INDEED Nolan Whitesell is. First paddled with him on a 3-day, self-supported Class V trip on the Feather River in Northern California. 2 of us kayakers took up open-boating because of him and that trip.
@@mplvideo A mutual buddy had a private trip for the Grand Canyon. A person bailed a few weeks prior to launch. "Call Nolan and see if he wants to go". I give him call and he first says no (knees shot) . Calls me back in later "you want to paddle the shredder with me"? "Yes" Heck I didn't know what a shredder was, just knew it would be fun paddling with him. Looked it up and found a video of a couple running Nantahala Falls (class 2+/3). They flip. I thought well the Canyon would be interesting
@@stevethomas760 You might enjoy my Hermit run... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yc4qliz1_WI.html Am trying to touch base w/ Nolan again. Found his email. My smart phone blew up and lost all contact info, but this should work. Thanks for inspiring me to reach out.
@@mplvideo Good run! Those waves are some kind of big. I've paddled just about everything over the years but have stayed out of open canoes for the most part. As Dirty Harry said "a man has to know his limitations"
thanks for the compliment. But no bravery involved, really. The Canyon rapids can be intimidating, but with a PFD and warmth, they really aren't dangerous, so grab a paddle and do it. Have fun!
