRetroRunner
I watched both retros and Arcus ninja gaiden runs and Arcus runs were much smoother at the beginning. Retros run almost resulted in a death by the leap of faith bird jump and another spot where he pressed jump and it didn't jump. So there is definitely room for improvement. Arcus, you can do it.
NES classic, Capcom . . 👍 I finished that game when it came out, when I was in highschool. Hard one to beat. & it's better than the arcade version,too.. 🤔 but a speed run ? 🏃 😀 yeah, clunk!
@@weltgeist013thomas6 i owned it. Got it right before double dragon came out. Yes its hard but not silver surfer hard. Lol. Its an easy bet that Arcus could nab a WR pretty quickly.
