We live 20 miles from the canyon in the state forest of Tioga county. In all the years we've spent on the mountain and all the many hours over the years that we've spent on the rail trail we have never seen a rattlesnake. In fact, we've never encountered any snake. Deer yes. Black bear yes. Bobcats yes. Coyotes yes. Very large racoons yes. Eagles yes. Cinnamon bears yes. Black squirrels yes. Pileated woodpeckers yes. A wonderful large flock of whippoorwills yes, .... But never a snake of any kind. We often marvel at that. So I was very surprised by your visit and close encounter with the rattler. I'm glad you got video because it sure is not something that I can say is happening every day on the trail. Nor on the mountain here where I live. I'm glad you were safe in that you were walking and had time to judge that it wasn't a stick. A biker may not have been going slow enough to judge as quickly. Take care. My husband and I married in 1985 and part of our honeymoon was visiting Niagra falls on the Canadian side and we camped on lake Ontario that night in a tent. We visited New Hampshire, went up Mt. Washington on the cog railroad excursion, and it's still something we go back to do decades later. If you've never been there I know you'd love it and should plan to go. It's something that you'll be glad you did. Also Whiteface mountain in the Adirondacks has an amazing trail that is spectacular to walk. God bless you.
Thanks for the comment. Yes we have been up there a couple times since that video. I did make videos about those trips as well. I guess we were lucky seeing the snake then. This was a stop on our way to Niagara. We had a great time up there but felt we should have just stayed in Wellsboro for the week. The last two times we've been there we stayed at the Pettecote Junction Campground in Cedar Run at the southern end of Pine Creek Gorge. Great place right on the creek. We are always looking for new places to go and will take your advice. Thanks again!

And also have you ever visited Cherry Springs in the middle of the night to stargaze? Cedar Run Inn and restaurant and Black Forest Inn and restaurant are two places my husband and I often frequented on our anniversary or Valentine's Day. I know how much Cedar Run is beloved most likely by you and definitely us alike, that's why I later thought of the Black Forest Inn, along Rt. 44 near Lock Haven, I think you'll like that too it has a wonderful restaurant. You can check it out online. It's out in no where land. Also the Slate Run Store, have you ever been to that, along the rail trail in Lycoming county. It's nice to park there get on your bike and go when you come back you can get food get gifts get drink snacks it's real nice there's also a wonderful restaurant across the creek from the store.

I live just outside Wellsboro. Here's a little tidbit about the Penn Wells Hotel you may not know. During WWII women were stationed on the roof on the lookout for enemy planes. Nice vid.

Our Pennsylvania Grand Canyon is definitely breath taking! We live just an hour from there and we try to go there every year in the summer and fall. Although, the trail is quite something. My husband & I went down once and vowed to never do it again. Because it took us nearly 1 1/2 hrs. to get back up. We were so tired and so sore. I hope you and your wife enjoyed it.
