During our initial descent, runway 03L was in use for landing. So we did the setup accordingly. Later, ATC told us that runway 03L was closed. So we had to change the approach to the Localizer approach 03L sidestep 03R. Due to the good weather, we were able to fly a visual approach on a short notice.
Gran Canaria Airport was also one of the official emergency alternate airports for the NASA Space Shuttle.
