I use to love the vanilla shake. I can still taste it. Believe it or not, I still have the Great Shakes brown shaker container. It's chocolate brown with a light brown top. General Foods, do us 60's kids a favor, and make this again. Even if it's just temporary, like Jello 1-2-3. But make sure it's the original flavors. We won't accept anything different.
I remember these. I used to buy them all the time ... well, my mom did. And then they stopped making them for some reason. I started having packets of Instant Breakfast in the great shakes shaker in the morning, and I swear the shaking up the IB make it take a lot better, like a shake. When I bought them they had Chocolate, Chocolate Malt ( my favorite ), Vanilla, Strawberry, Coffee and Orange ( the only flavor I could not stand ). I always wondered why they stopped making these, they were really good ... great shakes. I missed the so much.
I saw the Great Shakes commercials in 1967 when I was 9 and 10. They have stuck in my head sine 1967. The commercials had great entertainment value; i.e., the commercials could have been combined into a video 📹 titled "Drinking Milkshakes at the Beach." The theme songs 🎵 of the commercials sound like the Beach Boys 👦 or Jan and Dean.
Hahahaham after they stopped making Great Shakes, I kept the shaker and used to use it to make the Instant Breakfast that I drank in the morning before school taste more like a milkshake. Why did they ever stop making these - I think a lot of people liked them.
The schoolyard debate at the time was whether the lyrics were , "Anyone can be a soda fountain now ..." or, "any butt can be a soda fountain now ...". Once you hear "butt" you cannot unhear it.
I loved the vanilla ones too and I have moved my brown shaker around with me all over the country since I left home in 74! I wish they would bring those back...my old ass would love to have one again!
I woke up this morning and thought of this commercial for some reason ... and still remembered every word. Very effective ad if we remember it so clearly almost 60 years later!
