Our short visit to Grand Lake St. Marys State Park in St. Marys, OH, near the western border of Ohio, from Wednesday, 9/25/2024 through Friday, 9/27/2024. We left a day earlier, since Ohio was starting to feel the windy conditions from Hurricane Helene, which was then approaching landfall in Florida. It turned out to be a monster storm and we were glad we were not still camping when those winds reached Ohio. (We later learned that it caused considerable damage to our timeshare in Belleair Beach, Florida, causing us to cancel our planned trip a few weeks later. We are hoping it will be restored in time for our next visit in April 2025.)
The campground itself was very nice, and we had a great site. The fishing, unfortunately, was not great, but what made it worse was the questionable quality of the lake water. Since our favorite camping activity is kayak fishing, we are reluctant to plan a return trip here, until we are sure that the lake water quality has improved.
