who else could write/sing about onions, jail, whistling grannies and being in jail and make it sound so good, sorry you are gone tom t but you are here with me most days in your music and stories of life, thank you for many years of great music and hopefully, ill hear you for many more.
There are no words to descibe how this mans words, voice, and his soul, make each and every song special, and if it doesn't touch your heart there is something wrong with you.
You are so right about Tom T's words, songs and music. I am in my 78th year and this man's songs bring me peace. He also understood when I raised a little bit of h*ll in my younger days, but his family songs like this one bring me back to Earth. RIP Tom T, Hall
My grandma could hardly see but she would sit in her rockin chair and crochet and whistle through her teeth. This song Just brought back that wonderful memory of her.
As a child of the 60s I spent many weeks during summer with my grandparents. What great times I had with them and learnt a lot about life. I love this song.
I been writing songs since 1974 and I listened to Tom and was really moved by his songs about life. I'm from his neck of the woods and when it comes to writing,Tom T was and will always be my inspiration and hero.I will surely miss him,RIP. My friend.
Beautiful tribute to the late great Tom T. Hall. He is in heaven now. From The Year Clayton Delaney Died: "It could be that the good lord likes a little picking too."
@Gerard Moloney "The Way I've Always Been " and "That's How I Got To Memphis " are 2 of my many favorites. I'd be amiss if I didn't include songs he and Dixie wrote, in retirement, for bluegrass band's like "The Hound Dog From Harlan" for Big Country Bluegrass. They'd write the songs, then bring the artists they wanted to cover the song to their home, Fox Hollow, and get them to record the song. The process included homemade banana pudding and sweet tea.
I think of me being about 4 or 5 and standing beside my mama in church, looking up at her singing while they sang all those old songs.... I still hear her sweet voice every time I hear The Old Rugged Cross, In The Garden, and so on.... precious times in our lives that cannot be relived. Thanks be to the Lord for allowing us to keep those precious memories and to retain the hope of seeing our loved ones again in a place where there's no pain or sickness or work or worry. Jesus said 'I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by Me. Amen.
Young people listen this is lessons from older adults that lived live on a daily basis no excuses but life and truth based on God and respect for others 🙏
Grew up listening to his records around my family all of my life. Glad I had the chance to meet Tom T. in person, hell of a nice guy. Rest peacefully my friend.
My mother always sang while she did her housework, with a large part of that being gospel music hymns. She's in assisted living now and still likes to sing.
Oh, man! How "Old T" could describe the whole Country Scene from A to Z! He was the greatest *EVER* and will never be surpassed. I have over 2GB of Tom T. Hall's mp3 songs collected over many years. There may be some duplicates but they are *ALL* great to me. Tom T. Hall sums it up himself in one of his songs: "What A Song!". Listen to that and realise just how great he was.
"Grandma" did whistle (we were not allowed to call her Grandma, though). She was The Whistling Star of North Dakota when she was younger. Oddly enough, she married a man who could not stand whistling.
I only heard today that the Great Mr Tom T Hall has passed away, very sad. Ive loved his music for over 40 years, i listend to Local Flowers before, i think it is a fitting song, i dont know if he knew John Prine, but I'm sure they respected each others songwriting skills, and reckon they maybe sharing a drink and smoke and takling shit and singin and havin a ball 😂 RIP. MR TOM T HALL.
I just never liked Whistling.. Its.after dark here. My grandma would not let us Whistle after dark..she.always said it. summons the.devil..she came from the old World..
I’m a whistling grammaw myself now. Our pianist (old school) said as I whistled working in the church kitchen- a whistlin woman and a cacklin hen, Will always come to no good end…. Hahaha. I’m still whistling, taught my grandson to whistle!🎶
