What a way to remember that fishing trip....a group of friends having fun and then they meet a great white...what a trip and what a time to remember...that's what life is all about
Whatever... that youtuber ybs Brodie lives in Australia and his whole channel is him in the ocean diving and boating, and he said he’s never seen a white shark
The reason is that the great white population of the North Atlantic are a bit more mysterious than the great white populations you find around Australia, South Africa and California. They're rarely encountered by comparison, but their numbers have started to increase with the rise in grey seal numbers. The state of Maine, the most Northeastern state, had its first recorded fatal great white attack back in 2020.
My great grandfather was a fisherman out here in California for many years. He never saw a great white once, even in his tiny little fishing boats. You'd be surprised at how little you see them. Doesn't mean they aren't there, but it's a testament to how good they are at hiding. And yes, even with the knowledge of them being there, seeing an 18 foot long fish that can tear you in half is going to startle people when they see it for the first time.
Casey Flentye Yes but if you go in the ocean your chances of encountering one just went up by like 1,000,000,000% compared to standing in your own home were the chances of seeing one Is only possible on your TV
All I picture in my mind is the scene from Jaws where Chief Brody is throwing chum in the water and then he turns and sees the shark for the first time... Slowly backing away still puffing his cigarette lol
I heard no mentions of surprise by the fisherman. Just recounts of exhilaration and excitement that they had a close-call with an apex predator. They all looked quite overjoyed about the whole thing. And as someone born and raised on the water in Jersey, this particular encounter is a pretty rare thing. Ultimately, it is the definition of a surprise. If these guys tried to replicate this again, they’d be highly unsuccessful.
Fisherman: We've been fishing together for fifteen years, and it was the best moment, probably, we'll ever have on the water. Shark: that could've gone either way. You're just lucky you had some treats nearby.
This is how I felt when a gray whale and her calf came up to the boat I was in in Cabo San Lucas literally 30ft away so peaceful and tranquil.. Man life on earth would have been so cool to see before human just wrecked the ecosystem…
I gotta hand it to these fishermen for respecting and admiring the animal instead of fearing or resenting it. Of course, the media can't resist the chance to stir up people's emotions, though.
I live in jersey and actually just came back from kayaking, I will never swim in the ocean ever since hurricane Sandy as all sorts of stuff is under that water, if and when your out there and you think you seen something or felt a bump it ain’t a coincidence, it’s something
Can you imagine this dude being your captain on the boat headed to Omaha beach while everyone else is throwing up knowing they are about to die he’s just like well we are here not much we can do just enjoy the moment
MUST BEEN A FASCINATING AND SCARY EXPERIENCE AT THE SAME TIME. I SAW A GREAT WHITE IN TAMPA BAY BY THE. BRIDGE. IT JUMPED OUT OF THE WATER ATE A SEA GULL. I WAS AMAZED THINKING DIDN'T KNOW GREAT WHITES CAME IN SO CLOSE TO LAND THEIR MOSTLY IN OPEN WATERS OUT IN THE GULF NOT THE BAY. AMAZING SITE TO SEE ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE.
Although they are big & scary, sharks aren’t monsters. Just animals trying to survive just like the rest of us. And this world is much more interesting with them in it. So kudos to the fishermen for not harming it.
"Just enjoy the moment ..." ... I'm agree ! What a chance .. One day in the Mediterranean Sea, I found myself close to a sperm whale and I just enjoy the moment too ! ✌🇫🇷
I did alot of scuba diving off New York and new Jersey. While decompressing on the anchor line with a bag of speared fish, My mind would sometimes play tricks wondering if a big shark was going to swoop in. I'm glad one never did.
