Aloha, this is my experiment in grafting Grimal (Plinia sp. Peluda de Alagos) scions onto sabara jaboticaba rootstocks. I use a cleft graft and Buddy tape to wrap the union and scion.
Jaboticaba is also known as the Brazilian grape tree. It bears the flowers and fruits on the main trunk and old wood branches of the tree. This is called cauliflory.
Grimal variety is known to make large delicious fruits that are bigger than the standard Sabara jaboticaba fruits.
Filmed on Oahu, Hawaii.

So far it is a little too soon to tell, but I have a good feeling most of the grafts will take. I will do an update video on the grafts within a couple weeks.

Hey man, I saw you in 'flying fox fruits' livestream and you suggested growing a Jabo in the UK. Are there certain varieties that would take the cold a bit better than others?

What temps do you expect in your area for a low? I hear the variety Campo Ramón can survive to at least -5 or -6C (21F) - It is supposed to be similar to Sabara but grows faster and fruits at about 5 years (depending on growing conditions) I would expect most Jaboticaba varieties to be similar in the cold hardiness, but wont expect them to survive much colder than that.

@@GrowTropicalFruits The lowest since 2013 has been -6.6C, but this was a one-off. I'd say most of winter it is around 0C and rarely gets below -4C. The main issue would be the length of our winters Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it :)
