Green Lantern: The Animated series is an overlooked masterpiece, and I relate a lot to Green Lantern Jessica Cruz because she has anxiety struggles like myself.
I find it strange that the character of Green Lantern is blamed and shunned by DC for the movie being bad and not the people that wrote such a boring movie. Any hero is susceptible to being put in an awful movie, but that doesn’t mean they can’t star in an excellent one. It’s up to the writers.
Considering that DC replaced Martian Manhunter with Cyborg as a founding member of the justice league during the New52 and Rebirth era, and not only that but is always being pushed to the side, it’s not surprising. Which is ashamed because if you read some of the pre New52 era of the justice league books, specifically the 90s run, he was stated to be the heart of the team.

He is a peace keeper. From a foreign world just trying to understand Earth. He probably had the most versatile powers in comics. Too bad they have to nerf him in combat to keep Superman on his separate pedestal. They could really expand his story and villains. I really hope James sees that. @@ID0XX I think it has to do with how DC doesn’t push him towards an audience compared to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and even Green Arrow. Which does sucks because he is an interesting character there are so many things you can do with him. I’m surprised we never got a team up with him and characters like Superman or Batman, with him also being the last survivor of his home planet and a detective. As for Cyborg, I agree. I never saw him being with the JL. Not saying he can’t be a member of the team but a founding member doesn’t work with his character, bc outside of a power boost, he doesn’t have the same relationship and development with the league compared to the titans. Vic’s only real friendship he had with the league was with Shazam. Whereas, his relationship with Batman, Barry Allen, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Green Lanterns (Hal, John, Simon, and Jessica), and Aquaman were more like a rookie/young coworker being with a bunch of older coworkers. But his relationship with Beast Boy, Starfire, Nightwing, Donna Troy, Raven, Wally West, Jericho, Arsenal, and Tempest actually helped make him a great character bc their friendship to the point where he’s also shown as the heart of the team. Even the younger generations how would become a member of the teen titans look up to him because of those reasons.
I honestly feel the exact same about GL. He needs some serious love again. I am just thankful that James Gunn has plans for not only Hal Jordan, but John Stewart, and Guy Gardner in the new DCU
Green lantern is probably the most mishandled character in fiction, on my opinion he is the comic book character with the biggest potential and one of the richest universes in comic books but wb just overlooks and mistreat him, I entirely agree with this video. 100% agree with this video. Geoff Johns was a big proponent of GL popularity. Of course through his run but it also spawned several spin-off books and kept the comic franchise going strong long after he stopped writing GL but once he left DC’s editorial offices, they really downplayed his mythology through the Morrison run and then especially the thorne series which spat in the face of it. With Jeremy Adams taking over, GL has become strong again in comics but not as strong as under Johns’ control.
My favorite Green Lantern is Jessica Cruz. Her design is really neat and I love the idea that she has to power through her anxiety to use her powers. And my favorite Lantern Corps is Red because I watched the Green Lantern cartoon and they left a big impression on my, especially Razer
Favorite is the red lanterns by far but my favorite GL is John Stewart cuz of the JL cartoons I grew up watching. Hal Jordan may be the main one and all but John Stewart was always so cool to me
John Stewart and the blue lantern core. It’s something about having hope that resonates with me in real life and to have that to be the core of your power is really cool to me.
My favorite Green Lantern is Jessica Cruz, because I also struggle with anxiety and she’s very relatable. “A Day in the Life” from the Green Lanterns series is one of my favorite comics of all time.
Genuinely, I love the Green Lanterns in general. But my favorite is Kyle Rayner for is creativity, and balance in emotions. Hal Jordan my second favorite, but I wish there was more content for the Lanterns themselves. Could you imagine a Green Lantern base video game? That would be a dream, and skills would have to be training to make good constructs.
I wasn't very impressed with the Ryan Reynolds movie, but I remember liking Hal Jordan in Injustice 1&2. Jon Stewart's always a badass whenever I see him too. I'm interested in Jessica Cruz as well. Hell, finding out there was a whole spectrum of Lanterns was kinda mindblowing to me lol.
Im glad that green lantern gets a show in the DCU but I would like to him in the DCU with movies in superframe vision because he deserves it and he is so unique compared to other superhero characters
Hopefully the DCU project will get some more eyes on these characters again but its still a shame how they were just pushed out of the limelight because of the movies reception.
I think its clear WB is scared to release anything that might not be an automatic box office hit. Their financial situation has put them in that spot. They are a bit tone deaf and doesn't notice when people want something. For example CW teased the idea of John Diggle becoming a Green Lantern, and for the first time in a long time...people were excited about something related to CW. They cancelled that plan. Nobody gets hype for anything CW and the one thing people wanted, they cancelled. WB are gun shy, they don't wanna do anything with the character that could be a failure. Especially since he would be a character where they'd be spend a lot on CGI.
Really sad to see the current state of GL in terms of recognition too. The comics used to be really expensive and focus on all this extended lore and multiple corps and now it's more one track.
Kyle is probably my favorite if I had to pick one. I 100% agree with your point though. I was getting into comics in the 2000s and the organic rise in popularity of GL from the Johns run was nuts. It’s really sad how WB/DC basically crucified the character/brand after the movie flopped.
Yes! 100%. I remember when you did your “no one know what to do with Superman” video and I said the same thing. I read the Johns GL run a few months back and I want to read the other GL Corps books that ran along side (I read johns and some tie-ins and that was it). GL is so awesome and I wish DC would push these characters more in the mainstream media. Hopefully that Lanterns show will be good and make people that don’t know them, like them.

My favorite Green Lanterns are Kyle Rayner and Jessica Cruz. Which I do like the idea on how DC had tried to set up a future state for them where Kyle ends up becoming the new White Lantern and he assembles the White Lantern Corps while Jessica Cruz ends up embracing the power of the Yellow Lantern.
Another game which is pretty Green Lantern centered is Lego Batman 3. Yeah, it’s a kids game but I think it is the only game that really explores the different planets and corps of the GL universe.
Recently got way more into Green Lantern stuff. Always liked them from stuff, but only recently got in depth into the comics more. Kyle and Saint Walker are my favorites for sure. Hal Jordan is my favorite DC character and superhero of all time. Him and Martian Manhunter deserve more love, I’m praying James Gunn brings them back into the limelight with his DCU
I grew up watching the justice league and justice league unlimited shows so john stuart is my favourite, Its a shame DC has shifted their focus to mostly Batman and suicide squad it feels like they dont care about anything else and I'm saying that as someone who loves Batman but at the same time its hard to deny that he gets too much stuff compared to the rest of the dc heroes.
All Green Lantern needed is just a "real Suit" for a Live Action Movie or Show instead of a terrible "animated Suit," like how Hard can it freaking be?
Superman is my favorite, but as for Green Lantern goes I don’t really have a favorite. But I love the lore, Green Lantern could’ve been the Star Wars of live action movies, WB dropped the ball that. If I had a favorite Lantern it’s between Hal and John.
Hal Jordan is not only my favorite DC hero of all time. he's also my favorite Green Lantern. I love it when they break down is psychology and his relationship to fear. Though Green Lantern has had a lot of rough patches, his current run by Jermey Adams is quite good.
Personally, my favorite Green Lantern character is Razer from the GLTAS. I also liked how they followed that up in Young Justice Phantoms, making him a red and blue Lantern
You can have several lanterns but have them each have a different adventure. Or be a different branches of the corps. Like does the corp have an actual military structure to it with rankings and field stations. John steward could lead a branch that focuses on reconstruction, repairing planets and being a peace corp. Guy Garner could be the marine or army of the corp. Something that still builds the universe.

Absolute great video. Hal and John have been my favorite lanterns for long a Di fan remember. And Geoff Johns run is one of the greatest stories in comics history I firmly believe. A dynamic I more so enjoy is Hal having more space adventures and John being with the JL. I know people enjoy Guy, Kyle, Jessica, and Simon. But it’s just too much. I know they tried to explain why earth had “so many” lanterns a while back but it seemed like a cop out. They should really just focus on branding Hal and John and other corps.
Being a Green Lantern fan in the modern era is like crawling through the Sahara with cinderblocks strapped to your ankles and broken glass slicing your hands and feet - it's *rough* My favorite Lantern Corps is the Red Lantern Corps. And naturally, my favorite members are Atrocitus and Dex-Starr. Larfleeze and the Orange Lantern Corps is a close second.

I love Green Lantern. Ever since the movie he has been cut out. Even in my local comic shop there are barely any comics with Green Lantern. I want to collect the Geoff Johns Green Lantern stuff because Hal is my favourite Green Lantern. I love Carol Ferris and Atrocitus. I wish we would get a really good Green Lantern adaptation because this character is really cool and he means a lot to me. Just because you make one bad movie doesn’t mean the whole character should be ignored. Batman and Robin came out but guess what we got Batman Begins and the Arkham Games which revitalised the character of Batman. The same should happen for Green Lantern. He has so much potential. He is a whole corner of the Dc universe. I also want to see Hal’s friendship with Barry be explored and his role as a leader along with his relationship with Carol. I hope James Gunn makes a great Green Lantern show. I don’t think he should stray away from the cosmic elements of the character though.
At this point man, Every Single DC superhero other than The God-damned Batman & Aquaman deserves better. Especially In media outside the comics. • Robin/Nightwing/Titans • Superman/Supergirl/Superboy • Plastic Man/Elongated man/Red Tornado • Martian Manhunter/Martain Girl/Jemm • Jon Stewart/Kyle Rayner/Simon Baz/Alan Scott • The Joker/Lex Luthor/Reverse Flash/Death-Stroke • Captain Atom/Firestorm/The Atom • Darksied/Highfather/Orion/Kalibak • Mr. Mxy/The Monitors/The Presence The list goes on & on & on regarding underutilized, untapped, or just straight up mishandled characterization or narrative intent with so very many DC characters. A problem im not sure if it's even possible to fix... (James Gunn's DCU is gonna blow...)
I'm not as big of a Lantern fan, but I've always been interested by the meaning behind the different Corps. My favorite GL is either Kyle or Hal. Overall, I think my favorite Corp is the Red because I think Atrocitus is underrated. But I also think the Black could be interesting if handled right like Blackest Night.
I agree wholeheartedly. That movie of the green lantern , shows how much they care about the lantern franchise as a whole . They didn't hire a great director , an actor that was passionate put hal Jordan, and a good Cgi artist to make a great movie , and they never did that . I want a new movie , or a new live action or a new animation movie , just please , make a great movie live action , a remake of that movie with more effort and passion it's just what we asked , and a movie that starts the war of ligth , be it live action or animated. Just please , give the lanetrns some love and respect.
My favorite lantern core is orange lafflze is such an enjoyable character my favorite lantern is probably hal but guy is slept on because will power isn't necessarily good and most people with the aren't good

I wish DC would make an adaptation of the GL film into a comic. I bought all the movie tie in comics yet they never actually adapted the film. So I got four tie-ins with no film book.
My favorite lantern is John because of JLU also it’s still annoying to me that the arrowverse was sorta teasing green lantern for like 2 to 3 years and then they just dropped it after a while for no real reason and I wish that show would have come out
Alan Scott is my favorite Lantern, followed by John Stewart; also a big fan of the Corp characters; less big of a fan of Hal; Kyle is my least favorite, along with Guy Gardner; never really liked the Emotional Spectrum, stuff; not into the other Earth Lanterns, at all…

could u talk about wonder woman? shes such a convoluted character with numerous iterations, and from my perspective she lacks core themes/charcteristics. i can't learn anything about her outside of youtube videos and movies, maybe some shows, but i get the feeling that her core character is often assassinated the same way supermans character is whenever he's on a movie, because i can't find anything interesting about her other than that she's essentially a war machine
