on the 27th sept i caught my first ever hen salmon on the fly after loosing one in the same pool a few days before, very fresh fish , the next day i caught a big red cock fish in the same pool on the same lie , same self designed fly. it was on my local small spate burn and the water levels were pretty low . our club president said that it was probably a pair of fish teamed up for spawning . i got my third ever salmon on the fly on the second last day of the season . all in , for a tiny spate water i did not badly for a novice , watching videos like yours really helps my confidence , very nice day you had , just shows you the water being lower than ideal should not put us off ! tight lines
I am loving this video, other fishing videos I have seen cut the scene to when they have already hooked the fish which really spoils it. I love that you film the whole process, its as if I'm out fishing without fishing. Thank you so much for producing this, it's fabulous video.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video. I try to make all my videos like that to show the whole fishing experience. At least I caught sum fish in this video. Plenty of Blanks before this one.
Well done Iain, 2 salmon (might have been 4!!) and 2 trout to try out the new rod, i've got a few airflo rods myself, good value and decent quality too. It's always good to hear your delight and chuckling when you catch a fish. More tight lines soon i hope, cheers Peter.
excellent mate, 1st one was a nice cock fish and safely returned, 2nd one was playing games with you but you got her and again you safely returned her, a credit to you bud, told you they like my flies and you have them all, well not quite i still have 10 here for you, my specials , nip round and get them anytime, two salmon in one day great video mate well done.
Thanks Vince. Glad you liked the video. Specials!! I like the sound of them. Bet they will be extra lucky. I will pop round next time I'm near by. Your flies do work well its true
Brilliant stuff. You’ve stuck at it this year, so two salmon in one day is well deserved! Thanks for sharing, need to get out there after seeing this! What breaking strain of line are you using on the smaller rod?
Well done Iain, some fine angling skills. On the two salmon you caught were you retrieving at all or just fishing on the swing. May i ask what length of leader were you using catching the two salmon and what distance between dropper and point fly please. ps yes frustrating when it's on then line goes light, hits the guts. Thanks Iain.
Thanks. No both fish took as the fly was fishing down in the stream. I got one last year when I retrieved. Seemed to make a difference then. Just your luck I guess. My leader was about 10 ft and the fly was about half way up the line. I just usually pull out two arms lengths of line. Thats with a floating line. I guess your leader could be shorter if a full sinking line but I dont often fish that. Generally I wouldnt fish a leader longer than my rod when salmon fishing.
Sure I know what you mean.. saw that when I watched the videos back. Should have just waited till the line went tight. Hard to be patient with all the excitement. cheers
To be honest Any part of the river should have salmon in it by now. Maybe the upper bits slightly more Fish. Its more about the clarity and height of the water. If the water is really dirty its hard to catch the fish. Just your luck though mate.
