Amuro gets his car stuck in some mud. Hilarity ensues. To avoid future confusion: This is the dub from the VHS tapes. Not the dub for the series on Toonami.
Fun fact the Gundam Origins retcons this as part of his disguise. Saying he has eyes that are extremely sensitive to a specific type of light and the glasses on the mask helps him deal with it
this is what amuro should've said as leaving "oh by the way im the guy in the white mobile suit that always gets in your way and fucks up your plans...bye" Char: -.- , "lalah get the rocket launcher from the backseat please"
@@sweetchilledgames7887The scene is on Side 6, which is a neutral colony and requires Federation and Zeon visitors to disable all their weapons to be allowed entry.
@@SharpieSkunk note you said that EFSF and Principality Of Zeon soldiers had to neutralize their weapons. I said he would've chased Amuro down and strangled him
Awkward dub aside, this is unironically a brilliant scene. The first time the protagonist personally meets the antagonist he's been fighting so hard but they just politely interact like normal human beings, Char even helping Amuro get his car out of the mud, despite being on opposite sides of the war. It reminds Amuro (and the viewers) we're all just people at the end of the day and makes you wonder if there is any point to all the killing that's been going on.
That's sort of the point to most of the Gundam story in the UC, you have people like any others in a war driven by governments or movements that traps other wise peaceful people who just want to live their lives. It's a tragedy of war and the horrors of man that he repeatedly wrought on himself.

it also foreshadows amuro's newtype powers. amuro never knew what char looked like before this yet he perfectly guessed that it was char as soon as he saw him
Was this cut from the aired series or something? I've watched MS:G like once a year since forever and don't remember him and Char hanging out like this, they never shared the same space which wasn't a battlefield no? I might be outing myself as a dummy but then again there's been different airings with different dubs and stuff too. If I'm right and this scene was cut, where did it belong? I actually heard there's alot of this kinda stuff which never made it to air and I wish MS:G were more meandering like this instead of the cheese-ball made-for-western-dumb-dumb stuff we got

@@Caninehandler this wasn't cut. this is from the original series
William Signs Hating each other, man, they are like best drinking buddies together. You must have got it all wrong. The Gryps Conflict was started cause Amuro didn't cleaned up the ash trays, with the Titans cutting his allowance in half. Not taking this shit, Amuro called his BFF Bright like "What isss thiss shitt, they've took my liquor, Bright, my liquor." And the 2nd Zeon war was just Char misplacing his space colonies. What are you smoking, man?
SpookyMillipede he knew why do you think Amuro got splashed Xd he wanted to look into his enemies eyes ,and besides he himself is a bit of a Amuro fan XDD since thats his arch nemesis
he defiantly knew, but they were also in that war-free zone so they wouldnt fight anyway. In truth, the soldiers in Zeon and the Federderation have nothing to hate eachother over when they arn't fighting. like the time the zeon put bombs on the gundam, watched white base remove ALL of them, then they drove up to them and congratulated them and showed them respect
Webemperor1 yea but the Gundam wars are gundam wars so they need to use mecha's to battle i was like fighting an un armed man plus one of the strategic wars is to destroy the mecha's as pilots without them are considered usseless
Lmao what’s so funny about this scene is the fact that even though they don’t “know” each other they weren’t more hostile considering that one is part of the Earth Federation and the other is part of Zeon. It’s like a Nazi and a British officer coming across each other on the road during WW2. I guess it can just boil down to the fact that Amuro is only 16 and that Char usually likes to fight in a mobile suit. Also I doubt Char would give a 16 year old Federation soldier a hard time as they were most likely dragged into the war. That’s if he didn’t know who Amuro was.
@@synysterpain Yeah Char even remarked at how "that Mobile Suit pilot has unbelievable accuracy with the beam rifle" before he knew the pilot was teenager Amuro
They are on side six here, I think. I remember for sure that it's neutral, so fighting there would probably have some bad consequences for everyone involved.
Even if Char knew Amuro is the Rx78 pilot, he wouldn't have done Amuro any harm as he respects the Gundam pilot too much. His respect for Amuro is evident later when he leaked the psychoframe data in 0093 so EFSF can construct nu Gundam, which is technically on par with Sazabi.
*begins watching* Well, I can see how this would be funny, but not quite seeing the "best scene ever" stuff yet- *Char gets out of car* ...wut *dies of laughter*
I really wish that the meeting in Char's Counterattack had been here, on Side 6, rather than on Side 1. Would have been a neat narrative parallel to have Amuro and Char see each other face to face for the last time, in the place where they first met in person. Cameron Bloom is even in both settings, would have been neat.
Fun fact: "Shahsnable" is actually Char's name for his penis. Regarding the dub itself, I like both Michael Lindsay and Steve Blum a lot, and I actually think Lindsay makes a pretty good Amuro tone-wise, but in this particular case, Michael Kopsa is basically a perfect Char, especially in later projects when he was more comfortable with the role. He gets across Char's charismatic, aristocrat-like bearing while also giving him that slight coldness that makes you not trust him. Still...why "Sha"...?
Because in Japan, when speaking English they don't pronounce "R"s at the end of words, much like in England and Australia. That's carried across to the official English pronounciation.
This is the first version of MSG I ever watched. The set of three tapes cost me something like $100 in 1999 at a Suncoast video store, which was one of the few places you could find anime at the time other than a few local comic book shops. I know the acting is pretty bad, but it's got a nostalgic feel for me and I actually like Steve Blum as Char.
this scene totally doesnt make sense a man wearing a zeon military uniform sees a man wearing an EF uniform and the two are at war and they talk to each other nicely
Gundam has always had odd naming conventions, which is why we have characters named Fraw Bow who are called the whole thing every time, or men like Ramba Ral whose name has no real reason to be that. It's the grim-darkness of the far future, people are in space colonies, nations are apparently no longer a thing, naming conventions get a wee bit fucked up
This is from the movies, not the show. They had different voice actors because the movies were released in America straight to VHS several years before the show was dubbed for Toonami. The guy doing the voice for Char is the same guy who did the voice for Tom from Toonami
For those who are confused why they aren’t fighting each other here’s how I see it: To start Amuro is constantly shown reluctant to actually engage in battle, even on do or die terms. Char is really a double agent and is only playing along till he can get his shot at revenge. All three people in this scene are budding newtypes, which often show a heightened sense of morality. Also IIRC this is a neutral zone. Thus nobody involved perceives this situation from a militaristic standpoint, nor are they actually sanctioned to.
I think they were worried about his name being dangerously close to the singer Charles Aznavour. When Del Rey published the novelization they kept the romanization "Cha" to avoid a potential lawsuit. Another little tidbit, Tomino was a big fan of Charles Aznavour and inspired Char/Cha
It's probably not that he can't drive a car, he's simply too rich to bother to get his own license. After all if you were wealthy enough to buy your own asteroid with gold bullion I doubt you would bother applying for a civilian driver's license.
At first didn't realize their dialogues are a lot different than the original series; probably the movies has some similar concepts to the re-telling of Evangelion.
Holy schnikeys I missed that eppisode and this epic scene!!!!! I read an old website that says Char doesn't know how to drive a car. I forgot to mention I LOLed hard!!!!
He auditions like everyone else and gets picked for roles. Not out of bias but the fact that he can play the required role properly (director's opinion). Plus, he's got bills to pay like the rest of us. That and he's DAMN GOOD!! His anime roles don't allow him to truly utilize his vocal range. Just wikipedia him and see his older roles.
Can somebody give me a link to download this series in a good quality, plz? It have been months since I became really intersted in Gundam's old series...
Yes I know that but is this even his? I can easily recognize his voice as I always hear him in most Gundam shows. Also, Is that even Michael Kopsa's voice for Char?
