Thanks so much for putting this up. This was one of my favorite recurring gags on the show, and really served to surrealistically separate this program from all others. A brilliant and underrated comedy.
Very CUTE!! Eva was so beautiful and adorable and Eddie Albert was so funny in this role. Perfect casting. I can't say enough good things about these two wonderful actors!!
I think the best part of the irony from this show is, how he drives a Lincoln, but needs a tractor. Just one of many. This show is as funny & fresh as it was in 1965.
When I Met (Pastor) Tom (Lester) @ the BURBANK AIRPORT MARRIOTT Back in 2009 I TOLD Him that My FAVORITE "Eb Dawson" Moment was When He was "DOO DOOING" the GREEN ACRES Theme Song and Then "Lip_Sanced" with EVA GABOR's "DAHLIN I LOVE YOU BUT GIVE ME PARK AVENUE" ! Thanks, kayne, for Sharing !
Eddie Albert joined the military after he had found success as an actor. In World War 2, he had saved several lives at the risk of his own. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was discharged a short year later so that he would be able to accept an officer position in the Naval Reserve. During the Battle of Tarawa, Albert earned a Bronze Star with Combat "V". He fought in the first wave of combat that lasted for three days. After most of the shooting was over, he was sent back to the site of the battle to salvage any equipment he could find. Because of coral reefs in the area, Marines weren't able to land directly on the beach and had to get off their boats 500 yards from shore. Enemy combatants started picking them off, and soon the waters were filled with over 100 wounded and many more dead. Albert disregarded his mission to grab equipment and began pulling marines to safety. He took 47 in total, and oversaw the rescue of 30 more.
Kevin Healey I love hearing stories like this. Elvis, Jimmy Stewart, and some other great actors who left their acting career, to serve our country. Don’t hear too many of those stories today. Thank you. I always liked Eddie Albert.
@@kritikitti3868 Sir, I disagree with you slightly. God has never left America. I'll try to explain. If anyone asks Jesus to come into his or heart, he will come. It will be felt immediately. But it will cease to continue if one does not stay with him. It's an "either or" situation.
An all time classic show. Not a single bad episode, honestly. I watched the reunion movie a few days ago here on RU-vid and, while it wasn't quite as good as the show, it was still nice to see the cast reprise their roles. They'll never be another Green Acres.
I forgot how funny this show was when they did the opening credits and the stars' reactions to them! Not every sitcom did this, and it sure made Green Acres stand out from the rest of the shows. Thanks to the folks who thought of this idea in the first place.
Who here remembers when the picture would go crazy and roll and you had to turn a little knob for it to stop?...hahahaha....I just saw it here and made me remember...fun times with old television sets...LOL
I continue to watch this and I constantly am amused and laugh out loud will never see this kind of Ingenuity comedy and genius ever again God I miss those days so much
Yeah, today is much better now they can burn down every town, steal everything in sight, and never spend a day in jail. And don't forget that reparations.
OMG, this show is in a class by itself and I can add nothing to the numerous compliments listed here, except to say this; enjoy this progenitor of the Bob Newhart show, the Newhart Show, the Simpsons, Friends and so many others. It would not have been possible without the talents of this wonderful compilation of writers, director and that INCREDIBLE cast; What a Blessing and What a Show!
@@jackkircher1755 I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE??? I thought I made that up! I always thought she should have said it only in her hillbilly voice with the accent on dar'lin (hillbilly for dah-ling).
@@luisreyes1963 Sometimes, just for fun, I impersonate both Morticia and Gomez for the Filmways sign-off. Morticia: C'est un presentation de Filmways. Gomez: Oooh Tish! More French!! More French!!
The 3 funniest fourth wall breaks to me are: the credits running away from Mr. Ziffel, the names on the breakfast items & the ones on Mr. Drucker's newspaper.
Yes, I remember it was on at 9 pm -- right after the Beverly Hillbillies. It was a great combo to watch in the evening before going to bed. (9:30 was my bedtime when I was a kid)
The cast looked like they had a lot of fun doing this show. They were probably in mourning when it was cancelled. TV was never the same again when shows like ''All In The Family'' started.
There was another one that featured Arnold watching tv at the beginning of an episode. When the program was over, the credits rolled on the screen, and he watched them. Then a lady’s voice came on when the Filmways logo would have come on, but instead it said “Finkways” and she said “this here’s been a Finkways presentation, y’all”
It was a very humorous show, quite clever and with touches of surreal comedy like the above--and this in an era where almost all sitcoms were terribly bland. My favorite from this clip is Mr. Ziffel (I loved that character) catches the credit titles zooming around behind him. I notice these sequences are all in chronological order. Thanks for compiling this!
In april 2021 we this kind of comedy more than ever. We will never see this kind of comedy ever again....BUT WE NEED THIS MORE THAN EVER. I was super lucky to have grown up in this time, god bless that show !!!!
The best opening song and most creative opening credits plus the beautiful Eva Gabor made this a can’t miss watching every week. Eddie Albert and the rest of the cast were great too.
The one with Eb mouthing Eva Gabor's "Darling I love you, but give me park avenue!" line was humorous. Still has me laughing after all these years! RIP Tom Lester (Eb Dawson) and all the cast members of Green Acres! My island in my Animal Crossing: New Horizons was named GreenAcres after this show to honor Tom Lester along with the many other Green Acres cast members who have sadly passed.
Oliver: Lisa, is Ebb back there? Lisa (knows where he is): No he isn't. Oliver: Do you know where he is? Lisa: Yes, I do. (walks away) and CBS cancelled this program because it was a rural comedy, no other reason. Shame on CBS!
The 70's were weird, but also, TV culture was changing. It was replaced by equally good but very different shows on CBS like _All in the Family._ However, _Gunsmoke_ lasted another four years. It's just that CBS was distancing themselves from "Hillbilly comedy" at the time. Which made sense to anyone who'd lived through the era. The times they were a changing.
I always enjoyed it when Lisa would get jealous over other women and Oliver would tease her about it and she just got madder! Eddie and Eva, we miss you.
This is awesome!!! Such a trippy show! I always find myself thinking of Lisa Douglas and the "executive producer" and "written by" hotcakes and there they are! I used to love this show as a kid but really began to appreciate it after I was in college in the late '70's where, after doing my necessary homework of course, I would do a few bong hits and absolutely crack up over this show. It was on weeknights in the Boston area back-to-back with Beverly Hillbillies at 9 and 9:30.
Green Acres was a classic and ahead of its time. I love the off the wall humour and I can't believe the last three seasons have only had a DVD release in the last 18 months. I love the episode with Mr Fred the horse, a brilliant Mr Ed spoof. I can't understand why it took so long for Seasons 4,5, and 6 to come out on DVD when crappy shows like The Brady Bunch were released in full years ago.
@@johnmunk5067 He played that peddler-guy in "Music Man." Did a good job in that musical with his opposite, Gloria Graham, (who also played Violet Bic in "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed.) W, 03/10/2021
Sets are generally made with a wall on the left, a wall on the right and a wall at the back. We, the TV or (or if a live sitcom) studio audience are sitting where the final fourth wall would be. Hence when addressing the camera or audience the performer is addressing the unseen fourth wall which is where the expression originates
This was a truly great TV show, I watched it with my Dad on TV in the UK, American comedy tv shows were so great then, slick and professional like this, I cant ever remember seeing these, thank you poster, it just goes to show how confident they all were on the love of the fans. How beautiful Mz Gabor was, I really only took notice when I was much much older and had kids of my own and being stupid just saw her as someone who was trying to stay good looking far beyond her years but I was of course quite wrong, a fantastic actor who could handle any role, I hope I can buy this show online
I always watch this when I have had an off day. Makes me laugh especially the last one.......well actually all of them make me laugh. Well not laugh, maybe snicker........NO laugh.
This is priceless....I never noticed this.....love this posting...thank you. @Larry Lee Moniz, you are right, this show is much more clever than they ever received credit!
According to the late Melody Patterson who guest starred on this show, the cast was wonderful, particularly Eva Gabor and Eddie Albert. However, she was amazed they used cue cards.
@@btqy I hated it when Lucy resorted to cue cards in the 1960s, it ruined the believability of the plot. You see their eyes looking past the actor they are speaking to.
@@AuroraFinesse-is9vg Yep, and just like her character looked older, er, umm, more mature than she was in real life. I"m working on a fanfic and guess who Buffy The Vampire Slayer's great great maternal paternal grand mother is.
Me too! It’s cool how although she was kinda b*tchy, and didn’t want to stay at first, she soon showed her charming side, and became much beloved by the townspeople of Hooterville, eventually fitting in with them more than Oliver ever did. Certainly one of the best female leads in a sitcom ever imho. 😁👍
Seems like Green acres were the kings of the fourth wall breaking.I knew they did it a little bit but I didn't realize it was that many times and I'm sure that's quite a few that were left out
When Donna Douglas (as Elly Mae Clampett) and Eva Gabor (as Lisa) did the Filmways sign-off, just for fun, I would do it imitating Mister Ed's voice at the end of his shows. More fun than hearing the standard announcer voice.
I’ve always loved these so much! Thanks for collecting them all together 😎 I also remember one where the names were written on a wall after some jewel thieves dumped their loot in the cereal bin 😂
It's strange that Oliver also saw the names in the 2nd clip, since he was usually oblivious to the credits that usually only Lisa saw. I'd never seen the "Carpentry by Alf & Ralph Monroe" credit before. Again this is another one where Oliver joined in the fun of seeing a credit. I'd also never seen that last clip w/ the credits at the end. By union rules, the Director credit appeared first rather than last, as the Director is always credited last at the beginning of a program or first at the end of a program, so the Director is always credited closest to the body of the program.
When I watched the series during its run, I did not realize the zaniness of this show and the gaslighting of Oliver. Now, I have great appreciation for the writers, cast and comedy.
One funny tv show, the Names; keep pop up few times on each show, got thanks them for all hard work never get much make then. Truly find this very interesting tv show. Oliver and Lisa . On Farm. God bless both them. Lots folks enjoy classic tv show not much junk on Tv now days.
Lots of the Flimways production staff, including executive producer Paul Henning, spent the 1950s working on "The Burns & Allen Show", which made a habit from the very beginning of breaking the fourth wall, to the point by the final seasons George was watching the other characters on the show from his TV in the den while the show was on. It wasn't a big step to go from there to the wall-breaking on the credits in "Green Acres".
