I absolutely love doing these cars too, if it were up to me I'd focus on these exclusively. I'm hoping to get a few more of these classics on this year, working on some leads right now.
Man, I never knew about this car ! Honestly, i'm quite surprised by it. It's styling is actually pretty nice all things considered, and that interior looks superb ! Also, loved the review in general. The style of editing in this one as well as the flow of the video was great. Glad the music is different too, the songs you chose for this one are much more fitting for the content. And since RU-vid prefers likes these days i'm more than happy to give yours :)
I really appreciate that, thank you! Since I had a few days with this one I was able to put more production time into the way I'd film it, and I wanted to do something a bit different than I'm used to. Now that RU-vid is 'suggesting' we use Chapters to identify different parts of our videos I was able to use that when filming.
Grandpa Niles 🤣😁 love this car and the Oldsmobile brand great interior for a 25 years old car really. I'm still waiting for the Buick Roadmaster review
I'd love to feature a Roadmaster! One of the best names for a car, in fact so many excellent names from the 90s like Roadmaster, Colony Park, New Yorker. There's a few for sale out this way but they're all pretty rough. I'll see what I can do!
I was obsessed with this car back in high school. I wanted it more then the 7 series I had. I ended up getting one as a winter car but it was just the regular 88 not the lss. I live in the north east and these are so rare
I would absolutely get one of these in 2023. I love Oldsmobiles. I would get this over an Aurora even though you could say the aurora was maybe sleeker. But the lss is still really nice imo AND it has the tried and true 3800 V6.
I was very tempted by this one, it was a real treat to drive. They're hard to find in good shape today but if you find one I'd definitely recommend it.
Thanks again for making this one possible! I thoroughly enjoyed the time I had with this one, and I'm so glad I had the chance to feature an Oldsmobile LSS in this condition.
I owned one of these non-supercharged though it had the full LSS logo, wheels, seats, dash, suspension, etc. It had all the other main features that made it an LSS. Car was plenty fast even non-supercharged. Lot's of low end torque which is where the fun is. Drove it for about 8 years up until 166K miles. Throughout the time that I owned it I had the upper intake gasket replaced, AC compressor, Water Pump, EGR valve, engine thermostat, wheel bearing assemblies with ABS replaced on some wheels, and other standard maintenance items done. Other then that it was a very good reliable car. Got into a small crash with it in 2006 causing the air bags to deploy wrecking the dash and front window which I replaced. At that point it became my winter beater car. Later sold it cheap and still running in 2008 after inheriting an olds Alero from my Grandparents with only 53K on it. The Alero was a fun car too. Not quite as fast as the LSS but felt a bit sportier in certain ways compared to the LSS. Quality level wasn't there by comparison but with my LSS all beat up with higher miles it was time to move on.
Passage of time makes this look better. That engine is the high point no doubt. I can see hints of Aurora in this. Aurora and Intrigue were Olds real attempts at grabbing younger customers. At the time I was in my early 30s. Went to look at them at a Olds dealer. Unfortunately once Olds sales man realized I was cross shopping against Accord V6 he just bad mouthed that Accord all the way. I was the target customer, a yuppy lol. I was so turned off never looked at a Olds again and bought the Accord V6. GM’s best effort at grabbing new customers was Saturn. Alas we all know GM shifts directions quick and what happened to Saturn.
Reminds me of the Conservative Party of Canada today. Always with what’s so bad with Liberals, instead of what’s a positive winning Conservative policy.
Definitely some Aurora vibes on this one, the seats were basically the same ones found on the Aurora minus lumbar support, and the rims are supposed to be inspired by the ones found on the Aurora also.
Saturn was actually GM’s downfall and the money that GM bled into Saturn could’ve been funneled into Olds to revamp the entire division. The Aurora was to get a new direction for Olds but GM whored that unique platform out to every other division and made the Aurora less unique. Olds really got the shaft in lieu of Saturn, Hummer, and Pontiac and they ended up eliminating those divisions anyway. Sad and ass backwards.
I don't imagine there are any out there in Germany! GM was notorious for badge-engineering their vehicles, but I believe this chassis was exclusive to North American vehicles.
Southside Chicago car these were everywhere just like the 90's Rivera , Park Avenue Ultra , RoadMaster, Regal GS, 95 Cutlass Convert, Toronado Trefeo coupe, Olds Bravada and Aurora.
Stumbled on this video accidently and just loved the grown up style of the review. Great content! Great car! Great camera work! Thank you for featuring this rare (novadays) vehicle.
Glad you enjoyed it! This was a rare treat for me, I love doing the older cars like this but they're hard to get a hold of. When this one came up I jumped at the chance to feature it.
I have a 94 lss I bought at an auction for 700 dollars it currently has 183,000 miles it had some minor mechanical issues that I've. Scinsce fixed so far it seems very reliable my goal is to restore it back to it's stock original condition their very elegant beautiful automobiles .
Can't go wrong with that! Sounds like the mileage is pretty low all things considered. Hopefully you're able to get it worked on and up to the condition you'd like it to be in, good luck!
The "LSS" version first arrived in 1992; the description is in the brochure. I sold Oldsmobiles from 1990 until 2004. I leased a 1997 LSS. That model year got the newer console and shifter and the new Oldsmobile rocket logo on the front. The rear decklid got the newer LSS lightning lettering. 1999 was the last year for all 88s, as you mentioned, and by then many LS models had the LSS wheels. The 1996 LSS was the first release based upon Dennis Burke's "Ironman 88" design.
Thanks for sharing! We've had a lot of interest in this vehicle recently, either the LSS in general has gotten popular or a much larger channel has posted a video on one and we're benefiting from it. Either way I really enjoyed my time with this Olds, and part of me wishes I had bought it from the owner when it was offered to me.
I think it's worth checking whether or not the supercharged version falls into the the hydro-lock problem; it may not, as I understand it has an aluminum plenum, as opposed to a plastic one in the unblown engine. I have the latter ( LS), and it almost blew on me. In any case, you have plenty of warning, as you will notice a coolant smell, yet won't be able to find a leak. As time goes by, there will be coolant smoke when you start up (it goes away quickly) indicating a slow leak into the cylinders. If you experience any rough running when cold, get it to your mechanic immediately! The culprit is a coolant channel cast into the plastic intake manifold plenum that forms cracks that leak. Be sure you get an upgraded part with metal tubes cast into the manifold. If you want performance, do seek out a car with a supercharger, as the unblown cars, despite a flat torque curve, need revs for decent horsepower, and they're geared for economy (2000 rpm at 79 mph). I either downshift manually at the bottom of a long hill or kick down, then hold the car at the right revs to avoid a premature upshift. The stock engine gives me 15 mpg city, 20 mixed and 25 highway. The blown version will be about 2 mpg less.
I am in love with these cars. I have one that my grandma gave to me before she passed away, it had power, but it wasn't supercharged. It sucked in the whole radiator's worth of water, and washed out the cylinders, and unfortunately shot a rod either out the oil pan, or side of the block, I was too sad to actually look. I have been looking for another car like this one for parts, but the sub frame on it is more than likely rotted, considering it's sat for 5+ years or so in a field. That car means so much to me, I'd like to find a way to get it going again, but I think she's about had it. The paint on both of the front fenders are peeling off from sitting in the sun. It had actually only just hit 103,000 miles before it finally blew. But all sadness aside, great review on the car man, glad I wasn't the only on to enjoy them!
While you might not be able to save this specific car of yours, perhaps you're able to find an LSS in good shape that you can bring some parts too from the one you have, allowing at least some part of your car to live on.
keep doing these videos you have a knack for the jokes and timing sort of and you are informed. This is a quality review and if you stay consistent if possible you exposure will exponentially increase.
So all LSS's, are supercharged. Cuz I've been hound in this guy for a mint condition one, with a champagne color and leather interior and he's willing to sell it to me for 25 00 but I told him I'll do it for $2,000 and he said he would be okay with that The only thing that doesn't work is the AC but I think it just needs to be charged, it has 120,000 mi on it his dad owned it a long time ago and then when his son is in town is the only time that man ever drives it so they basically turn it on rotate the parking on it and then park it and Terry's immaculate paint is immaculate and I let him know that this would be a forever car for me, that I've been looking for a mid-90s luxury high performance sedan, and this to me is one of the most unique looks ever even though I'm a Ford guy this by far is one of my favorites also I'm going to get a mid-90s SHO, because I understand that eventually '90s high performance fancy cars are going to be an item, just me saying this right now I'm going to set a trend
Sounds like a good deal honestly, I was reverse-offered $4k CAD for this one but turned it down. Would have been an awesome deal. Hope yours works out!
I heard you loud and clear and I know that you wouldn't lie to us but GM really thought that this car could compete with a 5 series? Calling that ambitious is a understatement.
If you check out the reviews from 1996, MotorTrend said this LSS absolutely blew any Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti out of the water in terms of raw 0-100km times, but also beat out a number of BMW, Mercedes, and Audis. Compared to say a 540i I doubt it, but that was the segment GM was targeting with this specific version. More like 528i, E320, A6.
I loved these cars. Never had the last but did have regular 88, aurora and cutlass supreme back in high school. I would drive this car right now it looks beautiful
@@PRNTestDrive my friends think I'm crazy for having two of them, but the moment they test drive it, they get the point, these generation of cars were the time America was making cars, they reliable and easy to work on, the suspension is superb.
I prefer the Oldsmobile 98 from that era. It took turns at a deeper ratio. The only downside is that if you open the back windows there is a whistling sound when driving the car due to how low you are allowed to lower them.
Great review and video ! I certainly like this Oldsmobile LSS . I own and drive a 1981 Oldsmobile Delta 88 sedan which I enjoy driving it , and I also get the looks when I drive it .
Very nice! That was the first car I ever looked at for myself way back, the one I found was rough but I wonder what it would have been like if I bought it.
I love watching old Motorweek videos. I find a common complaint they had during this time period was a lack of 'full' gauge dials. I'll have to check out their retro review on this one!
@@PRNTestDrive yea I was 22 and came home to buy a used 97 from a Toyota Dealership. It had 76k miles and was asking $6999 and I had gotten a 6k loan for a used car from a bank. This was 2003 but when I got there it had several issues wrong so I end up buying a 94 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with only 64k miles loaded with the 3.4 dohc convertible 5 spoke wheels heads up display moonroof etc.
I'm literally looking at a champagne colored one right now, it would literally be a dream car of mine I've always wanted a high performance '90s style luxury car that people don't see very often anymore, I'm painting these people's house and I'm going to ask him if they would sell it or what I can do to own that car, that would literally be considered like a dream car might swear to God, I've always wanted something that's a little different than what everybody else has but also something that's luxury and has above decent performance, and I would consider having that kind of type of car my whole life I would literally keep that car for the rest of my life, that would be amazing dude it's a long shot but I'm going to try see if they would sell it to me or something, probably not but it would be cool if they did that would be freaking amazing cuz it's just sitting there
It's still a good car to get? I'm looking at one with only 125k or so on it for $1500 maybe a little cheaper if I can. But idk if its a good reliable car? It was a grandma's car. Lol
Reliability seems to be pretty solid on these, the engines and transmissions are better than most for the age, and most will be owned by older folks who’ve taken good care of them. Depends on what you need out of a car, but if you’ve got the service history for it and had it checked over you should be good.
This was GM's attempt with Olds to go after the yuppies and their BMWs' Lexus's Acuras'. Looking at this Olds 88 LSS, and especially the Aurora, is like looking at Cadillac ( minus the SUVs ) now in 2023. These were nice cars. The crap out there today in a sea of SUVs that all look alike and ugly, this car to me would be a good one for today to bring back looking just like it does here.
This is still one of my all-time favourite episodes and cars we featured. I really had a blast spending a few days with this one, and still wish I had jumped on the chance to buy it when I could.
I just bought a one owner non supercharged LSS with 24,124 original miles. I love it! Does anyone know how much this car was for sale for$? Just curious to compare to mine. Thanks.
I think about this car quite a bit, I had the chance to buy it after making the video but wasn't in a position to do anything with it at the time. I'm still not in a position to do anything with it, but would have been nice to have it.
First one to mention it, that’s for sure! I caught it on my first watch through during editing and wanted to leave him in to see if others spotted him too!
I believe the owner ended up selling it, as the listings have been taken down. I was looking for it the other day, I'll try reaching out to him to see if it's still available, just unlisted during the winter months.
@@PRNTestDrive and thank you for reviewing this car, i had a gold N/A one in college until the engine hydrolocked in 2007. Sold for $500 and I shouldn't have.
Probably not many of them left! Sorry to hear about yours, I know how you feel though. I certainly wish I still had the first car I ever owned. Miss it all the time.
This wasn't a grandpa car even when it was new, the Royale in the same showroom with the wire wheels and conservative front/rear clips was for the older buyers..
Perhaps, but the issue with Buick has been image and perception. Younger enthusiasts might have bought these new, but to the untrained eye there’s no much different with it and other Buicks.
@@PRNTestDrive i would like a video of an Infiniti q45. I really want to buy a 94' q45 because i like the interior. Its very rare to find it. But this 88 have a thing that makes me want it too. Really great cars 👌
No in junk yard one I seen a 1990 98 touring sadan if Passerg air bag. I collect Olds Aurora etc.. that back 2000. Like I say 1990olds Touring Sadan.New Orleans. Babe
