"When I look at the stars, it makes me want to tell a story,
Up there, it's a reflection of our dreaming."
Wayne Thorpe on role of the night sky in preserving his culture.
Lead and advised by First Nations people, Grandmother Moon was an exploration of astronomy and our earth, through the lens of aboriginal culture and storytelling. Using installation art, physical performance, music and puppetry, Grandmother Moon engaged the school, community an artists us in the connection of the stars, planets and our earth through Dreaming.
Grandmother Moon was an immersive, site-specific, interactive performance-installation work. Grandmother Moon was created across two terms, from February to May 2021. Artists began development of the work with a 3-day Engine Room Residency through Arena Theatre in 2020.
