by far the most fun I've had with a momentum based grappling hook game was the Attack on Titan Tribute game. The level of control you had was overwhelming at first but I could really spend hours just zooming around. I wish there was something similar, but I haven't found anything. Might start to make it myself.

Syndicate really failed to use grappling hook. It would've been awesome if it had an uncharted 4 rope. Something that could be incorporated straight into the parkour. What they have now is a disjointed version of the batclaw.
Eh I didn’t think too much of it. I thought it was a pretty cool feature and gave it some slack because this was around the 1800s where technology clearly wasn’t as efficient as it is today and they were still developing more stable and reliable equipment to traverse around the city. Comparing to the batclaw is just a really unfair comparison imo.
I think a good way to implement the grappling hook in Syndicate would have been to use it in a way that's reminiscent of the rope darts from AC 3, 4, and Rogue, launching it at enemies to pull them towards you but also what you said about combining it with parkour and potentially air assassinations. It could also be used during carriage chases to essentially cause enemy drivers to lose control of their horses as the hook pulls their arm and by extension the reigns to make the horse scramble and crash into obstacles or other carriages It would have basically been the rope darts with unlimited ammo and the additional feature of being used for parkour, but balanced by making it a tool to be equipped like the gun, knives, ect. and by giving the grappling hook itself a cooldown with varying duration depending on the level of the equipped Assassin gauntlet and whether or not it's upgraded
My favourite grappling hooks in games are probably dying light 2, before the hook nerf, Ghost of Tsushima, and Just cause 4. I mostly like the hooks that allow you to actually swing, with the exception of JC4

I think Ark: Survival Evolved has one of the best grappling hooks in gaming. Not just because it's great mechanically, but because the context gives it so much utility. Mobility: swing like these ninjas Construction: get to hard-to-reach spots Raiding: Mission Impossible your way up a cliff or over walls to get in another player's base! Combat: Grapple onto an enemy dinosaur to attack the rider! Rooting: With a group, immobilize an enemy dinosaur like Gulliver! Escape: Grapple onto a friendly dinosaur and fly away!

Man I still think Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4 has the best grappling hook mechanics and physics I've ever seen in video games 🔥💯. Can't believe you didn't add that one 😅
You kind of forgot Doom and Quake. Wow the two games that invented the entire fps genre that even created the programming for grappling. And you don't include those industry creating games....this video is unofficial.
Worms games and ATLAS also have them ( though they are not 3d 3rd person games) Shame that the developers of Worlds adrift had no clue what to do with their game and just killed it. and if you allow Spiderman perhaps [prototype]'s whip arm would count as well.
