My favorite scene is where Oliver starts into one of these speeches without any music, and Lisa stop him and say, "You can't talk about seeds shoosting out of the ground until the fifer starts playing."
I truly love this show- this and The Addams Family are my favorite sitcoms from the 60s. But some of his speeches here are quite wild-we had to learn to shoot Indians, we had to create the Garment District in NYC- where immigrant labor was cheap and working conditions were often horrendous... that's the American way!
While looking at this, I realized that the reason his neighbors didn't like him is because he had a stereotypical view of farmers and country folks. He expected them to be the way he believed them to be rather than who they actually are.
