St. Jimmy's comin' down across the alleyway Up on the boulevard like a zip gun on parade Light of a silhouette He's insubordinate Coming at you on the count of one, two (one, two, three, four) My name is Jimmy and you better not wear it out Suicide commando that your momma talked about King of the forty thieves And I'm here to represent That needle in the vein of the establishment I'm the patron saint of the denial With an angel face and a taste for suicidal Cigarettes and Ramen and a little bag of dope I am the son of a bitch and Edgar Allan Poe Raised in the city under a halo of lights The product of war and fear that we've been victimized I'm the patron saint of the denial With an angel face and a taste for suicidal Are you talkin' to me? I'll give you something to cry about St. Jimmy My name is St. Jimmy I'm a son of a gun I am the one that's from the way outside A teenage assassin executing some fun In the cult of the life of crime I'd really hate to say it but I told you so So shut your mouth before I shoot you down ol' boy Welcome to the club and give me some blood I'm the resident leader of the lost and found It's comedy and tragedy, It's St. Jimmy And that's my name, and don't wear it out
Ok, so I have a story. I was looking through my third grade yearbook, and came upon a section that I filled out in third grade about myself. Everything was normal, It looked like a nice, stereotypical third grade profile, until it said: The song I like to listen the most is ___________. I had answered St. Jimmy. Just now, I was wondering what song that was. I looked it up on RU-vid, and here I am. So I listened to greenday in third grade? Seems legitimate.
Still my favorite Green Day song. I've got awesome memories of goofing off with my best friend in our 8th grade math class and writing the lyrics to this on the back of our school ID's.
being honest the hardest part is the foot technique cause the hi hat speed is very achievable for most people if they practice for some months or years
This has to be my favourite song on the album; I’m so upset I have to sit through Are We the Waiting every time I want to listen to it digitally. Thank you for this
I never looked up American Idiot on RU-vid, because I've had the album since 3rd grade. I mean, you'll eventually get a little tired after that long, doesn't matter how much you like it. Then, I put it on my mp3 and was swiftly reminded that all my Green Day albums skip because of wear from all the times I listened to them back then. Pretty much all the time. Such a relief to actually hear it go the way it's meant to go, y'know?
Love this song, saw them do it at Leeds Festival 2013 and Billie did like a minute-long pause of just standing there before the "AND DON'T WEAR IT OUT!", it was great!
That's the point dude it's like a punk rock opera it tells a story. I feel like this was the last good album they made. Not a big fan of the newer stuff. I feel like it's too much image they're worried about. Miss when they would just wear whatever on stage.
I first listened to this song back in 2006, I was 11 years old, and instantly loved it. Yesterday they headlined one of Rock In Rio’s days, and I was rooting for them to play St. Jimmy and they did, I was so freaking happy! The show was great, Green Day is awesome as hell
@Joseph Eberhardt Exactly. For example, it seems like they always have pop acts doing the Super Bowl Half-time Show. If Green Day is ever announced to perform it, I'd record it in a heartbeat.
He's saying he's a son of bitch and Edgar Allen Poe, meaning he has a bitch attitude but is good with words/poetic, that or his viewpoint could be very dark.
Well, his shit was edgy as fuck, and he's usually attributed with being pretty fucked up in the head, so I can understand why he'd be an appealing character to a punk teenager.
Remember that time i wrote a fanfic where Jimmy was the leader of a gang called Suburbia and for whatever reason they called their leaders saints good times
Pap Smeare here's the document of it, if you wish: docs.google.com/document/d/194E6lLz9nVmYCXkkrIPaRtbkXMWtHDR76W_PgeCyLlQ/edit?usp=drive_web It's also on Wattpad but the servers are currently crashed so
this song is underrated af, i really dont get it why does everyone ignore all the good shit? i mean, you hear these fucking musically oblivious teen girls talking about the weaker shit from green day like "boulevard of broken dreams".
+Hide yo “Thupermain” Jimmies Hey hey hey....that whole album was straight poetry. They're both good songs, though I agree this needs more recognition.

i remember plugging my earphones in after middleschool everyday, starting this track while running home like a crazy person. this gave me the holiday feeling everytime. (not the greenday song, more like "vacation")
My schools doing Midsummer Nights Dream for their drama production and they're somehow getting punk music into it (don't ask) and so I'm auditioning for a singing part and on the paper it says to be prepared to sing a rock/punk song so imma be singing this. I mean this is pretty punk right?

TRUE STORY : I was watching the iHeart Radio show in Las Vegas Live Stream and right once I got on, this song was playing. I fell in love with Green Day ever since
I remember a while ago when i was in 8th grade, the school was having this party near the end of the year, one of the like 5. they said we could bring our own music on a disk and play it. I brought American idiot and they actually listened to me for once and put it in. All you could year was Jesus of Suburbia around the school. Got the band teacher into Green Day, Pissed off the jocks( here they are brain-dead obsessed with some shitty nature walk video) by getting rid of their pop/dubstep music, and got my first kiss. ;) Great day.
