Correct , The Salcombe / Kingsbridge water is a Ria not an estuary ( no river feeds it ) ….but it is often called one ! ( esp by estate agents and the holiday letting companies and the tourist board 😳) ! Horse mackerel are a delicacy in Japan , there good to eat even when not raw 👊

Finally some perfect weather for you, just need the mackerel shoals to arrive. Been researching moorings for similar size boat as yours, but Lincombe is a premium price with parking and tender space. Perhaps you have a ball park figure what other options there are and locations. It seems like you need to have A level maths to work out some of the charging structures. Kingsbridge is great but from what I recall, a huge waiting list and dries out 1 1/2 hrs either side of high. PM me if you can but not sure if you can on RU-vid. Thankyou. You have an excellent channel for local Anglers.😀

Thanks Robin, no PM on RU-vid (as far as I know). Moorings are not that easy to come by here and there is a long waiting list for harbour moorings. There are private moorings, Lincombe being one, but they are a good deal more expensive than the harbour moorings. Swinging moorings are cheaper, with a shorter waiting list but you need a tender to get out to them. Kingsbridge pontoon has two and a half hours either side of high water and a bit more when you’re familiar with the conditions if you want to push it. The pricing structure is a bit of a minefield, depends on the mooring, boat size and engine horsepower but £500-600 is a ballpark on the pontoon. Best of luck finding somewhere. 👍

@@fishingsalcombe Ah, that's really useful info thankyou and the pontoon is a bargain compared to private. I think it will be a case of getting a swinging mooring for now and pay the application deposit for the pontoon and get my name on the waiting list, which I heard mention of 4 years but could be longer and only time will tell. Continue from the shore for now then which is fairly hard work over the past couple of months. As you say bait is an issue in this area and without good bait things are really hard going. I'm looking forward to your next excursion. 🐟

Great vid as always, every day is a school day in your thoughts about the scarce fish. If you dont mind me asking how do you find railblaza rod rests. Thanks

Cheers Paul! I like the railblazas. The fixed mount ones are very good,, personally, I wouldn’t trust any rail mounted rod rest unless the reel was set with the lightest of drag. I only use my rail mounted starport for a cup holder. 👍

How long does it take you to get out to sea?
@fishingsalcombe
@fishingsalcombe 3 месяца назад
For the furthest marks that I go to it’s 20-30 minutes from Salcombe Bar depending on the sea conditions. I’m insured to the 12 mile limit and I don’t usually go up or down the coast too much so the furthest I travel at 18-22 knots is the 20-30 minute time frame. 👍

Off on a wrecking trip from Salcombe on Monday, trying for pollack ling and cod, hoping the forecast stays good, light 12mph North Westerly bit of chop but not much swell, fingers crossed for some doubles to hit the deck.
