Taken from the ultimate 'Bosnia' video shot in April 20 1997 at The Palace Of Auburn Hills, MI. We all wish for a general release of this diamond... Howard Eddy jr on keyboards.
I'm a 71 year old who has been a GFR fan since I was 16. Although I have always loved their R&R, I never realized what great musicians they are until I saw this.
They once sold out Shea Stadium, 55,000 tickets in 72 hours, to this day, only the Beatles could ever do that. In 1970 they sold out 2 shows at Madison Square Garden in 2 hours, not even the Beatles could do that, lol. From the looks, sounds and extremely high levels of their performances in this video, I can see why. Cheers
I will always love this classic song. GFR will forever be my favorites. I looked up the chords of this song yesterday and will be doing an acoustic guitar cover of it soon. 😎
I know a person in their mid 20s that worked their show in okc and was chatting with Mark Farner side stage before it opened. She said " I was taking a break and that old guy that sings with the band is actually pretty cool he walked up and we talked til I had to go back to work." I was floored, you talked to Mark Farner?? She said whos that? I said the vocalist of Grand funk railroad! Oh the band, yeah I guess so. Just a job to her, almost legendary to me.
I got the Mark Don and Mel album in 1971. It was such a fantastic album. We used to open up the front windows at my mom and dad's house and crank it up everyday. Then I got to see Grand Funk in concert in 1974. The were the best.
Still sounds so good. One of my all time favorite bands. Brings back such better days. Makes me sad. Would love to see them. They came to Augusta Georgia. Back in the Late 70-'s Seen the last song. At leat I seen them.
One of the most underrated band of the rocking late 60s-early 70s rock n roll scene. I rate them alongside Sabbath, Led Zep and Deep Purple as the metal bands of all times.
You are correct. I'd include Vanilla Fudge in that line up. Back then, the brain dead critics talked down the Fudge and Grand Funk RR. Critics have no talent, so can't recognize it when they see it.
Mark don't need Don Brewer nor Mel Schacher! Mark Farner is Grand Funk Railroad! Mark wrote the majority of GFR songs, he was the lead singer and the lead guitar player. Mark don't need Brewer or Schacher who voted him out of the band after they formed a three member corporation but Mark Farner didn't realize what he had signed, the other two founding members Brewer and Schacher voted him out of the band and they play under the GFR banner but it took three new members to do what Mark did on his own in the band. Brewer and Schacher will never be GFR and the fans know it. Mark Farner is Grand Funk Railroad period.
Mark B Thats funny. I started out on bass because of GFR. I played their first 3 records over and over again copying those bad bass lines and played in a 3 piece rock band in the 70’s. Good times!
Now hold it for just a second--MARK B has a point. Among the myriad of musical instruments Mark F has mastered in his illustrious career=did you know that he STARTED as a BASS player?? And that many of MELS bass parts were actually written by Mark Farner? So Mark B is not far off in his praise here
@@impalaman9707 all I know is when I heard GFR when I was 18 all I could hear was Mel's thrashing bass and I had to have a bass , my first bass was a Peavey Patriot bass , I now have a Fender Jazz I bought back in 2014 and its a great bass. Thanks for the reply.
Thanks so much for posting. This song is truly iconic for the times and one of the all-time great melodies for any time. The way that the orchestra members play this with such free abandon and pleasure shows how much they appreciate the genius of this haunting composition. Eternal thanks, Mark. And you, too, Mel and Don.
I was at this show, wish they would release the video in full. A couple buddy's of mine are in the orchestra, mainly DSO members ( Detroit Symphony ). Tremendous show, they got back together again a few years later at DTE. Can't wait to see them again!
I remember hearing Mean Mistreater live when my older brother played his Grand Funk live album very loudly one day. So loud, that I heard someone in the crowd yell out, "F*%k 'em!" Then someone answered, "Hard!" Always loved this song!
@@robertellison4691 I will say that I LOVE Leslie, couldn't count the times I saw him,,, but, I stopped around 1999 cause he didnt even try to put on a real show, sad. He was good at this though, a short cameo.
These guys were awesome in concert. Saw them in Atlanta late 60's. Every one I knew was into Mark, Don and Mel. I still have some of my original vinyl. The first time I ever heard of a song titled Paranoid it was there's, not another groups whose initials are BS. And I still like GFR's best. And Mark Farner all that time was playing an aluminum bodied, and neck guitar.. These guys deserve recognition. Get the Capitol Collection, 30 years of Funk, or Caught in the Act, which another group ripped that off. Or the "Live" album. These guys paved the way for a lot of people. And put out a ton of great music.
Outstanding!!! One of my favorite GFR songs. Thanks, I'm so happy I found this incomparable video. Boy, do I wish they could get back together even if only for one show. I'd be there.
@@howie9751 That's okay some people didn't get what 'raw rock funk" was...they took it as a negative but it most definitely was a positive. Their HUGE ALWAYS PACKED Concerts proved that...tickets sold out every where they went..Mark and the other two knew EXACTLY what they were doing...all very talented..unique and very RAW and powerful...it comes from "inside" you can't pretend or fake that..
The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame should induct Mark Farmer and leave GFR out of it.... Why are people OUTRAGUED by what Don Brewer did to Mark Farmer tricking him out of the band and its rights, when Mark wrote the music???? Anyone supporting Don Brewer or GFR w/o Mark an equal part, is not a good human being.... Think.
I agree 100% the man that wrote most of the songs and composed them, who sang them, who played three different instruments in one song and sitting..and they chose to exclude him? They are no longer GFR after Mark was gone..so yes, I agree Hall of Fame what is wrong with you snobby people? This is raw rock and roll to the core of your soul! And Mark's voice and guitar and energy was limitless!
That's the first drummer that I've seen play that correctly note for note !! Thank you !! Not too difficult, but I've seen so many drummers mess that up for some reason. Great job, sir !!
At the year of 1997 grand funk railroad finally made their dream come true, to perform with an orchestration on stage, I saw a few songs from the shows on youtube and I listen to the double album more than often, to my humble opinion it was a great success
