Not first encounter... May as well have been! Shiny Moltres & Articuno both secured in Pokemon Platinum! Killing 2 birds with 1 stream - absolutely crazy! What the heck! We got 2 roamers in a day, whilst single-hunting... Getting one is already crazy enough.

It's WILD - I always thought the 2-in-1 would happen spaced over a few hours at least 😂 Legit goals - we always wanted a 2-in-1! Now I want another. Hopefully we can do it again in Gen II - it's more possible than ever with the vast improvements.

Why is he killing them when they arent shiny? Do they respawn in this version?

Since there is more than 1 roamer, he checks all 3 before resetting. This process is faster when you don't have repeat encounters with birds you've already confirmed are not shiny, so that's why they are KO'd. Once one shiny has been found, the other two can be killed and respawned by defeating the Elite 4 + champ and then speaking to Professor Oak in Eterna City once more.

Exactly what Hawkeye said! I would also add that you can do this with all the legendaries in Plat onwards. By extension, it also applies to Mesprit & Cresselia as roaming Pokemon. Mesprit & the birds actually benefit from being KO'd prior to the hunt (it reduces text/reset times).
