Gravity Rush (Zero Punctuation) 

To clarify for those unaware: The parts Yahtzee mentioned about work for the military, police, and the maid job where all DLC Mission Packs in the original PSV Game, so essentially they WHERE just excuses for the costumes.

"Man buys incontinent monkey to because he fancies the girl who changes its nappy" sounds like an average rom-com plot.

I know literally nothing about this game except that the CONCEPT ART IS FUCKING AMAZING

That moment when you're playing through the early sections of Gravity Rush, still getting a handle on the actual gravity-rushing thing after being sold on 'flight' in the trailers, and after one of a long string of rough landings you find yourself compelled to say aloud: "That wasn't flying, that was *falling with style*!"

The last time we came this early Silent Hills was still in development.

Played it on the Vita first, glad other people get to try it. The maid mission, and one other involving a military outfit, were both originally DLC, in case that explains *their* segmentation from the original game. Sadly, Yahtzee's still pretty much dead on about all the story kind of spazzing around on itself. It really makes me appreciate when *some* games end with a "Yeah, you remember that one remaining detail from the second chapter that seemed particularly mysterious yet you couldn't explain? Well, HERE'S where it makes sense."

Don't you love how the Escapist's RU-vid channel is 100% Yahtzee? I do.

When Yahtzee says the game has " a certain charm to it" usually means that if you play just for the feel rather then playing and looking for the best experience ever, then the game can actually be quite enjoyable. I'll prolly buy this game.

I worked for a Wal Mart once upon a time when Gravity Rush had just released. The game had been recalled from our store only a few days after arriving for some reason; never learned why. So while I was pulling all of the copies out of the display a young man approached and asked if he could buy one. I told him that, sadly, he could not because of the recall, but I took pity on the lad (mostly because he invested in a PS Vita) and accidentally dropped a few copies on my way to the stockroom.

Pretty spot on. The story and tone are all over the place but there was enough charm to it that I still had a lot of fun with it. Looking forward to the sequel.

I thought the spy outfit was pretty funny considering it was practically a one to one copy of the outfit catwoman wears in batsman arkham city and some of the comics.

I am one of those mad people who bought a ps Vita. and believe it or not, the combat for Gravity rush was sorta fun on the vita. Mainly cos I was standing up and spinning around like a mad man to aim at monsters with the motion controls.

Hey, I'm not mad just because I bought a Vita and played Gravity Rush in 2012! I'm mad because I ritualistically sacrifice people to Stingzzor the god of bees every Thursday night!

Honestly my favorite part of having it on the vita was just flying around. After beating the game I would just fly, and enjoy the soundtrack/atmosphere of the game. It's very zen (first time I've used that word, but it fits).

Sounds like he kind of sort of liked it. So, fourth or fifth best game of the year perhaps? Oh wait it's technically 2012.

I wish I could thumbs up more than once. The "running for president" joke deserve an entire like on its own.

That universe fetch quest mission had a huge feeling of dread the entire time. Love that mission.

Funny that Yahtzee mentions the ambiguity of the plot, given that it was made by the guy who created Silent Hill, the series that he adores ever so much. Granted, the guy behind Gravity Rush only did the first SH, and not the sequel that Yahtzee pleasures himself to, but still.

THANK YOU! It always bothered me that nobody addressed the fact that Kat can't fly. Even in game people keep saying that she's capable of flying despite clearly not being able to. She doesn't fly she just changes which direction she falls. I realize that's the most minor overly litigious niggle someone could have and I think that goes to show how much I liked the game in that that was one of my biggest gripes.

Great video! I laughed several times. I love Gravity Rush on Vita though. It's one of the most charming games I've ever played and the traversal is super fun.

So basically they just made a game about Lightning's gravity device from the beginning of FF13 with only slightly less patronizing gameplay and half as much story.

I love this game to no end ... and I am dying of laughter right now. Yahtzee, you never cease to amaze me! XD

Not gonna lie this game Is a true gem even if the plotlies are all over the place it's so magical and such a good experience 100% recommend just try it out ;)

I actually got pretty good at flinging objects at enemies. It was reliable damage for a lot of enemies without worrying about overshooting and flying off into the abyss. The only problem was not getting hit while you aimed.

Of course, I had it for PS Vita. Which means I own a PS Vita. Which, as Yahtzee pointed out, means I'm completely mad.

Might be just because I'm part of that mythical dying race that knows how to drive standard, but you kind DO have to shift into neutral before changing gears.

Gravity Rush leaves you to connect the dots. It will not give you a straight answer but if you pay attention you will get it. Gravity Rush is not a story about Kat learning who she was but what is going on in that world. And about the gravity switching, just press R1 + X change direction on the spot.

Well crap! I know Yahtzee didn't praise this game to much but he rarely does with any game and this games concept alone seems fun enough to make me want it. Unfortunately I don't own a PS4 or a Vita so Now I'm going to have to figure out how I'm going to rob a store.

Greatest Vita game there is and ever was. Bought a Vita for it alone, never regretted it. such a masterful experience. The Gravity Queen rules.

I do agree with most of what you said but honestly gravity still remains to be one of my most favourite games. One of the reasons is that the game gives me a kind of studio ghibli feel and I fucking love studio ghibli films

I just love how the throwing mechanic is practically useless in gravity rush and somehow insanely op in gravity rush 2.

That gearbox joke isn't actually a joke. It's called double de-clutching, where you have to put the car in neutral first before you can go up or down a gear. Only thing that's good for is giving you an absurdly powerful left leg.

I feel so bad for the vita, it was actually my favorite handheld for a while. Seriously, this Game and P4G absorbed my life for a good while...then Sony dropped the system like a hot chunk of slag, Nintendo opened the 3DS floodgates, and I haven't looked back since. Which is sad because its not a bad system by any means.

when a game's plot threads can be described in much the same way as one could describe a glam rockers hair next to a high powered fan, all I can think is that it's either 1, made with a sequel already in mind, or 2, a proof of concept, rather than a game neither of which are good things for a game trying to be sold as a proper title

You know, I bought the Vita specifically for Gravity Rush. Totally worth it for the rest of the games, but that game was the reason without a doubt.

As odd as this might sound, I cannot imagine how this game would even work with a controller. I havent played the PS4 version, mostly because I don't see why I should if they didnt include more story, but also part of what made the game enjoyable to me was learning how to make the most of the Vita's hardware for all the different movement powers. Sling shotting yourself everywhere, learning how to slide properly, managing your gravity meter by flinging yourself a million miles into the sky before falling to get the meter back, etc. Those all made good use of the entire Vita, not just the buttons, so it just feels like something would get lost in translation to a console. I had a lot more fun doing the challenges and flying around the city than I did with the combat, which I will pretty much have to concede that Yahtzee is kinda right, the combat can be sticky if your one the ground and the sky kick is literally all you need to use all through the game if the enemy isnt a basic groundling.

I was actually one of the crazy people who played the game in 2012. It was really great, probably one of the best games on the system, but no one else knew because no one else bought a Vita.

I'm in the middle of that universe fetch quest now and it's a pretty good ride. The motion controls on the vita help a bit but really I wish they were all around better. I think the outfit is pretty neat, though.

Just a thought, if you want something to rant about, Yahtzee, try out Antichamber. It was released in early 2013 so if you feel like doing a retro review i'd be interested in seeing. As a short description, its a mind bending first-person puzzler reminiscent of the first Portal, except without portals, and Euclidean space.

I quite enjoyed the gravity mechanics. And, while all over the place at times, the story was intriguing enough. I'm excited for the sequel. Side note - the game is ridiculously easy to platinum. I got the game for vita, and despite my glitchy touch screen, managed to platinum the game in under 24 hours. Some of the side mission things were frustrating (well, all of them were tbh), but at least the hidden boss fights were fun and challenging.

The Hancock tie in videogame was a game about a flying homeless person. Check mate, Yatz.

This duology was tragic. There was so much potential in all of it, but they squandered all the good work that's in it.

I got the chance to play this game on my cousin's Vita, and i loved it. the freedom that the gravity shifting gave you as you free roamed around was great. i started playing around where the mysterious master thief was introduced and was hooked from then on. the only problem i had was i didnt know you could upgrade your stats other than by upgrading the towns, so i had horrible attack and defenses, with a huge healthpool barely keeping me alive. was fun though, i liked the challenge.

Given that X-COM 2 has been out for nearly three weeks now, I'm a little surprised Yahtzee hasn't reviewed it, especially since he seemed to like Enemy Unknown. Unless it's up today on the Escapist website, then my comment is null.

I absolutely love this game and will always hail it as one of the best games on the vita (all 5 of them) but I'd be a liar if I said most the things Yahtzee said weren't true, namely the plot being a mess and the rider kick being the best move in the game, but I'd also be a liar if I said this game wasn't pure fun and the closest you'll ever get to playing spiderman 2 the game, but with Magneto instead of spidey. A Magneto who happens to be a cute anime girl instead of a grumpy holocaust survivor but still...

Hi there Yahtzee. I watched your top 5 best and worst games of 2015 on a whim. Afterwards I found myself liking your brand of humour so I went back and watched the rest of your episodes done on the Escapist. I have now watched every single one and my lungs practically jump out my mouth and run away at the mear thought of watching one of your episodes because I laugh so much I swear that they want to burst.

I will say I agree with almost all of it there game does have it's charm. Though it's Anti-Gravity physics are actually handled quite well on the VITA arguably because the controls aren't clunky but very responsive.
