Hip Hop was a FBA creation, period. Because there were a few Latinos around at the time of its conception doesn't mean that it was a 50/50 brainstorming or comengling of ideas. All of the musical innovations in American history and American culture were solely and entirely done by one group Black Americans. Dowop, Bebop, Rock & Rock, R & B even has a rhymic sound to it, were our musians were rhyming in their lyrics. And for the deft and hearing impaired, " These musical artforms were early forms of MCing. Breakdancing, DJing also tagging walls were our innovations or Inventions that we shared with these other groups.

The culture of HipHop comes from the evolution of genres like Bepop which was FBA culture. It derives from the artist of the south like Pigmeat and Mom's Mabley who migrated to NY. This is why there's no 1 person that can be pinpointed to "creator" of hip hop. But we can find it's origins with the culture of Bepop and the rapping and dancing which has always been FBA.

Latinos, contributed to the culture of hip hop, but not rap itself. ( in a culture vulture kind of way) through break dancing.The origins of rap can be traced all the way back to West Africa and the griots. Moving forward it was also rooted in jazz, and blues. Moving forward once again you have, The Last Poets, Gil Scott-Heron, James Brown, just to NAME a few. DJ Kool Herc is Jamaican who created the sound in the Bronx but Latin cultures does play a part in Hip Hop from Haiti to Porta Ricans Latin Afro beats played a part along with African American Poets with a Jazz like rhythm, rhyming/singing over these beats gave birth to A new Genre Hip Hop and it was expressed in many ways thru Art, appearances & Experiences, you name it

Puerto Rican were in the Zulu nation heavy, and the Zulu nation provided many of the hip hop culture. The dj was the primary focus of hip hop before mcs, and rappers. Puerto Ricans were in most of hip hop, dj, graffiti, b bwoying, gods and earth's, and Zulu nation. They weren't not the mcs, and the mcs came later. Be bop has influence, like many other genres, but it's not hip hop. We could say disco, and hip hop evolved out of disco. Alot of people don't know hip hop. So yeah Puerto 🇵🇷 are co creators. Did the leave hip hop for a couple of years in the 80s, to house, freestyle, or club music yes. And even within the freestyle or club music it was hip hop in its form. They started listening to Stevie B, cover girls, etc. How do I know because, I was there.

I used to work in the music industry during the late 80s to mid-90s handling street promotions for major labels and would go up to New York all the time. Latinos, Caribbean people, and Black American cultures ALL converged to create this genre called Hip Hop. It was international from its inception and started from the grassroots. Many label execs didn't even think the genre would be successful. They thought it was a fad. Hip Hop Culture was b-boy/girl dancing, graffiti, deejaying, fashion, battles, etc. I personally was able to witness all of it and Latinos (and Whites) were there for ALL OF IT. NYC is the Mecca and was a melting pot back then. There was really no other place in America quite as unique as NYC. Many of Hip Hop's pioneers had Caribbean/Latino heritage even though they were American. Folks need to stop with the racist bullshit.

NYC was filled with blacks and puerto ricans forget the latino part. he meant puerto ricans and blacks. cuz thats all you saw growing up in the hood there. the blacks and the puerto ricans lived together, played outside together, committed crimes together, became friends together, made babies together, etc etc. back then the block only had jamaicans, blacks, ricans there wasn’t dominicans or mexicans around like today nyc. the bronx was filled with blacks and ricans only. ricans breakdanced, and were dj’s while black guys were dj’s and rappers, and danced too, blacks created hiphop with puerto ricans roght next to them wether dancing , graffiti, or just holding the crates and setting up the show for their black friends. so that’s how it went. now history on ricans - ricans are black people too, slaves were held captive in puerto rico, when it was indians there puerto ricans came from slaves on the island, most spanish words we use are african words especially the food we eat. we are black and we can say the N word too. because it’s what we used to period. and blacks love us like we love them eventho we black too if it makes sense.

One thing for sure.....A lot of Puerto Rican individuals from the Bronx were part of the development of Hip Hop as a culture....and they are way less "guests" than any of you people from the Midwest, the South, and the West Coast. And that is a FACT.

SOUL TRAIN IS AN EXMPLE Locking in Los Angeles started in early 70's before break dancing was popular, then there was Pop Locking, another LA/West Coast style, thus brining in "The Lockers", which is probably the most famous street troop ever. So when NY sees Soul Train, they see Lockers, so we did have an influence on the street dance of NY and they took it to another level with the many, many, B-Boy styles.

The latinos were popular with Break Dancing and Garfitti .When mainstream pushed rapping and dj forward . Garfitti and Break Dancing was pushed back. For the culture in the beginning was blacks and Latinos creating the Art of Hip Hop.

Respectfully there was a rapper called Charlie Rock Jimenez who was part of Fantasy Three out of Harlem did a song called Biters in the City where they talking about people from other city's copying the New York Culture of Hip Hop and he said don't bite in Spanish towards the end of the record. I heard that song in an underground break dance movie called Delivery Boys where Charlie Rock was the only rapper Mc hosting the legendary break dance battle underneath the Brooklyn Bridge towards the end of the movie.. Through that movie you can see also how the rich corporate man tried to exploit these young guys by promoting nudity within hip hop. Puerto Ricans did not create Hip Hop culture but through bboying they certainly helped make it mainstream. To be honest older Black folks and older hispanic folks thought rapping was going to be a fad just like funk, disco, and other forms of music that came and went in time. It was a youth movement in New York City that took the world by storm and became a multi billion dollar business. But in my opinion Hip Hop is dead just like Nas said because if it was alive we wouldn't even have this discussion..
