GREASE PENCIL REFACTOR & NEW FEATURES 🎨

​@@activemotionpictures at the moment I am aiming at a more classical hand drawn project, but I will certainly fiddle with cut-out rigging in the near future, and as usual I will make tutorials on my workflow, it has been a while since I made one of these! :)

The release was 5 days ago, actually! But I understand, 5 days in Blender time feels like weeks :D

Unfortunately there is not big progress in many aspects that are more important than Grease Pencil, like Edit mesh performance. Still using 2.79 and don't find it old at all as it does my job faster than 2.8x.

@@jendabekCZ they are working on the edit and object mode. In 2.83 or 2.84 it will be as fast as or even faster than it.

@@jendabekCZ Yes I agree, biggest reason I use 2.8x is because of Evee. Grease pencil looks cool and improved greatly I think for people who like it :D But the 3d viewport performance making me suffer me for big scenes or as u said mesh editing etc. I would really wish some developers comes out and start to would focus on solving perfomance for grass / hair particles (making it like Lumion or other softwares) and trees by displaying particle density or dense mesh density according to camera distance etc, or a built in physical sun. Hope to see them :((

@@mcan-piano4718 I don't even talk about the particle system in general, I use it for planting vegetation on a ground mesh and I must use a lot of workarounds to be able to work with it. There are much more aspect that makes 2.79 better for me (like baking to vertex colors which is still not possible in 2.8x). Eevee is no advantage for me as I do models for an older graphics engine and I don't need to preview any shaders in viewport. I always post all the bugs / improvement suggestions to RIght Click Select site or Blender Developer, but nothing that I find important has been fixed so far - that is why I can't share the hype for these new versions. I think most of hyped people don't do any serious work with Blender. But still it is really great tool, don't get me wrong!

Theres a specific team working on this though. I think its just Antonio as the programmer. It's not that Blender's entire team has shifted towards 2d development. This is just a project this particular team of artists and programmer have been working on for a while now.

Lo malo es que piensan que todo lo hace una sola "compañía". Lo expliqué mil veces, Grease Pencil es un producto prácticamente llevado adelante independientemente por gente con mucha pasión. Los que desarrollaban el Game Engine no tienen ni idea de Grease Pencil y vice-versa.

Pasa que como dice Pablo han explicado infinidad de veces como funciona el sistema de trabajo en Blender (casi todos los lunes en los lives de Blender Today y Blender Hoy que luego quedan siempre grabados para ser vistos por cualquiera que busque información sobre el programa y sus novedades, y hasta en la web oficial y en el de developers hay algunas explicaciones sobre lo mismo). Los que eligen no buscar información sea por pereza o porque no tienen tiempo o por el motivo que sea nunca van a enterarse porque definitivamente eligen no enterarse por lo que no importa cuántos videos se suban. Tampoco voy a exagerar tanto jajaja, en realidad con cada vídeo nuevo donde se vuelven a explicar ciertas cosas que se explicaron en algún otro momento sirven porque siempre hay gente nueva también que aparece. Suele ser así con todas las cosas aún en esta modernidad en donde la información está al alcance de cualquiera pero pocos se avivan de usarla sabiamente.

These features should be available on Blender 2.83 (expected in May 2020)

I read a post on reddit where Autodesk walked into a meeting for a large corp client to get another round of licensing for their products and said they were looking at Eevee as the benchmark.

God used Blender to create the universe, quite possibly.

All it needs is some DAW functionality.

It is out of sync, but still amazing regardless.

i wouldn't even bother with it if it was separate software. main advantage to it over other animation software is its integration with 3d, imo.

I think the fact that it's so integrated with blender is what gives it as much power as it has. It wouldn't be the same without all the 3d power of blender behind it to support it.

But if it happens it will lose the point of real difference and innovation of grease pencil. For a pure 2d thing there's opentoonz. But hey, this is libre software, I believe anyone can build a grease pencil as principal tool branch. Like the B for Artists.

@@jefflhama no no I mean Blender will still have it but, imagine a simple separate software that basically Blender only without it's 3d stuff just grease pencil with some 3d power. It could attract more 2d artist if it's promoted as a 2d animation software (not a powerful 3d general superior software) imho

@@dommafia true but still it's too powerful. I've ever used Blender for a 2d animation assignment and my friends couldn't believe that. Because in an artist point of view it's like killing a mosquito with an atom bomb, it's kind of too much. (Which is a mission done well but pretty unbelievable)

Just go to the blogpost and read the credits! That should get you on the right path. P.S. I'm pretty sure you can call "dog people" as "furries" instead, since that's shorter, more catchy, and is practically the same thing anyways. :D
