since aero doesn't matter in space, what would be wrong with making a shuttle designed to fly around say, ISS, but in a comical shape like the vw bug? in fact, why were the moon missions done in a car which just looks like a bare chassis? wouldn't it juts have been better if they sat on top of it a shell from a fiat 500 or something, I'd pay to see that

But acceleration under the atmosphere require such aero. You couldn't get out of the earth on a Beatle normally, only if you add MORE and MORE power to thrusters and rockets, and of course, that'd be inefficient. Just like you said, aero doesn't matter in space, but it does on the earth so... you get my point..
