The Grand Carousel at Kings Island during Winterfest. Built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, it originally opened in 1926 at Coney Island in Cincinnati, OH. Due to flooding on park grounds, the executive decision was made to relocate the amusement park North East of the city and develop a new park named Kings Island. The Grand Carousel is one of the few rides that made the move for Kings Island's opening in 1972. It is the oldest operating ride at the park. The carousel has 28 jumping horses, 20 standing horses, 2 chariots, and an operational 1918 Wurlitzer 157 band organ which was purchased in 1972. Throughout the years, it has received numerous restorations, with the most recent being in 2022. NAPHA recognizes Kings Island's preservation of its carousel and band organ for many more generations to enjoy!
