Terrapin never gets old, 1st heard this waking up at an overlook, watched the sunrise. Terrapin playing in the background, somehow got turned up, oh man, good times and great music!!
I was 15 for the 1980 Radio City Music Hall shows,,,10th grade,,,my first Dead show was Giants Stadium, The Meadowlands, N.J 1977.,,,these shows were so small and close up ,no mater where you were in the arena,,,,went to the show the night after this show,,,,great atmosphere,,,have been to about 350 shows around the States, and a few in Wembly in London,,,Mallorca Spain,,,loving this music and the memories of the many many shows,,,this music will live forever
The Boys at the Top of their game. Absolutely clicking on all cylinders. The Harmony's are perfect as we ride with Jerry to the edges of the universe and back again. They weren't the best at what they do. They were and still are the Only ones who do what they do. Ladies and gentlemen THE GRATEFUL DEAD 🙏
@@roberthall6345 That's the key though, he said it's what they do, not that it's what they did. Jerry may be gone but the others are just going to get better until it's their time to go. Jerry was the bright flame, he burnt twice as bright but shone half as long. Bobby, Phil, Mickey, and Billy are the long flame (and anyone they choose to join them up there picks up that flame, whether from just a few occasional gigs and massive knowledge of the songbook like Trey or guys out there in the trenches show after show like Johnny and Oteil).
@@Rileys_guitar_lounge ohhhhhh yeah! Dr. Mr. Fantasy is one of my favorite Brent lead-vocals. “Without a Net” has been a favorite release since it came out ❤️✌️
The lacking video quality makes me appreciate the sound quality all the more. Thank goodness that was there, the technology was as far as it needed to be to get us great recordings of the sound. As much as I'd love to see it as clearly as if I'd been there, I can just as easily enjoy this without the video. I am glad whenever I see any of them looking obviously happy though.
I was fortunate enough to make it to one of the Radio City shows, and catch the simulcast of the Halloween show to close the run. I can honestly say that seeing them at Radio City was the most amazing show I ever caught (out of 40 plus). It wasn't just the playing, it was the incredible atmosphere. Of course, seeing an acoustic set didn't hurt. (Bird song and Ripple: oh yes!) Radio City is a very cozy venue with great acoustics and amazingly detailed walls and ceiling. Just looking around was a trip. We were in the front of the balcony and it felt like we were right on top of the band. One interesting anecdote was a few months after the shows, I read about a U2 concert hosted by Radio City in the same time period as the Dead's run. An attendee got up and started to dance in the aisle and security immediately went over and warned him either to sit back down or get kicked out. At the Dead shows, not a single person was sitting if the music was playing, and the aisles were filled with people dancing. The security didn't know what to do. They had never seen anything like it. Just goes to prove the old statement. There is nothing like a Grateful Dead Concert!.
I remember seeing many of the security guards at Radio City dancing, albeit mildly, throughout these shows. Radio City Music Hall was indeed a very special run of shows. The entire experience was magical. From camping out for two days on the sidewalks outside the ticket hall (the line of people waiting for tickets to go on sale was several blocks long), to learning that they added two shows so now we could get four tickets each (instead of only two, if I remember correctly), to being given 'numbers' so we could meander about without losing our place in line ... ... then seeing / hearing / being part of the shows at that marvelous venue filled with its own wondrous charm ... ... then the train rides home each night listening to folks playing their newly recorded cassette tapes ... ... pure magic.
This will always b 1 of my best because Jerry was so passionate about this music @ every place he does this in order plus we were there for a week with them ! A very special time was this more than any other for me because of being there with them in 1980 ! ❤
I understand. For me, this music holds my attention because it is so authentic, so raw, and utterly sublime. Their commitment to play what was alive in the moment is what keeps it alive now. Take, for example, this video. It is clear that the canned, automatic thing to do would have been to go into drums. Jerry, however, stayed true to the moment and played Terrapin. Just wonderful!
I just can’t help myself to keep coming back to this greatest show on earth ! I loved all of the Gratefuldead family + they loved me back ! I sure miss them all that have left us but when I die I will b with the man I love ,Jerry ! ❤️🐇🐰🕊️🪽☮️😘🥰😍💗💖💓😢
200+ Shows here. Rare is the day when memories of this or that one don't bubble up from where they live now. I was at the complementary run of these shows at the Warfield in SF, so of course this video reminds me of those shows. That being said, these performances are just stellar, and the production values are top-notch. Thanks so much for posting it!
Back at the Boston Garden he played this riff for 19 times ! Tripping out of mine but saved a young man from od ing from some bad acid then found myself sitting with a bunch of policemen who were very kind plus obviously Deadheads !
Amazing how good the GRateful dead are. Now that I'm older I get it way deeper than in my early 20s which I knew they were incredible but it's just recently that I was aware of how good Bob Weir is and the 2 drummers and the virtuoso Phil Lesh and how trippy and resourceful was Jerry Garcia. I didn't know he was on the top in the history of guitar players.
First appearance of ‘estimated..’ and Terrepin Station. … SanBernadino ‘Swing’ auditorium… Healy was arrested in an old ‘hanger’ the songs were young and innocent…. Then we grew, and grew! Bakersfield grabbed Healey…. We gots’ Lawyers. $$$ bite me S.B. Police. Healy not drunk, they dropped charges.
Grow up Bakersfield. Not Cool.cops slow upstairs! Healy had set up the delay to reach a very long two-in-one utility dual purpose building! I ‘snuck’ backstage …. Oh oh…. Parrish watched me,and let me climb up to fifteen feet from Jerry! Why he didn’t fling me off the stage…don’t know!……I had drugs, they go and arrest Healy….
I’m back again for 1 of my very favorites because we were invited to go there with them by all the band members as I’ve said before when we all were young + still alive ! ❤️🐇😍😘🕊️🪽💀☠️🧚♀️🧚🏿♂️🧚🏼👽🪐🚀☄️💥⚡️🌟👻🎹🎼☮️✝️☪️💖❤️🔥💓🎶🎵
I miss all of them so much as I’m sure everybody else does that was a true hippie + Deadhead ! ❤️🐰🐇👻💀☠️☮️👽🪐🛸🚀💞💖🕊️🧚♀️🧚🏿♂️🧚🏼💝🪽on a wing of an Angel Jerry is ! My love until I die then I will freely b with him !
When Phil was looking over to his left he was looking to make sure me + my niece were their ! He knew who loved us but we were just great friends with Phil !
I think he's referring to the overall sense of the "thin veil" between our world and the invisible spirit world that is said to be around during every Halloween. but probably especially so during a Dead Halloween run.
@@analogkid4957 lol.. if you have to ask you haven't been there. Maybe you are one of the lucky ones who didn't get to see the vaster extent reality can go to convince us we don't know a fucking thing. All actors on the stage.. I've seen whole crowds exorcised in a Dead show. A glance upwards might reveal what is LEAVING a dead show, in a hurry. I used to call it the Kundalini cleanse. A moving spiritual experience. The ecstatic dance of pure Love. People would sometimes approach me and ask what I was on, and/or could they get some? If I said 'the music' I wasn't at all sure they believed me. Even RU-vid can conjure the Dead. MAYBE, it's what we bring to it, who knows? The instructions are right there: "If you get confused, listen to the music play." Be well.
Well I lost power all day into the nite @ 7:30 or a little bit earlier but couldn’t wait to get back on here to get me some Dead ! ❤️🐇🐰🌹😘🥰😍🥳🤣love for this special concert that I was @ for a week in all ! So satisfying !
We’ll surprise , I’m back more for this special show that is so great to me ! ❤️🐇🐰☮️🧜♀️🧜♂️🧜🥰😍😘👽🪐🛸🚀💥🔥☄️🩵💙❤️💜🩷😇love Jerry as long as I live ! I surely hope to b with him when I die ! 👻
Going to a run of shows you never knew what you were going to hear from one night to the next, but Estimated is one I always waited for. The odd timing, a couple of spots for Garcia to really soar if it was a good night, the changes of pace throughout, and the great low light outro jam. A friend of mine once said that when he’s old and shaky, he hoped his shake would be to the rhythm of this jam :) We’re not quite there yet, but we’re getting closer. I hope you’re doing well, Redman.
the Redman you’re talking about is likely my grandfather on my mothers side. he has been deceased for a couple years now. his real name was rodger hinkle and he was from kentucky.
This is one of my very favorites of all time then again I think in 1989 when they did this same set plus some others that Brent got into ! Jerry was so happy that he was dancing around for as much as he ever moved ! Love so much being there for a week at 2 different hotels ! Brent overdid something in 1 of the hotels so we were all asked to leave but the hotel we went to was so much better + the rooms were bigger ! ❤️🐇🐰🥀🩵👽🪐🛸🚀💜☠️💀🌹👻💖💕🐊🧚♀️🧚🏿♂️🧚🏼🧜🧜♂️🧜♀️😘🥰😍
Jammed out Terrapin. That's something you don't see every day. Starting to think this was their best year or even show. The playing is so tight and Brent is so well integrated after what? A year and a half? And that's being generous. It's hard to be well integrated into ANY band after a year and a half but the guy was an MVP. I see people criticize all other years of their tour, and all other members (for whatever reason, too much this or not enough that). Never see any hate for Brent. Food for thought idk lol. Obviously everyone's on at this show (and at pretty much every GD show at some point), Brent is just one integral cog here.
Wow, that was pot back in 1980 which is unusual. 2023 pot which is legal in many state is supposedly stronger with all the modern technology than it was back on 1980 when this Dead show was filmed
My time coming, any day, don't worry about me, no Been so long, I felt this way I'm in no hurry, no Rainbows and down that highway where ocean breezes blow My time coming, voices saying they tell me where to go Don't worry about me, nah, nah, nah Don't worry about me, no And I'm in no hurry, nah, nah, nah I know where to go California, preaching on the burning shore California, I'll be knocking on the golden door Like an angel, standing in a shaft of light Rising up to paradise, I know, I'm gonna shine My time coming, any day, don't worry about me, no It's gonna be just like they say, them voices tell me so Seems so long I felt this way and time sure passin' slow Still I know I lead the way, they tell me where I go Don't worry about me, nah, nah, nah Don't worry about me, no And I'm in no hurry, nah, nah, nah I know where to go California, a prophet on the burning shore California, I'll be knocking on the golden door Like an angel, standing in a shaft of light Rising up to paradise, I know I'm gonna shine You've all been asleep, you would not believe me Them voices tellin' me, you will soon receive me Standin' on the beach, the sea will part before me Fire wheel burning in the air You will follow me and we will ride to glory Way up, the middle of the air And I'll call down thunder and speak the same And my work fills the sky with flame And might and glory gonna be my name And men gonna light my way My time coming, any day, don't worry about me, no It's gonna be just like they say, them voices tell me so Seems so long I felt this way and time sure passin' slow My time coming, any day, don't worry about me, no Don't worry about me, nah, nah, nah Don't worry about me, no And I'm in no hurry, nah, nah, nah I know where to go
Jerry came looking for me after I hadn’t shown up for a couple years , he said he was missing me ! ❤️❤️❤️🐰🐇🌹🌹🌹🌹👽🛸🪐👻😍😘🥰🎼🎹 if Jerry cared to take care of himself he mite still b alive but I think he was tired of being called a god but also just tired !
