For me it's my Fischer Spassky Championship set in Ebonized Boxwood. Then I also have a reproduction Lardy set I bring a lot as well but the FS Championship is my favorite from Royal Chess Mall. However with the new Drueke Players Choice reproduction. It might be in the running for favorite.

You’re the second person to mention royal chess mall pieces. They must have a good selection of pieces that are playable. I played a tournament game on the Drueke players choice (I won -1800 player) it was an absolute pleasure to move those pieces in a tournament game. Great choice (pun kind of intended 😂) !!

And that Fischer-Spassky set must be nice in Ebonized boxwood.

@@thechesscollective yes indeed! The Knights and Bishops are my favorite pieces from that set.

I have several chess sets, both wooden and plastic, that I could bring to a tournament; but for some reason I gravitate towards my German Knight set and my Chavet set. Something about them makes them feel very nicely balanced and professional. I loved your sets, though. The size and shape of those bishops is amazing!

Good ones! I agree you have to find that balance.

Very nice sets! Right now I use a plastic set from House of Staunton -- the -"Bobby fischer - black/white - 4.o king - the set weighs - 57 ounces! You can see this set and other plastic sets on their site! What I like about this set so much is the following; 1) the bases are ALL very wide- the king base is - 1.875 and the other pieces ALL measure height and base -- in incredible consistency! The weights of each piece has matched the each other so close! The opposing army was the same way! This whole set matched up so nicely--- I really like the wide bases! The details on the pieces are very good- how they poured the molds left NO SEAMS on the plastic! The White army is OFF white, is very nice! What I didn't like - the FELT on the bottom, just like you are talking about! So I already took the off felt off each piece, I learned what is QUALITY felt( I could not believe the big difference this made!!) I even added some "quick drying spackle( DAP brand), added it to the bottom,, covering the steel piece inside-- leveled off, the spackling ( that was important) then-- used wood glue( yes on plastic)-- added new felt on the bottoms and cut to fit the piece( that was easier than I thought it would be) ----this turned out great!!! All that being said -- I get very tired of taking "plastic" pieces to my club and tournaments- so my other go to set resembles your set-- I got the "Pro Staunton" Red/ black lacquered from Royal Chess Mall- king 4.1 the set weighs 52 ounces( a little less than they state on the web site!) I really like them-BUT -- no one else brings their wood pieces to club!!! That is a little disappointing! I really like the lacquered look - I do not think they are too reflective or make my eyes tired! I know everyone has their personal preference- its just a really nice change from plastic! I also love my 4.4 - "Grossmiester"( grossmiester means GRAND MASTER is russian) set- form house of staunton - They are heavy and just beautiful-- I just don't have the nerve to take them to club - since no one else brings wooden sets! Do many players at your club bring their wooden sets or higher end sets???

Hi CHOWA great comments! Are you referring to the Fischer Reykjavik set, where the bases are slight larger than usual? I like the weight on that set. Good idea with the DAP -I never thought of that, I'm sure it stops that metal piece from rattling (I hate that!) As far as the felt I agree that changing the felt is a good investment. I might do the same for my HOS Grandmaster (I) set. WOW 4.4" is a tall king very cool. You also would need a Hefty board to handle that set as well I presume. I looked up the Pro Staunton set from Royal Chess Mall. Very Similar to the HOS Regal set I discussed. I love it! There are a couple of interesting sets at my club from time to time. Now that you mention, I will make some You Tube Shorts and show them as well when I get paired with those players, so stay tuned/notified... I will do that for you. Thanks again for watching and your comments.

@@thechesscollective Hi, The plastic Fischer set is not the Reykjavik set, that set only comes in 3.75 ( plastic version - on House of Staunton site) mine are just "Fischer 4.0". I take vinyl or mouse pad boards- I am sure you have seen them- they are very lite! My vinyl are 22 by 22 and the Squares are - 2.375 . they are a LIttle bigger and fit these wide bases easily-- actually your royal set would look nicely spaced on this! The mouse pad boards are called "large mousepad boards" on House of Staunton -- they are so nice and ALSO have 2.375 squares! So my boards roll up nicely and fit in my chess bag! I am not trying to promote House of Staunton-- its just where I got my boards and pieces that fit my want! Hope to see more sets and other chess related videos from you!

@@yakkyuu12 Oh OK Fischer 4.0 got it. I like the mouse pad boards because they don't wrinkle. And thanks for the kind words!

Don't tournaments in the USA provide sets and clocks we do for almost all weekend tournaments in Canada?
@thechesscollective
@thechesscollective Год назад
I have seen tournament sets and clocks provided at the Marshall Chess Club, New York and some Scholastic tournaments. Here in the U.S. one of the main companies that run weekend tournaments is the Continental Chess Association. They do not provide sets, you have to bering your own. Also the local club tournament I play at is bring your own. So I guess it varies. Thanks for watching!
