More of puzzle solving, Danya! This is in my opinion the best instructive videos, because during puzzles u share your vision, thought process and decision making and everything is just perfect for learning.

Jesus! The depth of calculation that goes into Grandmaster level chess is simply astounding. I've recently reached 2000 (lichess) and I'm still at the "if he they do this then i'll do that, and if anything else I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!" level. The higher rating I get the more I realize how far away I am from master level. Fantastic video!

Great commentary throughout. Your ability to communicate the ideas behind the ideas in clear and concise language while solving is appreciated.

Daniel always explains in a way that makes sense. If I had enough money and could choose who I want to teach me chess, it would be him. Even if Magnus was cheaper, it would still be Daniel.

The point you brought about Hemmingway is true and allows people to really hone in on their goals. Its like reading the course content your prof. assigned only vs, doing that and reading the textbook. Why read the textbook, when you can just study what you have to. It's because you're trying to get an understanding of what you were trying to learn in the first place. This is also completely different from working harder vs smarter, but to learn the work has to be done. Good point sensei.

My head almost exploded on the first puzzle, but it was unbelievably cool. And instructive, as always

When Danya took time on the last one to 'look at the puzzle in silence' I was quietly impressed that he closed his eyes and went into his mind palace. When he shared the resulting lines and gave an explanation that I was just barely able to follow and it dawned on me that he was doing that all in his mind a minute earlier, I was blown away. Great video as always!

I always go on a hot streak in puzzles after watching one of these videos. Then the bad habits slowly creep back in...

I liked the way he explains every move before playing.. Very instructive.. But speed run is more instructive I think.. Great work sir. ♥️♥️

Love the puzzle solving videos! In some of the longer variations, I would recommend stating the first few moves then asking the viewer to spot the next move more frequently. I think it's a great way to force visualization.

man you are a genius,i am only 1800 but now i know why, the way you find a balance between calculation ,intuitions and ideas is is mind numbingly good. And on top of that great instructive for beginners all the way to advanced

Here's a ~1500's thoughts on those puzzles. Maybe someone is interested :) 1: I actually kinda solved this one. I didn't find 4.Na5!, but 4.Nb4 with the Idea of 4...a1=Q 5.Ra6+ QxR 6.NxQ and if black tries to now run with the h-pawn, we are just in time with the knight to catch it and at least secure a draw. In a real game, I'd be somewhat happy with not losing that position as white, so I see it as a win :) 2: This one I didn't understand, it felt too easy. The rook is hanging, but if we take it with the Queen now we lose the bishop on g5. So I guessed that simply Bxe3 followed by Qxg4 should work, I did not consider white to just move the rook out of danger since then black is just up a pawn and able to save the bishop. I considered Nd4 as a candidate move but couldn't see anything concrete. I also tried to find a variation where white actually threatens to win the queen with Bf5, but again couldn't find anything. So I dunno about this one *shrug*. 3: A little too much for me. I guessed that taking on h6 with the knight is the best move, my reasoning was that it frees g8 for the king (which is obviously pretty wibbly-wobbly in such a concrete position). I did not see any discoveries with the rook. Probably would have lost this one in a game. 4: I identified h6 as the best move but never saw the skewer, so I couldn't calculate any line to the end correctly. I was interested in the defensive idea of Kf7, g8 and h7. So for example 1.h6 Kf7 2.h7 kg7 3.Rxg6+! (Black cannot take the rook since we are queening) Kxh7 and I wrongly assumed that Black could hold this position with only one pawn to stop, but apparently it is winning. The other line would be 1.h6 Kf7 2.b6 Kg8 and here I simply missed that g6 isn't guarded anymore and we can just take it, so I didn't see a way forward. Kinda meh, that one was solvable. 5: Checkmate in 2 wasn't too hard to see even for me :) 6: 1.Rd8+ RxR 2.QxR Kh7 3.Qh8 looks a lot like checkmate, so if black cannot take on d8 we just win a rook? I was pretty much too lazy to calculate if black has a perpetual with Qe1, I just assumed it would kinda work out. Too bad, maybe if I looked further I'd have seen Qd8+! Completely missed it, but that pattern is noted now. 7: I figured we win a piece here. After 1.Rh1+ Ke2 2.RxR+ KxR we took one defender from the Knight on e5. Now 3.Ka5 forks the other two defenders and opens our Queen's vision on e5, the white Queen has to move, we take the Bishop on g3 and then the knight next move. Sadly, as Danya pointed out, after Na5 (or any other Knight-move) Qxf7 is mate. That would have been a cold shower :D I am somehat happy with identifying the e5-Knight as the main weakness though, that doesn't seem like the most obvious observation to me. 8: I was tired of calculating and let Danya solve this one all by himself - seeing the solution, it's a really cool puzzle though :)

basically to solve GM level puzzles u gotta be able to calculate a good amount of moves and a few different lines. and i cant do either of that. my max is like like 5 moves and then i forget what im calculating

The pattern of 6th puzzle ive seen a lot even in lower rated puzzles from 1800-2000,where you end up checkmating with rook like that,its something that i picked up almost immediately

As a more advanced player, I feel I learn a lot more from this format than the speedruns. Especially those endgame puzzles, which I am not very good at.

Hi Danya, would love if you or someone could offer their opinion on this. What does it mean, necessarily, as far as rating, if I'm solving a 2500 level puzzle? for example, would you estimate that a 2500-FIDE GM should be able to identify the solutions to all 2500-level (as defined by chesscom) puzzles in, say, 20 seconds or something? Is there *any* correlation between the level that you're solving and where you "should" be as far as OTB rating?
