But Grant is wrong. When you withdraw from a 401k, it is taxed as ordinary income, not capital gains. When you retire, you have an income of zero, so you are in the lowest tax bracket, which means that the 401k withdrawals have a very low tax assessment. Plus, all the years that the money was growing in the 401k went tax-free. Vlad should have called Grant out on this because Grant was wrong.

@@dsouzar1 You never mentioned anything about Penalty free vs Tax free. There is a world of financial possibilities and errors that can be made. However, the primary flaw the Vlad demonstrated is misunderstanding of Tax free vs Penalty free.

It's tax exempt to put money into your 401k. If you make 45K and put 2K into an IRA, the IRS only taxes 43K of your income. It is taxed in retirement when you take money out, unless it's a Roth IRA, which is completely exempt on both ends.
