Get Yourself an Unlocked Pixel for GrapheneOS: (Channel Kickback) amzn.to/3cpJp1F The largest change for most users will be migrating to non-Google. Also, FDroid and Aurora can be installed on ANY Android device. Get them running now and start using non-google services. You can even go as far as logging out of Google on your Android devices and just using these two app stores. You don't need a custom ROM to improve your Android device.
Technology is growing rapidly so we have to be more secure with all the systems that we are using daily... Privacy should be maintained and tracking shouldn't be allowed...
@@christophershirk5610 This GrapheneOS is a good solution if you got a Pixel. However, if you are totally ready to go Google-free or deGoogled but didn't own a Pixel or not fancy this ROM for personal reasons, you can flash any custom ROM that has a native support for microG. From there, you can install F-Droid to the system and experience the FOSS way. How do I know? I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 running Havoc-OS.
I really loved the way how you supported them and how you are concerned about our privacy We really need to be technologically aware now, hope all will be in near future LIKED 👍🏻
A newbie like myself find words and sentences aren't enough to get it through. After much thought and considerations, I think video is still the best option for teaching how to get things done properly.
Its a way a big work to make support for hardware without cutting corners (having to stay vendor blob in system) Drivers are closed source, hardware are closed specs, so it really time and effort consuming task that needs a experienced low-level coders and reverse engeneers (people like that are rare). Graphene devs not want having vendors closed source binaries working between hardware and system, cuz it's a giant sequrity flaw. So it just not worth effort.
When Librem 5 becomes more stable it will also be a good alternative. Featuring hardware switches and a pure GNU-Linux OS. The only thing that prevents me from leaving the Google ecosystem is its maps app; though purchasing a dedicated GPS for the car would remedy that. Convenience over security for me at the moment when I'm out and about. At home, is where privacy is more important to me.
Agree 100% although their prices need to drop significantly to become feasible for the average joe... and their app options need to increase drastically too
Thanks for great video about graphaneOS. Now, i’m using LineageOS on OnePlus 7 Pro & it’s quite good. I’m going to try graphaneOS on my pixel soon. I’m the person who really care about privacy.
Those of you who wonder, what about Google Maps and my GPS, there is an app called Magic Earth that you can instal from Aurora, it runs on openstreetmaps and for me it's even better than Google Maps. Graphene OS user here, it's awesome.
Please walk through installing from scratch...rooting, downloading, installing, and the basics of setup. Thank you! I'm hopeless on tech contributions but I'll definitely support financially!
Interesting project. As much as google violates privacy, they do deliver some compelling services. I'll have to find a lot of alternatives before giving this an install
@@killertigergaming6762 Google Drive and Google Maps for me. I have used apps like Open Street Map etc but they just don't have that kind of data and intelligent navigation. Heck, Google Maps is the only maps app that doesn't show an empty ground where my house is.
@@killertigergaming6762 I want the robustness, no maintenance (for me), and multiple backup features of Google Drive. Oh, and add Google Pay to the list: the only good UPI app in India with no bloat. Btw, you didn't comment on Google Maps.
@@WillowRook I didn't comment on google maps because osm is the only alternative im aware of theres also owncloud and syncthing im not sure how good they are but I recommend checking them out since they seem well trusted and i would recommend going to the sites to see if they offer the features you require. As for google pay there really isn't many alternatives other then apple pay and samsung pay you could just start paying in cash or credit/debit card but if not thats fine
@@techlore Yep, i think i am going to stick with the browser as well. And a backup tool ? Do you have any recommentations ? Thanks for the great material :)
Thanks for video. Why not simply buy a Blackberry Key2 which has both software and hardware security/privacy enhancements built in. Then disable GPS and use Aurora?
Pixel 4 and 4 XL are currently in experimental/beta phase. I plan on getting a Pixel 4 XL when the Pixel 5 is released and they become cheaper and they’re supported. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ grapheneos.org/faq#supported-devices
Hello, I have a question. Instead of installing these type custom roms what if I disable and force stop all Google including play services in my phone?? Will it still be GSF dependent or still Google can watch me or not???
So is there still a need for a vpn like surfshark or express, when using graphene OS in the way you describe? Do you just use signal and no sim card and does that offer added protection. can your phone still be tracked as most currently are. Just wish to retain some privacy... Suppose I just want to understand what now becomes MORE private, how the OS keeps data more private, and does using a sim card then remove your privacy to a degree? How to get moblie data are some sim cards more advisable to others? Cheers, great channel.
Never use a VPN. Ever. It's not as secure as they promise. Your data is already encrypted if you're using an HTTPS conncetion. If you want to be three times as private, for free, you can use TOR. It's an open source browser that passes your data through 3 servers. VPNs usually collect and sell your data. They're some of the worst products available and I would never trust them.
@@techlore Ah, barely hear anything about Archlabs. I love Manjaro since it comes with Nvidia drivers if you choose nonfree and also the easy way to install software with pamac . Don't need to add ppa or hunt down deb files online like you need to with Ubuntu.
Well it’s discontinued now so makes sense. Huh fair reasons for sure, didn’t know about the nvidia drivers. I’ll be switch over to fedora soon, I’ve been loving it on my personal laptop
Hello Guys, I just preordered a Google Pixel 5 and wanna wait until GrapheneOS is available for it. Can you tell me, if it is possible to update Stock Pixels with disabled Google Play Services, or do I have to enable them every month to get the Security Update?
If I get a pixel with GrapheneOS and I install RU-vid, will that compromise the security and privacy of my OS? Now RU-vid is just one of those platforms, I just can't live without and sure there are front-ends built upon the RU-vid AI however they are nowhere good as the original thing and have a lot of nitpicky things that annoys me.
Hi @Techlore Quick question: How much performance will i get when moving to newer phone with grap[heneOS ( Lets say pixel 3a -> pixel 5 ) ? Are there any specific features that will make pixel 5 working slower with GrapheneOS copmparing it to original software ? I've been using GrapheneOS for a year now with pixel 3a. Considering phone update.
wish this OS was available on more phones I've spent too much on my phone to buy another and also I don't want to be stuck with the hardware google makes.
For 90% of users, this isn't what you're looking for. The simplicity of a stock Android with GPlay is gone. And that might be a caveat. For the 10% who's willing to give up anything, it's a good compromise.
Is this rom really decrease the performance of operation system when compare the official android? I got an Xiaomi redmi go, It has incredibly lowest level hardware. Im looking for secure and simplistic version of android. But I wonder chancing rom really effects the app performances like youtube, instagram etc.
If you don’t have google play services or microg, get signal from its website, which is designed to work without google play services, unlike if you were to get it from Aurora. Also, the APK from the website auto updates itself, unlike its counterpart.
damn i really wish i could use that ROM as i'm running LineageOS (not to say that its a bad ROM but extra security is never a downside). is LineageOS the only good custom ROM for a Samsung Note 8 Exynos (yes i know its a terrible phone for using custom ROMs ) or are there other good ROMs available for that device?
I have an old samsung note 8s which cannot be updated to any android OS. I would like to attempt to install any OS available . can someone give me advice. Thank you KelseyS PS I dont think that 8s is unlocked, can it be unlocked?

__________ I’ll make a video on Librem and pinephone. They have their own issues. I’m a preorder for the Librem 5 so I’ll be able to review that one when it comes out.
I would like to switch to android again... but even with this rom, as you said “some apps will work, some partly “, well that doesn’t sound good to me and is a negative aspect in terms of better privacy, also i like apple pay and that would kill the option also... pretty sad but still good that those roms even exist and offer better privacy
Do you know if Google authenticator will work with this OS? Some services require a 2FA, and there aren't too many options. Google is usually the only one offered.
1. Yes, it will. 2. Any service that accepts google authenticator can be used with any TOTP app, like Aegis, for instance. Just scan the QR code with the other app. It may say google authenticator but it just means TOTP authenticator app of some kind.
So if you have a Google pixel phone and Graphene OS, your phone won't track you/collect data and send it to Google? I don't know if I should trust that, like is Google really gonna let that happen? I heard that brand new phones with no internet connections still send your location data to Google... I have a feeling the answers to my questions are in Graphene OS's FAQ but when I try to read it it makes my head hurt
No nothing is reported to google with graphene by default. Easy to verify with open source software or basic tools like wire shark where you can analyze network traffic. There’s a lot of misinformation about this kind of stuff.
Did you find any difference in picture quality between stock and Graphene? I've heard things about how the Graphene OS cant make full use of the Pixel's camera potential. As long as it looks as good as the stock camera app without any special post-processing, I'll be happy.
It’ll depend on if the app relies on Google Play Services. We are crowdsourcing this information on Plexus: github.com/techlore-official/plexus There are 130 apps already listed there!
Hello everybody, i am also using Graphene OS and only FOSS apps and i have a question. I want to use a "firewall" like netguard to block internet connection from the apps whoem don't need it + trackercontrol to block the trackers from all the apps and OpenVPN to hide my IP adress. But i can't use these 3 apps at once because the phone recognize them all as an VPN. Does anyone have the solution for this for me?
So what about using a voice assistant to help with GPS navigation via voice like how far is.. next turn, etc type questions, or to set brightness or volume via voice, and what GPS navigation software will allow this besides Google maps
