It is so wonderful to see dancers so in control and at the top of their game. Their confidence enables them to charm the audience completely with their eyes and épaulement. Have to agree with all of those who believe that Guillem owns this variation.
Every Sylvie performance that I find on YT is like a rare jewel. I am not a ballet expert by any means. but the thing I love most about her technique is the precision of each move. She’s not trying to impress anyone with dazzling speed. She lets each move slowly unfold. It’s like watching a bird fly in slow motion.
Ce pas de deux est tellement effrayant techniquement, rien que la diagonale des relevés 4e fouettés détruit les jambes et les pieds , mais quand on plus on arrive à la série de pirouettes fouettés tours en seconde... Une telle beauté, une telle maîtrise, un tel travail, c'est au dela du prodige.
I'm not ashamed to say i do not know anything about ballet..but to me those two people and that dance (GPC) is what ballet should be. I have no words to describe how just..perfectly beautiful everything was..and that male dancer was (to me) THE PERFECT partner. Everything about him..was pure joy to watch..and that kiss on Sylvie's hand....oooooooh...love it. What a gentleman!

Ottimo il mantenimento delle pose figurali assunte nell'ensembe. Ottimo quello che con un mio neologismo mi piace chiamare con volo aereo ed elanista della ballerina ottimamente indotto e tenuto dal partner con bilico di difficoltà massima ed eseguito con una non chalance esecutiva d'acchito sorprendente.Grande impressione di levità fatta tensione motile sorprendente nella ballerina .Ottimo impadronimento direi imperativo del proscenio del ballerino a balzi falcati amplissimi ed a sforbiciate aeree e traverse spettacolari. There is another video with both of these great dancers but the videos quality is much better, clearer. In that one Sylvie is only 19, amazing performance too.she is so beautiful and elegant.
Is this on YT and do you have the link? I've been trying to find the complete GPC that goes with the YT film posted by MrLopez comparing her with Elisabeth Platel just in the variation. I thought that might be this one, but the tutu is a little different. In that one, she just seems to suspend time in the attitude turns early in the variation. Any help appreciated!
OMG I didn't notice till I read this and rewatched! So she's human after all? (Rewatching, I notice that her shoes are extremely soft and wonder if, due to those naturally gorgeous arches, this might have contributed? If you really look, her foot becomes almost overarched on some of the long balances, and she's sinking into her shoe a little bit.)
Even if she makes a mistake at the first relevé balonne from the diagonal ( the very first one after making the very first turn en dehors: at 7:18 ): Just observe the right foot as she tries to go on relevé on pointe: Sylvie Guillem will stay forever as the best. AMAZING !
It doesn't seem possible but she got so much better as she got older. She didn't stay at one exceptional level. She got more exceptional. More expressive, more fluid, more flexible and stronger though her legs got thinner. Hate to say this but she has ruined ballet for me because I am judging according to seeing Sylvie. No one compares.
her hands, her hands, the vibration running through her arms. How soft and vibrant is her upper body and precise and strong are her legs. That's legendary.
Except that her eyes are very distinctive (and beautifully large and round, at least in stage make-up), I think I could recognize Sylvie if she had a bag over her head due to her feet her feet her feet but also the way she articulates them. Also the wonderfully supple back that makes her overall line and penchee so beautiful!
Domenico non potevi fare paragone piu' azzardato! ahahahahh no sto schrerzando...pero' la Platel e' agli antipodi di Guillem. E' insicura, pesante, tutta scuola e niente talento proprio, una bambolotta sempre sul punto di avere una crisi di nervi e molto signora per bene con le perle e il cerchio in testa per tenere i capelli. Sylvie e' come David Bowie. E' rock. E' punk. E la loro danza riflette i due caratteri. Non so....che ne pensi?
I agree that Miss Guillem is superb in this variation and her balances are breathtaking, but I still prefer the wonderful regal quality of Elizabeth Platel.
There’s a Russian couple. Her last name is Paley I think, maybe Tatiana . Look for 1986 . Oh gosh, now I’m not certain . His name starts with an ‘M’’. No help am I but you can look it up. It’s absolutely magnificent in its execution and the timing! Never seen anything like it. Not taking anything away from this but , just look it up 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Его имя Владимир Малахов и он выдающийся танцовщик и да их Гранд па мое любимейшее и их концовка другая именно как у Гзовского она необыкновенная такую концовку ещё танцуют Александрова с Цискаридзе финал очень красивый!!!
There's at least one video floating around YT of Mariinsky's Victoria Tereshkina. You might reconsider if you watch her. But Guillem is hard to top no matter the nationality: superb blend of technical strength with musicality and phrasing. Just watched her Swan Lake. I was in tears just on her first entrance it was so beautiful. I wish POB had a better ending!
Не согласна с Вами категорически! Во - первых отличается хореография и не в лучшую сторону у Цискаридзе и Александровой. А во - вторых Сильви Гиллем - это Совершенство и лучше, чем она, эту вариацию никто не танцует. И партнёр у неё здесь бесподобный!
