In Mexico we literally have only St Agus and "Kikuyo" in lawns, I treat kikuyo like Bermuda following BYD's advice and maaaaannn, my mom's house lawn looks fantastic ! Thanks BYD for sharing your knowledge.

Its amazing you touched on something I actually have been telling people for years. I love my lawn so I do cut it constantly. Maybe 3 times per week in some cases and when people ask me why I have explained to them that keeping it shorter actually works to make it a fuller thicker lawn plus causes it to work hard to repair itself and in turn keeps it greener. I am glad someone finally suggested this!

@@kennethbeeler1 well to be honest I meant shorter as in keeping it trimmed. I currently mow at a 3 but will grow it to 4 in the summer. Keeping it consistent as in my case 3 mows per week ensures that I never cut too much stalk off and force horizontal growth vs vertical growth.

1776 is equal to PGF COMPLETE. The better part of the Yard Mastery granular products is yield to volume and price. I get 3 - 5000sqft applications per bag with YM. All I’m using is the 1776 and Double Dark.

great video. I usually mow, then water for 2 to 3 minutes, then apply the fertilizer. then water another 5 to 7 minutes. works pretty good for my lawn here in California

Stepped up that video game I see! Lower that music bed volume though when your voice comes on; it’s slightly overbearing. That slow-mo action between steps, your picture-in-picture, and sudden onset’s of music at different intervals is really great! This video looks like a great template for your future vids. Actually just put down some flagship today. Yard Mastery seems to have a great program trying it out this year. I did the Scott's plan last year with great results but there is room for improvement

My YM Flagship should be here any day now... It's stormy/rainy weather here in Metro Atlanta area... I've seen your videos where you get your fertilizer put down just before a bad/heavy rain... 🤔Do you think that I can put my Flagship down, OR do you think that the saturated soil + the heavy rains will wash it away?? @@jr1001jr here are my thoughts 💭, the longer you wait to throw er down the longer you’ll wait for results. I don’t recommend putting down during heavy rains, but the rains I’ve been getting are on and off. Plus the aeration helps retain the water 💦 to the lawn. So me personally my date came to apply and I did. You’ll have to decide what chance you want to take.👍🏾

I get anxious every year because my grass is always slow to come out of dormancy. My grass doesn’t get fully green until June but it stays green through November. I really like for it to green up by itself and not push with too much fertilizer.

@@TheViviMarie Same here but I have some sort of hybrid. It's greening up nicely so far but there's areas where there's some residual stalky looking brown grass. Can't wait for the full green! I've been bagging thus far but as soon as it's hot, I'll start mulching. I'm also going to take BYD's advice and look into that Double Dark Bio Nite...

Great info. I once saw a video from you on not to seed the store bermuda seed with common or hybrid bermuda (I can;t remember) because it won't be the same. I had a tree and have now a huge bare area. What should I do to get more bermuda going? It has a little of Saint A too but more bermuda.

Byd new lawn care enthusiast requesting advice on what i should be putting down this time of the year… I’m located in Memphis and have Bermuda sod …all season all I’ve fertilized with is milorganite/ lesco pre emergent (in the spring) … I’m to a point where i got the yard looking great naturally but still have some weeds and spider/cricket problems… what should i be putting down this time of year that won’t burn up my yard? … what is the focus this time of the year for most yard?

Good stuff! I tried to be nice and offered to let my parents Park a storage trailer on my side yard for a couple of weeks which has turned into 8 weeks! As soon as it moves I want to save that patch under it that's going brown. After watching this, I'm going to mow it short, I am going to aerate it, I'm going to water it, 24 hours later I'm going to put down fertilizer and water it again. 2 days later I'm going to water it again, etc. Sound correct? Any other thoughts?

I would not recommend that. Download the YardMastery app and see what the recommended for the time you want to apply. Both are gonna give you good results so no need to double dose the lawn.

BYD, I'm in South Carolina and I have Centipede Grass. The recommended NPK Fertilizer is Lesco 15-0-15. How would using Flagship 24-0-6 perform with my grass?

It will still perform good because it has a lot of other nutrients that the Lesco does not offer. But it may not last as long as the Lesco, I think the Lesco is 50 percent slow release. The flagship is only 25 percent. Not as long you mow often and keep her watered you’ll get great performance 🎭 from either one.

can i use fertilizer while there are weeds still in the yard? Im in SC and have been doing your recommendations. I used the lesco 0-07. Spectraside hose in sprayer and Image red label. It's yellowing right now but still not 100% gone. My plan is to use fertizler in May but I'm sure they'll still be some crabgrass, poanna violets still in the yard.

Front yard has poa. I've already used a spray hose image bottle but I wanna heavy reseed. I know I need to wait, and I do believe I have another 3 weeks but the poa hasn't really died off. I'm going to spot spray the poa and go ahead and reseed, unless someone can talk me off the ledge lol and give me some other tips and tricks please.

Yes but the key is watering it in at least 3 times that week. Temps over 💯 you gotta keep it moist for best results.

@Bermudagrass Central - How do you determine the correct spreader setting no matter what spreader you have? I only have the small Scotts electric Wizz due to small lawn, but ofc its never listed on package. I've just been guessing numbers based on the granule size...but would like to do it right. Help plz!

Quick answer here. If the bag says it’s 3lbs per 1k or 1 thousand sq ft. Get a lb scale. Weigh out 3lbs. Put that in the Wizz and apply it eventually in that 1k area.

BYD, one last question (for now) .... I was gonna order the Yardmastery 24-0-6 today, but I looked in my garage and saw I have four bags of Lesco 24-0-11 in my stash from last year. Will this work for my first spring fertilization or the 11 number to high for this time of year. Thanks!

I never heard of it, best practice is to feed the lawn as normal but still treat the weeds.

It’s a great addition to your lawn care Arsenal but does not take the place of true core aeration of the lawn. I’ve used it in the past but did not see a holy grail moment with that product. 👍🏾

Question I have is if you need to get the lawn back down but can't cut it all at once due to the 1/3 rule, how long do you need to wait until you cut it down to the height you want?

BYD I am bagging my yard still because of still some weeds in the lawn and also my neighbors don’t treat so when I cut the lawn three days later am I losing fertilizer?

Small possibility but more importantly water 💦 it but according to instructions. This is one reason I’ve said in the past videos I’d leave the weed and feed on lawn for up to two weeks before I mowed but that’s not probably gonna happen. I would ask the neighbors in a good manner to start treating their lawn so you both can #crushthybeighbor. But your not loosing enough fertilizer to make a huge difference.

3 lbs/1,000 aw ft. Of product. Did u measure before you put fert in hopper?

Yes, I already know I have 17,500 square ft. So if your not sure 🤔 you need to find that out. But say you didn’t know. If you put the spreader settings on the the num they suggest for you type of spreader you still apply at correct rate. But you’ll either come 🆙 short on product or you’ll have more that enough. Not sure but Remember fertilizers only work when watered in. I personally don’t recommend laying fert in 100 degree weather with no irrigation.

I am a new and first time homeowner, and let me tell you I am in over my head. Your videos are definitely helping me along, but i do have questions. It appears the builder put in 2 types of grass sod as one has a small broad green leaf and is FLAT on the ground with no upward growth in three months and one appearing light and fluffy (also sparse) with a small grass blade that has been growing. It looks heinous so my lawn looks like a weird checker/chessboard setup. I phoned and they told me they put down "holiday" Bermuda. So my question is twofold, have you heard of "holiday" bermuda and what do you suggest I do with my lawn? Should i have them rip it up and redo or give it time to grow?

Call the builder and tell him these sods pies are not the same. Explain to him it looks terrible. If you have an HOA see if they can assist. Or you have to know the exact farm that sod came from to match them up. Unfortunately that is a bad position the builder put you in. You can also call their corporate offices for assistance.

It you have a lot of weeds then weeds and feed, if minimal weeds Flagship her but use a post emergent on the weeds like Spectracide weed stop for lawns 470.

I’d do start fert on the new rolls, lime won’t hurt either. No weed and feed on new sod.?with time she will be recovering. But you have to play the wait game. There are no quick fixes to those situations 👍🏾
