I've literally had that happen to three of my Eflite airplanes with a similar prop collet attachment under extreme aerobatic maneuvers, it's not a great design but I've remedied the problem by adding blue toctite to the motor shaft before the prop collet installation and tightening.

Just wanted to say that was good craftsmanship. Nice work. You do not give yourself enough credit for the pilot that you are.

I gotta similar save on my channel when I blew the fan blades off my jet. True story. I shot 6 fan blades right out of the exhaust. Thankfully I had enough height to get the baby down safe. And if that wasn't enough, I also filmed a SECOND edf explosion when I strapped a 64mm edf on 4s to the back of an FMS superez. Saved that beast, too! Both filmed. So it DEFINITELY happened.

Nice save bringing it home without the prop. That forward tumble from stall is ready and fun with the Flex RV8 and Mamba. I'm still waiting to see you snap roll on the horizontal instead of on the vertical.

It was not the maneuver. It was due to the prop being slightly out of balance and the prop shaft with the clamp down design will "walk" it's way off the motor shaft. So good to check prop nut for tightness on the first flight of course but then a few flights later make sure nut is snug. A good thing to do is of course balance the props very good but also put a little finger nail polish inside the prop collet and the motor shaft. Same idea as loctite. Don't use loctite it cannot be removed easy. Fingernail polish you simply put a bit of fingernail polish remover on a q tip and put it around the collet and shaft. Few seconds the dry fingernail polish is soft and the prop adapter will slide off. But it won't slide off ever while flying. Just a few dabs of fingernail polish on the motor shaft and inside the prop adapter on the collet end then slide it on and tighten prop as normal. Wait overnight then fly and no more lost props mid air!

Good save Nate. All your experience has finally came into fruition right there when it was needed most. If that would of been a beginner pilot or maybe even a novice pilot that wouldn't of ended the way it did.

I think the maneuver is the Lomcovak

Ironically my v.1 Cirrus did the same thing yesterday when I was doing a big half Cuban 8. I was able to glide it down to the ground and land on the wheels. The prop shot off a ways from the plane. I'll need to take more care of keeping that tightened up.

😑 my cherokee did the same thing a week ago with its maiden attempt. I was taking off perfectly fine then you saw my prop go to the right as i started to go left

That's funny that happened to you. The Brazilian "Esquadrilha da Fumaça" (Smoke Squadron ) were forced to stop with that same maneuver ( Lancevak ) for awhile because the prop shaft on the Tucanos were breaking.
