Actually, it's typical medieval architecture to make the base skinnier than the second floor, so that map is not cartoonish in that aspect. The cities were getting really dense, especially the walled ones, and people needed space to walk while at the same time constructing buildings everywhere, so they started building wider second floors in order to make decently sized gaps between the buildings. I still have to agree, the buildings are extremely skinny and tall, they remind of skyscrapers.

In my opinion, ne of the most tragic things about the World Wars (1 and 2) are all the historical buildings that were destroyed across Europe, especially the castles.

Nerdy little sidefact: half-timbered houses actually became wider the higher they were built. This way the heads of the wood beams are protected from the rain by the upper floor. The Warhammer houses are therefore not that bad of a choice. And yeah... nice siege battle :P

1:24 actually that IS what medieval townhouses looked like in London. They were narrower at the base than at the top so they could get more out of the area while still fitting the streets in between them. They are the medieval equivalent of highrises

The Bohemian general is JAN ZIZKA, which has NEVER EVER LOST A SINGLE BATTLE EVEN WHEN HE WENT BLIND and in most cases his army was outnumbered, under equipped and undertrained. He even designed the weapon for the Husseits. He is the first man to use Artillery on a battlefield (before that, arti was only for sieges) and he modified weapons to create the Pistala (became the pistole) and the howitzer. He also modified wagons and added armed men in it which became the medieval version of the tank.

The gunners, or 'píšťalníci' in czech actually means a flutist/flautist. They have been called like this because the gun they are using kind of resembles a flute. Also from the czech word 'píšťala' came into existence an international word for pistol. Píšťala -> pistola/pistolet -> pistol. You can kinda grasp the pronunciation from this @Pixelated Apollo .)

Definitely would love to see more siege battles like this. I don't mind the buildings, I definitely understand they don't have time nor the resources to design totally new buildings and this gives a much more medieval feel than the base game.

Hey Pixie, since there are navies now, why don't you do a city assault, combined land see attack. The defenders could have a combined land see force, but i think the battle would be more interesting if the defenders had no navie. Attack like that on Constantinople would be epic. Who's with me?

but you are aware of the fact that medieval buildings (n cities) actually got wider the higher they where because you only had to pay for the ground you build on, so they payed for a small area of ground but made it larger on the upper levels

just some info: Jan Žižka wasnt a King, he was one of the leaders of the Hussite revolution (really dont know how its called in english, in czech its husité). He was a noble, but he didnt have a lot of power. The revolution was pretty much a religious movement (they wanted the church to not have so much possesion, they also wanten to take both wine and "bread" in church). There were even some crusades declared on them, some sources say that they routed a giant army just by singing their song called Ktož jsú boží bojovníci. Anyway, Jan Žižka lost one eye and later he even lost the other eye. After his death, the movement was lead by Prokop Holý and it faded away.

I really love how they added the Bohemian faction. It's cool to see Jan Žižka and well known coats of arms in game like this. I love your video Apollo but still I'm patriot so I wish Bohemian win :D

jan zizka was noted for turning a peasant mob into an effective resistance force against all sorts of enemies. using unconventional tactics like barricading positions and mob swarming, he epitomized the use of low-level weaponry through simple tactics.

The top floors of medieval building were larger it is a space-saving construction trick called "Jettying" if I spelled it correctly. It is very simple you lay the beams for the second floor across so that they hang over the sides giving you more floor space while using less street space for your footer and you actually lose no structural integrity.

The buildings are fairly realistic(see many earlier comments). I figured out why I'm not crazy about them: they need to fit in the proscribed boundaries of the game. A medieval town or city would have them right against one another, the streets would be narrow, and you wouldn't see the streets unless you were directly above them. I think the modders did the best they could. I do think the look great as the close backdrop in street battles. Jan Zizka was a general.

Tak vždycky, když se na internetu objeví něco od známějšího zahraničního youtubera a má to v sobě Česko, ihned se nás tam hromada sletí, nicméně já sám už Pixieho sleduju víc jak půl roku. :) Jinak jsem celkem zklamanej, že se klukům modařům z 1212 týmu ty český názvy nepovedlo úplně importovat do herního fontu. To já jsem jim totiž všechny tyhle Píšťalníky, Psohlavce a Zatracený doporučil. Ty původní názvy jako třeba Hussite Shooters a Pacholek Spearmen se nedaly vydržet. :D

Hey pixie during medieval period the bottom of a house was much smaller than the top and the fact is that at this period there was a tax and they had to pay only the the surface of the ground level of their house. So they had to build a small ground level to pay less taxes and they made bigger surface for the top level to gain some places. That's why in France medieval period's houses were with this strange architecture. :)

Jan Žižka z Trocnova is a general of hussites rebels(not a king), Žižka invented the wagon wall, so have the army take the walls everywhere, the Knights did not have when the roof of a wall full of makin' a push Pikemen no chance, according to the records of that time supposedly Hussite peasant army prevailed over the more German knights that we sang "Ktož sú boží bojovníci (We are a Warriors of god)"

@Pixilated Apollo in medieval days they would build buildings smaller at the bottom because they decided later on after building the building that they wanted a second floor and for reasons of showing off they would make the rooms bigger then the rooms on the floor below

they did a pretty good Job at making the Houses historically accurate. they are wider further up because back then they only paid for the ground so they paid for the fundament and than build the house wider so they could use as much space as possible ( i love in germany in 500 year old Fachwerkhaus and you can See this through out the City) i dont know if this makes sence

houses actually took that shape since they calculated the taxes deending on the land size of your house so people to gain space made the stages biger than the previous one

Actually, architecturaly speaking, it is quite accurate. Property taxes were calculated on the amount of ground surface taken by the house or building, so people had a tendency of building narrow flooring and then build wider rooms in the upper floors ! :D

Is it me, or have they improved on the lag? BTW, the buildings look great! A bit more medieval-looking. The BBC have also announced a NEW series of Time Commanders that will be utilizing the Total War engine. I watched an advert including footage of Napoleon TW - one of my favourites! :) Previous series were inspired by the original Rome TW.

well actually in England it was common to have small bases for houses, because you would pay taxes on the size of the base of your house not the overall size

Really a great battle with great comments also. The buildings were fine for me, didn't bother me at all. Like you said during battle you are paying attention to the troops more so than buildings. I'm going to check this Mod out, were you using any other Mods with this one?
