While diving of the coast of Tofo, Mozambique, we were approached by a great white shark that circled us confidently. It checked us out up close for a few times before moving on. The young shark was relaxed and curious but careful.
It apears to be the first ever footage of a great white shark in Mozambique! Since this type of shark is endangered and isn't usually found this far north it was the surprise of a lifetime!

Me and my mate went diving yesterday in Perth WA and came across a great white. I was absolutely terrified just by the presence of the thing. It wasn’t aggressive at all, just checking us out for a few seconds then took off into the distance but it was enough to get my heart racing and breathing really fast. Such an exhilarating experience I’ve never had before.

These people had almost no chance of being attacked, the shark was simply curious. If they had gone totally still it might of got the courage to come in closer and had a small nip to see what they were. But it wasn't behaving aggressively, it was slow and casual and importantly let them see it clearly. If it really wanted to attack it would of moved out of sight and looked for an angle of attack, that's how they hunt.

@thewr0ngchild
@thewr0ngchild 2 года назад
Both are stunning, powerful animals too!. I love sharks so much. Their behaviour shows signs of intelligence perhaps not shared by some other fish. Sharks are after all, fish, and fish are NOT stupid as humans first thought. Sharks are one of the ocean's most important creatures too. They prey on fish and other marine life that would otherwise overpopulate, and damage ecosystems. Sharks are the lone wolves of the sea. They are almost 'dog-like' in how they behave, and sharks in captivity have shown a much greater mental capacity than anyone first thought. Protecting sharks is vital, many species are now sadly endangered due to overfishing and trawling.

I was swimming and enjoying the water sports. I was with my ex wife son daughter and daughters boyfriend about 10yrs ago. We were in a bay near Murcia Spain it was in the morning. We all decided to have a ride on a Banana boat. There was a Spanish couple who didn't speak English. Off we go the owner trying to tip us all off all part of the fun. He was racing around twisting and turning. He managed to dump us all off about 4 times. Then again we were all off again while we climbed back on the engine stopped on the boat. We were all set to go again but the engine would not start. Myself being the heaviest person on the Banana was positioned on the back. I started humming the domdom domdom like the music in the Jaws films. Banging the banana with my feet saying look fin shark. Everyone was laughing and playing along even the Spanish couple. Engine eventually started and off we go back to the beach. Later that evening we were heading into a plaza near to our apartment. I popped into the little tobacco shop I picked up a local news paper. There was a photo of a Great White it was sighted that very afternoon.off the very beach we had been Banana boating off that very morning.

@@keithbolger6760 yeah I've read that the last known fatal shark attacks in Europe were in the Med, in Italy I think, a long long time ago. It's definitely a stomping ground, or used to be. I hear the Med is pretty depleted of fish these days with so many millions of people using it on both sides (Africa and Europe). There have been sightings along France's other coast too, Bay of Biscay. Somehow never been spotted along Portugal's coast and there are no recorded attacks either. Lots of activity further out west in the Azores though, a friend of mine is a diving instructor there and he's had a pretty intense encounter with a massive Mako (I've seen photos, it was fucking huge). He was very curious about you , you looking weird making weird bubble & weird noise , in addition to emits electric currents signifying to the shark that you are under stress, therefore potentially sick or in difficulty, which makes it really interrested because it may be its next meal without forcing too much. If, on the contrary, you are happy to see him, he will also feel it, they have a fully upgraded natural radar in their nose. He has an adora so fine that he can smell a drop of blood in 1 million cubic meters of water . Sharks are one the Kings of the Oceans .

What's the water temp like there? No hoods, I'm guessing it's probably not that bad. You guys wearing 3mm suits? Also, out of curiosity, what was your depth when this meeting happened?

Wow. Dove my whole long life and never saw that. And not sure if I want too. Have had passes like that from tigers and great hammerheads. But never a great white. I suppose were it in hunting mode they would have never seen it.

People don't understand how weird it is for the shark to see one of us in the ocean. We don't look, sound, smell, act, or taste like anything they've encountered before. It is only normal for them to be curious.
