I am testing the transparent version of the Gravis Advanced Analog Joystick. A MS Dos compatible Gameport Joystick. I like the Joystick, it has a solid construction and is a good solution for space shooters and flight simulators.

I was the Product Manager for the Gravis line of game controllers from the late '80s until the mid-90s so possibly I can help with some information. First off, the name of the company was "Advanced Gravis Computer Technology Ltd.", based out of Burnaby, BC, Canada. It was, in the early to mid-90s, the world's largest manufacturer of PC joysticks. The clear case on that analog joystick is made of polycarbonate, a type of plastic often used to produce bullet-proof products. It not only provides a cool see-thru effect but it's also very tough. Game ports were required to connect a joystick to PCs in those days. These ports were designed for analog controllers. The white GamePad was the first digital game controller able to connect and work through an analog game port. It was instrumental in enabling arcade-style games to be played on MS-DOS and early Windows computers. Advanced Gravis also made programmable joysticks and GamePads for Mac computers.

Thank you for taking part in the discussion! I will certainly have gamepad/joystick related questions.

@@VintageTech It is too bad I did not know of your interest a year ago hen we moved houses. I sent several new, still in the box, joysticks and GamePads into the recycle bin. These were mostly "first off the assembly line" units that I saved as souvenirs.

Ron H, hope you're still active. I have this joystick for the NES. I bought it from that video game rental store that used to be at 12th St. and Edinburgh in New Westminister (now a Dominoes Pizza) in 1991 or 1992. Anyway, do you know how many were made?

No, you won´t need a driver for this analog joystick. You only need the driver for the sound card e.g. gameport.
