I feel like Lucas Van Ness is going to break out. He has the ability to be more aggressive and attack the quarterback which seems like his straight line style. Lucas Van Ness, Kingsley Enagbare, and Karl Brooks are all capable of being starters as well. This DLine could be scary good. It should be good indeed. This defense can be deadly, hopefully they will live up to the hype. It has the potential to be to be a lights out season changing defense. This will be the best defense we have had since when Charles Woodson and Clay Matthews were together on the same team. Jeff Hafley alone is going to improve this defense. The rotation players on Edge, Linebacker, and Cornerback ain’t bad either. That front 4 makes me really hopeful. The Packers secondary is looking good too of course. I can’t wait to see this new more aggressive defense. I’m feeling really good about this Packers team overall this year, it has so much potential that I can’t wait to see in September. Totally agree. I think we've had the dudes to be a top defense for years now. Just not the best coaching. Ya gotta let them play and be aggressive. That Van Ness tackle on Prescott in the playoffs made me super excited for him. Bad decision by Dak but that's probably because he wasn't expecting Lucas to get there so fast.
That safety room is very deep this season unlike last year when Savage was leading the way. Be nice to see McKinney back there someone can tackle instead of Savage who couldn't! All 3 safeties drafted look solid & Anthony Johnson Jr 7th rounder last season looked good. Run D must improve for damn sure & need someone solid in the slot very key in todays NFL. Secondary could be top 5 if Jaire earns his big fat paycheck after under performing past 2 yrs. Go Pack Go!
@@SportsTalkWisconsin This D should look very much like the D Robert Saleh employs with the NYJ (ranked 3rd in the NFL last season). The scheme should also fit the GB personnel much better than Joe Barry's vanilla defenses. The corners will play allot more man & press coverage which caters to guys like Jaire Alexander, Carrington Valentine & Eric Stokes styles. Expect allot less blitzing something Joe Barry did often. The primary goal in this scheme is to get pressure using only 4 much more. Have 7 guys back in coverage but more close to the line of scrimmage then Barry would employ. Having an extra safety in the box will benefit the linebackers & edge players. With the injection of so much young talent now there are several heat seeking missiles can come from so many different places. That should bode well for this team when they do choose to blitz. The only real question would be how good is the run defense. Jeff Hafley didn't do very well vs the run in college. However the addition of Edgerrin Cooper my favorite selection in this years draft should help. He is a bonafide run stuffer & was the top rated linebacker coming out of this years college draft selections! With a potent backend he should be able to continue to focus on stopping the run. Former Packer great Mike Whale thinks allot of the selection as well. Speaking about how good he is at getting penetration & tackles for loss. Something he complains about with Quay Walker. Says Quay plays "catchers mitt'" making allot of tackles but only after 6-7 yards gains. He needs to penetrate much better. In this scheme Quay will be asked to do what he did for Georgia in college. Another player who should benefit greatly from the new scheme being employed by Jeff Hafley. Isiah McDuffie is also very good vs the run. Expected to get more snaps with Devondre Campbell gone now until Edgerrin Cooper is ready to take the starting role along side Quay. I'd expect that will happen very quickly. Edgerrin Cooper is my pick to win this years NFL rookie of the year! Go Pack Go!
Once again this team continues to be disrespected. Nothing new for the Packers. But that's a positive because this team has ALWAYS excelled when they were underestimated! It's when they've been favored & expected to win they have been miserable failures. Two Hall of Fame QBs for 30 years plus but only 2 Superbowl victories to show for it. Jordan Love proved last season when he protects the ball he is an absolute baller. With the master Tom Clements returning to coach him another season things look bright! Can he turn Jordan Love into another great ball control QB as he did with Aaron Rodgers? Remember he helped Brett Favre decrease his interceptions & become a HOF QB! Kyler Murray the other young QB he mentored has turned into a decent QB for a midget! First half of the 2023 season when Jordan was throwing interceptions he struggled greatly. Down the stretch in the last 9 games he had 18 tds with only 1 interception & balled! If Love can continue to protect the ball this team will be a serious Superball contender. Next step in Love's progression now is to prove he can play in the clutch when it counts most! He chocked late in games throwing interceptions when he needed a TD to win those games. He did that also at the end of the San Francisco game as well. A team GB should have beaten. Had Matt run the ball with Jones instead of throwing 6 incompletions on 1st downs 1st half. Had he done so they'd beaten the Lions & KC for the second time last season to win the SB! Let's just hope Matt has learned to lean into his run game & will run on 1st downs this year. The Packers struggled start of last season winning the time of possession battle each game. Matt is a offensive passing guru for certain but I sure wish he'd lean in his run game more! Matt needs to do a much better job of controlling the clock & winning the time of possession. This team made all the right moves during this off season. Kudos to Gutekunst & his staff! They added & signed two premium big money free agents in Xavier McKinney & Josh Jacobs. Gutekunst looks like he had another excellent draft grabbing some big names again in 2024. He certainly looks like he hit it out of the park on day two grabbing Cooper, Bullard & Lloyd! If this draft class is as good as last two were this team should absolutely excel this season. They also let the underachievers walk (Darnell Savage, Josiah Deguara & Jon Runyan Jr). Mr. Royce Newman your next! Time to cut this stiff which will gain GB 3.1 million vs the cap! Stokes & Myers better excel this season or they also should be cut loose end of this season. Next draft should be about replacing Kenny Clark & Preston Smith. Two Packer greats. But both are aging & their games deteriorating. Those contracts are just too expensive now. Youth makes more sense now so I would assume this is on Gutekunst's radar in 2025 draft. This offense should be an absolute juggernaut this season. Improving with experience. The backfield & strong running game can only compliment that deep WR/TE core they have. If they can add 2 solid O line players with Elgton Jenkins & Zach Tom it can be elite again. GB's offense is as potent as any team in this league bar none! No defense that scares me. It's the addition of the new defensive coaches, a new defensive philosophy & scheme is key. GB injected majority of it's draft capital into it's defense & O line where it was needed most. I'm very excited to see them pick up E Cooper a bonified run stuffing specialist in the draft. Top ILB in this draft! With an improved back end should be able continue to focus on the run. The Packers must prove this season they can finally stop the run game vs any team they play. 4 games last season vs run teams - ATL, PITT, DET, NYG all of whom went 200+ on ground! This team needs a top 10 defense if they want to compete for the Superbowl this season. That new backend looks to have the potential to be a top 5 secondary provided Jaire is back. Alexander needs to earn that big fat paycheck after 2 injury riddled seasons & subpar play. This unit needs to get turnovers. Something GB have always been leaders at in this league. Past couple of seasons GB have struggled winning the turnover battle. That needs to change. It's time for Rich Bisaccia to prove his worth! Packers special teams must excel this year. With the return of Tyler Davis the Packers best special teams player two season ago. Plus the addition of strong teams specialist in the draft & also resigning of most key teamers. He has disputably the best returner in the NFL in Keisean Nixon new kick rules should help. It's time for this unit to be among the league leaders & not underachieve once again! Anders Carlson must improve in year two with more consistency in his kicking game. Remember he was perfect thru first 7 games last season before struggling rest of the year. This team should end up in the NFC championship game if they play to their potential. Where they will likely face the SF 49ers their kryptonite! That needs to change in 2024-25! Go Pack Go!
Won't it be fun to see one or two of our Packer defenders flash into the opposite backfield for a loss and that team goes 3 and out, and then again as that team falls behind and the league turns down the sound on their game and gather around and, whew, look at this guy's, we all be in trouble....
