I've watched this video back in 2011. I finally found this video today in 2018. I was really confused with this video back then. But now I've found it, I understand now. Aaaah. The memories back then.
I use to love the GT series, I no longer do. Honestly people need to stop making excuses for the polyphony digital team. They've dropped the ball since GT4 and continually make promises of patches and improvements only to leave people hanging. Graphically speaking, the game is solid, nice driving physics too, but am I to believe that to get good sounds from this game, I now HAVE to invest in a home theater?....that's a load of shit and only something GT fans will conjure up to once again support the obvious short comings of this game. Why is it when you pick a car and the engine starts it sounds real only to get in, drive, and wallah, VACUUM. But in closing I say this, Kaz must be happy to have some of you loyal fans, and hope to keep you around for more promises of revised sounds in GT7 lmao...I'm sure he will just bring GT6 stuff over, duplicate more silhouette cockpit cars to up the car count, use the same sounds and get y'all suckas money.....I'll go play an actual driving simulator PROJECT CARS
Rovenzoo Are you kidding me, please delete this comment.....what the hell do you mean its not for sound and graphics?.....so all the other driving games that have good graphics and sound is doing it wrong?.
Rovenzoo well ok i understand to you it does not matter, however to the majority of people who play racing games, it does which is why so many people complain or stopped playing GT.....Project cars is all about the driving, but it also looks and sound awesome.
+jamaicanlovrboy Lol, everything sounds like shit out of tv speakers, I refuse to watch certain movies with good soundtracks at my girlfriends house because they don't have a home theater, and that comment about sound not being important to racing games???? BULLSHIT, sound is so important lol, Rovenzoo has no idea what he's talking about. Project cars sounds amazing, but they are seriously lacking in content in terms of road cars. No ferrari's, no lambos I think, among many others. No car customization, I really loved how they did that in forza 5 and 6. If only the racing game developers from all the different companies got together to make the best possible racing game, or at the least, EA could give up their fucking license for porsche, need for speed sucks asshole
jamaicanlovrboy PolyPhony just sells remastered editions now. Engine sounds in the game still sound the same as vacuum cleaners since gt3 on the PS2.... Sad....
The fact he said "notice the difference with a home sound system" makes me mad as it isn't even true. I think he meant "notice The difference with a completly different exhaust..."
Yes, the engines still sound synthesized or whatever but it's a hell of an improvement. I'd much rather have this sound than the standard TV speaker one.
Great comparison, thanks for posting. You can effectively use your surround setup and EQ settings to bring out more of the character of the car you want. With the Corvette example, you can tell the low frequency sounds are being really juiced.
Rfactor 2 is the future. When the modding community comes alive in rfactor 2 you will see that it will overtake all the other games. Rfactor 1 was the same. Suspension movement, intertia movement, sounds and feel of the game is still good to this day. Only thing is the graphics are getting old and this is where rfactor 2 comes in. They have even improved on the rfactor 1 physics even more so now its even better. Forget Assetto corsa and iracing as well as all the others this is the future: Rfactor 2
It says something about the game when they can match almost perfectly the sound characteristics of each car using digital sound making, the only thing that bothers the sense of realism is the way gear changing sounds digital. I believe good shifting with a clutch would make gear changing sound more realistic but nobody makes videos of that. But even then the development team is great for making a passionate effort.
The problem is that all cars in GT5 have way too loud TRANSMISSION noise and they sound as if they had straight cut gear transmissions. That plus the synth engine sounds makes for AWFUL drone. And this rises the vacuum cleaner question.
Fantastic video, and a real eye opener. I'm gonna go crank my subwoofer and try out some of the cars I thought were a little disappointing in the audio department, but you definitely dropped some fact bombs here. Thank you.
@Psythm I'm really happy to see people who think like me/us. Thanks for patience in watch it dude!!! For people who played Test Drive 1 and nowadays can play GT5, iRacing, RFactor..., there isn't money to thank people who build these games for us. Thanks for all of you who are enjoying this video!
Like the video a lot. It IS the truth. When I play GT5, I always raise the volume as high as I can. It realy makes a big difference. Nice to see that someone puts effort in making such videos.
@jasjeetsuri Thanks for watch my friend! Nice HT!! I haven't upgrade the exhaust yet (cause I prefer the default setup). About the sounds, as I tried to show in the video, the GT5 is a video game, it isn't a real life and the sound, using the dts decoder with a right sound system, they sounding very nice for a video game and it never seemed a vacuum cleaners. It was my point. There are too much work to do in the video game world to achieve at least 90% of similarity.
@advanceshipper Hi friend! Many thanks for watch! I'm preparing another video with many many cars and the SLS will be there. I liked the way it sounded in the HT. I tell you when I finish the video and we can talk about this really nice car! See you!
@Aekom I agree completely with you dude! Specially this Corvette, I noticed that when I was filming...it is something they need to fix as well (there are other stuff too in this detail level, isn't?) I've noticed there are other cars which have different gear change speeds but almost all of them, have to be revised and fixed. Thanks in watch and congrats for your high level of perception!
I agree completely with you! First of all thanks for came here in my video and write a nice comment. If we analysed DEEPLY, I also think they could have made the sound a little bit good than it is today, specially for a PS3 hardware. I would prefer a game with 10 cars but all of them in high quality instead of have 1000 cars. Thanks for the PD made this game but let's hope they can focus specially the sound issue in the GT6. See you dude!
Did you watch the whole video with patience? I used the same camcorder inside the cars and the room. Exactly the same with the same settings. The focus here was exactly that to get the sound we can listen from the speaker instead of to get it from their "source" in the game. And we could conclude, "games sounds like games".
I love that game alot. The problem is that the sounds are not real(as I recall from Victor), but I know that I would love them because of how nerdy and digital it is. It even brings back the feel of playing old games.
The sound is the only thing I hate about the gt series other than that the games are wonderful.. I wish they would have made the sound more realistic like forza.
Men i just loved your description, it's just what a real game lover should do and say. I just have one thing to add to your description... SPA is available!!! My favourite track thank god. Well done video aswell.
Hey man this video was just what I was looking for! Some cars sounds of GT5 with a home theater :D Now can you please make a video like this but with these cars: BMW M5 '08,BMW M3 E92,Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and the SLS AMG?I would really really appreciate it! I also subscribed
Since using headphones the sound is much better on gt5 plus alot of videoed posted have race modded exhaust as well as the poor quality, top notch video
@handlemannen Thanks dude! Thanks for watch! Yes, "unfortunately" we have to buy at least a good amplifier (sound system) to get that rumble! This game is too deep and detailed. It wasn't made to play with ps3 joystick and tv sound.
Both games are great isn't? And both games have their specialities. Yes, when played using the sound TV the GT doesn't sound good for a "PS3" but if we play GT with a sound system with a subwoofer we can see another game. I tried to show in the video that even GT and all games won't touch the real life sensation and sound, at least for while. And thanks god for the companies who build these games for us, cars enthusiastic! See you dude! Thx for the comment!
The only real reason why people think engine sounds are off is because of exhaust upgrades... Chrome tip exhausts will always make the sound higher pitched...
Funny fact is, the sounds in GT where recorded inside cars. So yeah there is an wind sound, some of engine sound is lost at soundproofing materials inside car etc... .
@OhJunTae Very very nice comment dude! I really enjoy this high level discussions. In the video description I wrote exactly what was my point in this video. I'm not that GT idiot fanboy which think there is only the GT5 in the world and it is better than anything. I hate many things in the game but I try to be careful in my complaints. One of the best things in the GT5 is to play the timetrial in Monaco, Nurburgring, Suzuka, etc... There are too many details and it is so hard to build (continue)
Note, only handful of FM cars has been actually recorded. Fun is a difficult story, 'cause in GT5 you can just setup an open Lobby for everyone, and keep driving around, drifting, drag racing and so on, without having to worry about the leading player, wish FM would have a "Free Roam" lobby
Indeed, PD has done greatly, considering GT5 being their first big title to this generation consoles, huge leap from the GT4, added so much stuff even FM doesnt have, not to mention that Japanese developers are that willing to go in full fight mode with other developers like the americans are.
@DlCKNlPPLES Hi dude!!! Many thanks for watch! I'm sorry, I didn't get your point. I can securely tell you that cars were stock ones (real and game). They weren't tunned and they were recorded with the same camcorder. What did you think was tunned, the gt5 or the real sound?
Oh yeah, forgot to add this: Worldwide Sales of this year, 2012 FM4 - 244,134 GT5 - 307,832 GT5 has been out for 11 months longer than FM4. FM4 was released not even 6 full months ago. :) :) :) :)
Not even close. Need For Speed Shift Unleashed 2, was one of the most realistic, best sounding sims for the console. They even simulated what happens if you don't hit the apex of the track, in which case, you loose traction and get dirt in your face.
@shobin05 Dude, this video is too long, I agree. When you have time and patience watch it again (WITH A RIGHT SOUND SYSTEM) and read the video descriptions ok. I'm using a 2010 hd camcorder and this camcorder was used inside the cars and in the room recording this video. See you!
this is because of how they make the game, they blast each car around a circuit, each car is rigged with computerised sensors and recording equipment, monitoring the cars data and recording the engine/car sounds that data is then transferred into gt5
@dicenessmon Thanks man!!!! Yes, I confess I have to buy it and then we can notice the difference as well but for while my money for these stuff finish haha..., but at least the real cars footage and the gt5 footage, I've used the same hd camcorder. In these cars analysed, I think only the F430s don't have a good quality when compared to the others which were analysed. Thanks for you patience for watch dude!
Dude, srsly, blaming this on a sound system... That is an insult to one's intellect... If this was true then *the sounds would be crappy even when playing a youtube video* with review of some of the cars in GT6. That is clearly not the case. Stupid headpohones for few bucks are sufficient to provide decent sound even with badly recorded youtube video. I don't believe you are not aware of that. No one is that stupid. Drop your fanboy hat and be honest with yourself.
@SimonTrent8000 Hi dude! It was not my point. I wrote in the video description, please check it. It was recorded using the same camcorder ok. Thanks for watch!!
@vix121 Tks for watch! Because the standard ones didn't deserve attention. Read the video description written by me. i would prefer 200 premiums instead of 1000 with these standards. Thanks for watch dude!
The little fact about GT5. Many old cars were just replaced from GT4. All new cars have been recorded using new technologies. Because of it some cars sounds like vacum cleaner, some cars sounds brillitant.
@markingfeat hahaha many many thanks for you comment dude! Yes!!! Another day I saw an onboard F1 video in Spa and I could notice that they have to make the second turn of eau rouge in a middle throttle otherwise it crashes and notice that the same have to be done in the game, is lovable! Nice to found people who have got the soul of this video! Now it's just missing Interlagos racing track :-p haha See you dude!
Something that bugs with Forza is that the sounds don't seem to change when you add Racing Exhaust. Where as in GT5, putting on new exhaust or a different intake makes it louder (or more like a tin can)
Hi friend! Not, you don't need to have a "surround sound". What you have to use in fact is a system which have a subwoofer. A 2.1 sound system with 100RMS +/- will show you a different game when played using the tv sound. Unfortunately these systems are expensive but if you have the opportunity to buy it, do it. You won't regret.
The revs also drops in Forza 4 but there is no engine off sounds. That is why we can't distinguish it. In Forza, the engine sounds always feel like you are constantly accelerating. But the samples are great though.
First of all, just show me where in this video I shown differences between GT and FM? WHERE!!!? Take the time you've spent to write this poor comment and use this time to read the video description. 2nd, I had the opportunity to drove these cars. 3rd, who are a fanboy here is you, not me. You are a fanboy of FM instead of me and the people who really understood this video cause we are fanboys of ALL car's games. "Oh and" I won't delete your comment. I want it here to show for people like you.
@Trip0327 Yes man, unfortunately the 430s don't have a good sound like the Lambo, F40, even the 458 and another ones. In live the sound is a little bit better but, still not good or similar when compared to the real cars, isn't? The Gallardo sound is the most similar, impressive. Thx in watch brother!
Easy to tell you put some long hours into making this video! Excellent from another fellow PS3 gamer, who knows GT5 and GT6 own and will continue to PWN the Racing Fan's hearts with Quality built in from scratch! Thanks!!!
maybe they recorded real car exhausts sounds but they destroyed it somehow while editing it and putting into game ;/ it sounds just shitty, the rpm limiter sounds so bad it makes me wanna do a front flip into a shit ;/ Such a big studio is making this game, probably 1000 people are responsible for sound and crearly they cant do a proper sound effects which a game about driving need it right? Not mention about car damage model... waste of time
I still think Polyphony could have done much better on the sounds, especially since a lot of people complain. Now while I see your point that the cars do sound similar, the sound is far from perfect, especially on modified cars and muscle cars and with the game being around for over 15 years, they could have done much better. For christs sake, NFS has better sound.
Hats off to you sir! You have done a fair comparison. Although this does not totally justify the engine sound quality totally as there are many many more cars, at least you have done something unlike the rest of us who bitch which is better. This really needs more views and you've earned yourself a subscriber!
Why are everybody complaining at the sounds of GT5 and Forza? Why just don't shut up and just enjoy the gametime with this awesome game. And the sounds in GT5 is very good for a game. Gran Turismo is the game of Life!
@vinnievincent85 You didn't watch the whole thing and didn't read the video description. If you know about sound, you know, a sony system is a good sound system as well and it divides/it is between the amateur and professionals. You aren't talking with whom don't know what is talking about.
@TheBlue028 Wow! I really loved your comment! Yes, I agree with you, in the internet we have a lot of these kind of people, they haven't played it in the right way and begin to talk things which they really don't know. I really think with the PS3 hardware is possible to improve a little the sounds, but when it is played in the right way, it never seemed a vacuum cleaner and when compared where we were 15 years before, come on, look that difference! Thanks for Polyphony, Forza RFactor iRacing...
This line needs clarification. Implying that torque steer occurs in all high torque RWD cars, period, is missing the point. Torque steer is generally attributed to imperfections in vehicle suspension, tires or drive shafts (if an engine is placed close to the drive wheels, and utilizes multiple drive shafts, for example). There is nothing (that I'm aware of) that makes RWD cars more susceptible to torque steer. If anything, it's the FF and RR configurations that should be more susceptible.
Thank god!! Finally one who got this whole sound farse into perspective. If you're playin' on shitty tv speakers, ofcourse you wont get good sound. I also play gt5 on 5.1 surround and the sounds are great.
Thing is that this thing is done far better by pretty much everyone else, tuning didnt make everything sound like shit, and only some games do these stupid artificial feeling gear shifts. NFS 2015 does it and i dont really like it, it kinda meets 30% of what people wanted and is still step backwards if games it is supposed to be drawing from give 3-4 times as much content in every field, just with worse graphics and even better sounds for that matter, making engines sound lively and not single sample repeaters like Gran Turismo and NFS 2015 do.
Even with regular TV sound Forza Motorsport 4 (or even 3) sounds as good as Gran Turismo trough my Bowers&Wilkins Home Theater 7.1 setup. When I let my Bowers&Wilkins setup do the work for Forza Motorsport 4 it comes a whole lot closer to real life than Gran Turismo 5.
1. Don't call me son, you are NOT my father. 2. I was born in 91 and when I was very young I still played VERY early racing games that came out in 3D, such as NFS 1, 2, III: HP, Driver 1, GT1, and many others. 3. "FM also sounds like a video game as GT does and other car's game in the world does." You're wrong; it does sound like a video game because you're PLAYING ONE... BUT! FM4 as everyone knows has recorded with high tech equipment the exact sounds from the cars. 4. Opinion: Overall FM4>GT5
@f10italia Ciao F10italia! I have the Sony STR-K885 Home Theater with 810RMS, in a small room, using DTS sound with an optical cable. Thanks for watch dude!
I miss my creative 4.1 surround sound :( all i have is my tv speaker which sucks and my tv doesn't have a headphones plug :( . Ace video, finally people can stop running round sayin fora has the best sounds. (it does in some cases as it doesn't need surround sound to sound good)
Hi dude! Did you watch this video using a sound system with subwoofer? I won't disagree with you about the F430. If you noticed I gave 3 stars to it and if I would gave 2 stars, it will be okay, isn't?. I think the F430 is the car which could receive a sound update, giving to it more bass but the F40 for example, in low rpm, have the same bass I could notice inside the car, and it is really nice to hear it in our sofas :-D Thanks for your nice comment. See you!
@carlosdlguerra Hi Carlos! Many thanks for watching! Yes, let it with me, I'll create another one with these cars and I tell you, okay. If you have time, I've made another video driving a Shelby Cobra in Nurburgring, check it out in my channel. It is another video which is possible to hear the car's sound, specially when I get close in the back of the cars. See you!
Hi brother! Thx for your rich comment! Yes, I'm hating these "kids". Come on! We know that FM has good sounds too, we know that others games have even better things when compared to GT or FM but let's go to discover how to get the better parts for each game. I just like play GT in time trial mode or against friends. I hate to play it with the IA opponents for example. But I tried to show here also how much we have already evolved regarding to car's games. Glad to people who made this for us!!!
If you paid any attention, you would've noticed that cars werent moving much, if at all. I couldnt race any game by using 3rd person view. PS. GT5's 3rd person view shows how gear changes should have animated, like that matter anything, just saying.
Ah, I see what you mean. It seems like GT5 goes for the "ideal" situation and leaves out those variables entirely, while FM4 goes for the gritty realism angle. That said, is it actually simulation or just random chance? Is the effect caused by track conditions or the vehicle (tries, suspension, etc) you're driving? Does the car always have a tendency to pull itself in one direction until rectified? Are repairs possible and do they have any effect on the direction of the torque steer?
