I brush my mackerel with Tia-Maria and then put sea salt & Pepper and a 15 min light smoke with whisky soaked oak shavings. Gives you sweet & smoke taste all in the same mouthful.
😊Very enjoyable and thanks for the preparation and cooking element! The bone removal was amazing and will be my " go to" from now onwards. Bones in cooked fish put some people off, so this revolves the issue. Nice one!
Really enjoying the videos keep them coming. 👍 been visiting Salcombe all my life and always enjoyed getting out fishing. Usually head out over the Bar and fish where you have been trying for mackerel. How far out is the wreck you fished? Heading down in a few weeks would be good to try and catch some more species and the bigger fish.
Glad you are enjoying the videos! That wreck is a fair way out because bait fish have been scarce so to target bigger fish it’s been necessary to travel further to get to wrecks where there are year round resident pouting. Mackerel are now arriving closer inshore so the bigger fish will follow them and the closer wrecks and reefs will start to fish better. Good luck for your visit down here! 👍🎣
Again a most entertaining video. Inspite of the fact that i just have eaten a steak, the sight of those fantastic mackerel made me hungry again 😂. All off that thanks to the ladies 👍 that caught these fish. Absolutely amazing to see those dolphins rond your boat. You are a lucky man, in more than one way. Greetz from Stipo from Holland
I enjoy your fishing trips as I live locally to you, but only manage a bit of shore fishing. It would be nice if you mentioned how you prepare and cook the fish you keep? Just a few tasty little snippets?? You obviously enjoy what you do and I look forward to some more video.
Thanks Andrew, I’ll give that some thought. I have a short section about preparing mackerel on this video if you’re interested, starting from about 34 minutes in: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GCUEpLH_ASs.htmlsi=ysyLCa_doed5nrNo
Morning Rob. I expect you are out on the water right now as lovely conditions this weekend apart from the odd shower today. Can you tell me the difference between Kingsbridge and Salcombe tide times ? I looked online but estimations varied by over 1/2 hr ! Just got a local 14' 3" fishing boat with a cathedral hull and 20hp Honda - hopefully ok up to a couple of miles out on wrecks and reefs in calm conditions. The plan is start on the close in features like the Soudan. All the best. 😅Thankyou R.
Morning Robin, I’m away this weekend otherwise I would have been out! Tidal predictions for Salcombe are accurate. The difference between Salcombe and Kingsbridge has variable factors involved, neaps or springs, the amount of fresh water running, wind direction etc. If you’re going out or returning on a rising tide it’s less of an issue but if the tide is dropping you don’t want to end up on the mud! If you use the Salcombe times and use the window of 3 hours before high tide to 2.5hours after there will always be enough water in the channel with a bit of spare time just in case. Tight lines🎣🎣
offshore, small boat, alone, sketchy weather, no lifejacket!! If you can afford a boat like that you can afford 100 quid for a decent lifejacket.... daft!
Happy to engage in reasoned debate so please watch this and get back to me: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TeY6514pKQ0.htmlsi=5pqCXLQr6lwRi1pn
Great video again and lovely coloured wrasse,we have been experiencing some great mackerel fishing along the south wales coast we don't usually get them so far up in the Bristol channel but the water is crystal clear👍
As usual very nice video to watch and somebody already replied that a nice sized bass outruns 3 extra mini tuna😊. Thanks for the video, o i almost forgot, nice bag of summer species, topped off with a brace of beautyful wassen. Greetz from Stipo from Holland
Nice session rob. Varied species and those wrasse are very pretty fish. Oh and basil the bass didn’t want to come to dinner this time and decided he’s off lol 😊
I have a Penn fathom 15, with a level wind, star drag, love it that much just bought another one, rinse and wipe after every trip, very smooth, just bought a 12 to 20lb uglystik yak rod, for the boat, not for a yak, will be interesting to see how it goes, I enjoy the videos BTW
What a difference getting offshore makes 😀 Been hard going from the shore from lots of marks, nothing of any size. There must have been 8 Warriors moored on the Pontoon 12 o'clock today, shows what a great allrounder boat they must be. Keep it up, as it looks like you are on a roll with that range of species close in. 🐟
I mention this in the video so here’s a link to another video where I show how I dispatch and fillet mackerel. If you want to take a look, this section starts at around 34 minutes in: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GCUEpLH_ASs.htmlsi=na79_yfBC5GpC6YE
Discretion definitely the better part of valour! Frustrating for you but the wise option, plus 3 very decent Pollack to make it a worthwhile effort. Lazy lures good looking product and reasonable price. I'm out 5.30 tomorrow morning trying something very similar - hopefully without the wind fingers crossed.
The thing about GoPro cameras or action cameras in general is that they make the sea state look calmer than it is. Very true words about what conditions are acceptable - it's a personal call, you your boat and your experience. So true. 👍
