Grand Canyon 4 Day Rim to Rim Backpacking Trip Part 1

Thank you! We did a one night rim to river previously and we definitely enjoyed spending extra time this trip and having time to really soak in everything and not be too tired to enjoy it! The lady at river rest house was upset because we were wearing shorts and tank tops, she said we should have on long sleeves and hats etc.. to protect from the sun and prevent heat exhaustion. She’s not entirely wrong, but we were so early in the morning and almost at our destination already that her judgement was misplaced, plus her tone was inappropriate. I have to say though that she was probably the only rude person I have met so far! Most everyone is super friendly and relaxed. Hope you all enjoy your trip! It’s probably my favorite place on earth 😍

Thank you 😊 we did a lot of squats and practice hikes with our full backpacks. I think just getting out and actually hiking with the heavy backpack is the best preparation you can do because you learn what isn’t going to work. Plus make sure you hike plenty of up and downhill before also. I also started eating a lot more carbs and hydrating extra about a week before we started in. Staying on top of food intake while there is almost as important as physical training for me.

@@claycook5773 hey! So I hadn’t done a rim to rim before this. But it was largely due to the permit system. I expected my chances of getting all 3 campgrounds in consecutive days were pretty slim so I put several alternative routes with open dates and this is the one that was approved. I didn’t mind it though, it broke up the climb out into two days. It is longer to climb out on the North Rim and a higher elevation so we did have some fatigue from the elevation difference but I would do this route again 😊 I have climbed out on Bright Angel as well and in my opinion they are about equally difficult.
