Grandparent Alienation: Differences in Coping for Grandmothers and
Grandfathers
Little is known about how females and males may grieve and respond somewhat differently to the tragedy of being alienated from adult children and grandchildren. Six affected couples generously shared their stories,
including what has been most challenging, how the alienation has differed
for each, how it has affected their own relationship, and what has been
most helpful for them. The presentation will briefly link the couples’
experiences to loss and grief, trauma, and coping strategies that may vary
by gender.
