This is when Music was Fun..No bright lights and fireworks..Tight stage..The crowd..loving it all..All the bands were doing studio music at the time..Beatles et all..Grand Funk said enough..lets have fun..We needed it..and they gave it..Thankyou for this video!!!!
Yeah mick fully completely with you on this one ,I just placed a reply,I was 12 in 73 I'm from 61,but I started early, with 10 years my first singles, lol, but with 12 ,actually 73 Christmas, had open mama he he my two first albums were grand funk, the live album of 70 and deep purple made in Japan, lol, don't laugh couldn't tell ya why these two albums back then, well mick however your completely right,I just love these , well, you know these minimum rock bands, there are enough back in the business these days he,black Keyes, of whom, well of Dan Auerbach, live on a solo trip, lol,I guess,he musta been into grand funk,he plays this one almost exactly like the funk version, awesome and actually didn't know before, its an old animals cover from 66,and just read that Eric burden did a version 2001,gonna get into that, well mick,if you get to read this,I'm Ralf from holland, wishing you loads of love and light coming your ways, cheers up
The sheer power of this performance is beyond amazing! Marks blistering guitar playing, Mel’s thunderous bass line and the pounding of Don on the drums is epic on the grandest scale!!! Long Live Their Music!!!
What I admired about Mark Farner was that he was one of the very few guitar players worldwide that never had to have his eyes on his fingers and guitar while playing. Mark the extraordinaire guitarist doing his this thing. Millions of guitar player's past, present and future have to ALWAYS keep their eyes on the guitar and their fingers while they play. Mark Farner Was Grand Funk Railroad With A Style All His Own.
There are many guitarist that don't look at their hands so wrong ! But Mark and Grand Funk was one of the down and dirty rock bands that stood their ground they was bad ass !!! Once Mark left them Grand Funk didn't exist 🎵🎶🎸👍
Sure, my buddy, I could notice that deed when catching the video, great, magnificent, admirable, noticeable, remarkable AND one of a kind, but I think you should say " doing this His thing" instead of what you say. Anyway, that's a super observation I' ve never seen in a guitar player, AND you are right. Congrats.
I can vouch for that I'm a guitarist also , and seldom look down, at neck I started playing around same time as grand funk, great band 👍 I played with a guy named Dino Livingston, a great inspiration to me, when I started , unfortunately he's no longer with us, his band was called loosely tight , 👍
It's a very long time since I was in a Grand Funk Railroad gig, one of the best bands from the USA, along with Steppenwolf, Mountain, Sir Lord Baltimore, Manilla Road, Bloodrock, MC5, Vanilla Fudge, Iron Butterfly, Creedence Clearwater Revival ............ they made of the 70s hard rock and roll scene something extraordinary with their sound ........... great rock times that hardly can be matched by bands of today.
If l remember right l started listening to GFR in 1971 when I was 17 yrs. Old. They had so many awesome songs!! Gosh it takes me back in time when it was PEACE,LOVE & ROCK-'N'-ROLL. I will be 70 this year! 2024
YES, I am also 69. Turning in October. Saw them twice in Germany in 75. Stationed in the right place at the right time! A dream come true! BEYOND AWESOME !!!! 🐓🏴☠
so true brother. Pure sound and performance. No electronics. No laser lights. Just full blown get down and work. Bands in those days were exhausted after a show> Farner's shirt would've been soaked ... if he'd worn one
OMG..those guitar solos by Mark..& bass by Mel/drums by Don. Such an amazing feat by all! Marks vocals R something else! Just luv this entire performance, hands dn. 🙂🙂💗💗
I would have to disagree on at least one point. Santana played at Woodstock in the 60's I saw Santana two years ago, and he hasn't missed a note in 50 years. It was just like hearing a studio album all over again. CARLOS SANTANA, YOU STILL ROCK.
Это уже классика рока. Чудесная команда... с трудом можно поверить, но прошло больше полувека... Волшебное чудесное время. Эх..., сейчас такой теплоты в исполнителях нет... Браво Гран Фанк !!!... 👏👏👏💥👍
It's actually the Live Album audio version overdubbed on the video performance. Nonetheless, it shows what they were about in concert and the size of the crowd and the reaction are brilliant
This morning, my 65 year-old mother shared me this link via Whatsapp. Now it's noon here, I'm blasting this song through my new set of speakers and I feel like I'm the luckiest and most loved son in the whole world. Greetings from Mexico City!!
My Grand Funk Railroad! Leave me speechless every time I listen to this live. A powerful trio at that time. You can't get no matter than this in my opinion. Grew up as a teenager listening them. And now Im 60 years old and still jamming it! Love you guys! And this kinda music is never gonna to just die out. Legendary!!!!😊👌
It gladdens my soul to watch some the REACTION videos on RU-vid. Amateur rappers and hip hop musicians are reacting to Inside Looking Out 1969, inside a studio and they LOVED it. I did too, consider Mark was only TWENTY ONE. Hopefully word of mouth.....
This was my first taste of music when I was a kid my older brothers are GFR freaks they were teenagers and I was a little kid Brewer was my very first influence besides Buddy Rich because he was on TV alot then listening to this is like going home again great memories!
I saw GFR in January 1970 at the forum.Still the greatest concert I've ever been to and I've been to hundreds of concerts. My ears haven't stopped ringing since that day!
How lucky were you! I was only 10 years old in 1970, but I wish I had been born 5-10 years earlier because I tell you what, I would have gone to these live concerts and Woodstock!
Without a doubt, one of the best bands ever. During the 60's and 70's I saw Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, Jimi Hendrix, CCR, Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, Santana, Three Dog Night and the best of the best of those times. Grand Funk Railroad was as good or better than the bands I named and saw in person. Truly a SHAME this Great band is not in the Hall Of Fame.
They AREN'T in the Hall of Fame? That is a mistake. How can rock and roll development even start to exclude Grand Funk Railroad? They were pioneers with their sounds and music. I listened to them when I was in the 7th grade with the headphones my brother had. I STILL listen, rock, and roll back into time...the early 70's, for example...wow. pure rock and roll
The Hall of Fame personnel suck there should be people running it that understand rock and roll from the gut the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame now is a farce a fucking truck of shit that is crock of shit and that's about it man
OMG!!! If we just had a time machine 2 go back to these awesome times in rock history. GFR is one of the best bands ever..& SO deserving of being inducted into the R&R HofF..if any band ever was! ....
I still can't believe that GFR isn't in the so called, Hall of Fame. Take the majority of the bands that are in and put them and Grand Funk in a venue and you'll see which one fills up the fastest. GFR sold out faster than anybody. Get your crap together Rock & Roll HOF.
Wow! What a performance! I was only 15 years old when this concert was held. I missed a lot of good concerts because of my age. But I'm glad I found this song live. This has got to be the best live performance of Inside Looking Out. I wonder what the policemen in the background thought of this concert. Wish I were there during that period of time. Great performance guys. Grand Funk Railroad Rocks!
I was 14 when I seen Grand Funk at Cobo hall in Detroit. My ears rang for 3 days. My first concert was the Animals I was only 10. By the time I was 15 I'd seen tons of concerts including Jimi when I was 13:) Peace
Not only that the beatles had to hire young girls from a girls school to scream at the airport , but they were a good band but hardly the great rock band they pushed . On the other hand GFR smoked so much in the early 70s , they were rated the #1 live rock band in the world , cause the people have spoke.
And The James Gang (with Joe Walsh) also gave Zeppelin a serious run for their money on tour. Peter Grant wasn't happy about other bands stealing Zep's thunder.
By far favorite band. I had all the 8 tracks. I would be blasting GFR through those Cricket Box speakers that sat in the backseat of my 1970 two tone baby blue Toyota Celica. Thank you Mark Farner for the memories. God Bless you Brother.
@@bflo1000 You better believe it! I was a freshman in college when they performed this. Rock critics and many of my college peers did NOT dig them. I Loved them!! The Red album Rules. Glad you young people appreciate!!
@@mikelewenson1818 Well Mike, I'm not that young either! Too young to see GFR, but I had the Live Album after it came out and basically wore it out, LOL. You're right... The Red and Live albums, Closer to Home and E Pleuribus was their best stuff ever!
@@bflo1000 Well a lot of people back then were OLD when they were YOUNG. Now they're really OLD. In my mind, I'm still EIGHTEEN!! ( was 18 in 1970 when that song came out) GFR FOREVER!!
I purchased this album 2nd hand in the UK in 1973 at the age of 10 and I still consider it to be an absolute treasure of my collection. The ultimate power trio of all time. I actually have a German pressing of it as well!
This is killer.. I used to watch these guys on my bike 3 houses down as a kid as they jammed on the porch here in flint Michigan. Craig frost the keyboard player was our neighbor. He was a real nice guy and now plays with bob segar…
Great Story! I grew up in Detroit loving these guys. Seen them at the Olympia in Detroit on the Closer to Home Tour. Ten tier A Mail Order and went with a bunch of Highwaymen and Zulu's. Not the kind of people you want to Scalp 🤓
Nugent and KISS were both loud as hell too. Worked one Kiss show where Wendy I Williams opened for them. Was up in the rafters with the lighting and pyrotechnics guys, making sure everything worked when it was supposed to. Ears rang later even with com muffs on...
@@jerrywoods4066 GFR was considered as the loudest rock n roll band in the world in the early 70' definitely from 1969-1972, even Ian Gillan pointed out : "we are by no means the loudest band in the world as the Guinness Book of Records says. We may be the loudest they ever measured but compared to people like Grand Funk Railroad we’re quiet man!”
@@MrWhoevr Yep and his greatest work was as Joe Walsh , that shit was stellar . My god man Grand Funk had 2 killer vocalists , one of THE greatest rock bass players . One song does not make The James Gang the pinnacle of power trio .
