Here's a cooking hack for chopping greens. Place your greens with a lot of water in your Vitamix ...use the pulse option and pulse until the greens are chopped how you prefer . Strain water out. You have both washed your greens and chopped them. I have never gone back to traditional knife chopping off my greens ... I eat more greens now !
You two make my day. You make me laugh out loud so much, especially Ann.. I love her! You two have such a good mother/daughter relation and cook such wholesome food. I have your heart healthy cookbook but may buy Engine 2 cookbook after seeing this recipe cooked. Thanks for being so natural and not trying to be perfect like so many other You tubers... it is refreshing. keep them coming.
Never take the pit out of your avocado by holding the fruit in your hand. Emergency rooms deal with injuries from this avocado pitting technique all the time! Please at least lay your avocado on the cutting board, then you can hack at it. Never hack toward your hand! JANE PLEASE READ THIS TO SAVE INJURIES. Thanks!
I was a little scared to try this dish as I’m not the biggest kale fan. So, i chopped the kale super fine and I also crumbled and marinated the tofu. I cooked the tofu for a long time, which made it nice and crunchy. This is honestly one of the best salads I have ever had. I would have eaten the whole bowl if my stomach would have let me!
This is my type of kitchen! I love everything about it! So much better than the streamlined, sterile looking kitchens that seem to be the flavor of the moment! Love this channel! You and your mom are great! :-)
I love this recipe too! It’s the dirtiest page in the book because it’s been used so many times, 🤣. We use spinach instead of kale, and throw in a few pistachios. 😋
I just made this dressing sans garlic and jalapeño. It tasted like a Japanese dressing at a Japanese restaurant. . It was sooooo wonderful. I did not measure the ingredients . I just combined them. I used iceberg lettuce and I must confess I used grilled chicken breast - I am trying to transition slowly to wfpb. No more oily dressings for me!
This was the most delicious dish! It is so helpful when you demo a recipe from the books. I always want to make everything after I see you two do it! I didn’t have tofu or avocados tonight but I added a diced up peach and threw in a can of chickpeas. Everything is better with your lightning sauce!!
NOTE: ****The full recipe for the salad and dressing is listed in the second reply to this comment.**** I am fully committed to FOK and have bought FOUR cookbooks: The China Study Quick & Easy, FOK Flavour, Plant Strong and FOK Plan. Do I really need to also buy the Engine 2 cookbook in order to make this delicious sounding Green Lightening Bowl? It would seem so, yes, because, sadly, it is impossible to get the exact measurements for the dressing from watching the video. If I already have the cookbook, do I need to watch a video to follow the recipe? Not really! Fortunately, someone was kind enough to post pictures on Pinterest of the two pages in the cookbook that one needs to make the salad. I guess this is copyright infringement but I took advantage of it and can’t wait to make the dish. When you make a video of how to prepare a specific recipe, why not be precise in giving out the ingredient quantities OR post the recipe below the video. I cannot believe you would only make the video in order to sell the cookbook. Thank you for all you do, Ann and Jane! 💕🌸
@@beabchill Try Googling “Green Lightening Bowl recipe” and two of the images that will come up will be the recipe pages for the salad and the dressing. If you click on the images you will go to the Pinterest pages they are from. Not sure what will happen if you are not a Pinterest member. You used to have to be invited to become a member. Hopefully you can take a screenshot of the pages. I don’t have great internet reception where I am at the moment but, since I just made the salad yesterday, here are the ingredients from memory. In the video there were no green onions, if memory serves, but they are listed in the written recipe. The dressing: 5 tbsp each of maple syrup and Tamari (5tbsp = 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp.) 2 tbsp rice vinegar 1 garlic clove, minced 2 tsp. minced fresh ginger 1/2 jalapeño pepper, minced Juice and zest of one lime Salad: 1- 14oz pkg firm tofu, cut into small cubes, marinated in a mix of 1/2 cup each of Tamari & maple syrup and then baked on parchment for 45 mins. @ 400F - flip them over halfway through. 8oz ramen noodles cooked and rinsed well in cold water 1 bunch kale, stems removed, chopped fairly fine 6 green onions, sliced 1/2 cup chopped cilantro 1 good sized avocado, cubed 3 tbsp. toasted sesame seeds Toss all salad ingredients, except the sesame seeds, with the dressing. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and serve. It is absolutely delicious!!!!
I haven't liked tofu in the past but this recipe has changed my mind! This was delicious and refreshing. The only substitution I used was one lemon instead of two limes. Next time, I'll dry the tofu more thoroughly so it'll get crisp.
you two are a hoot! your mom looks like my mom who i lost 4 yrs ago-she was 93 and tonight i had the blues and was thinking abt her. Anyway this video came up in my feed and i was giggling at both of you and smiling :) I just subscribed, liked and shared it with my sister and on twitter!
OMG, I think I’ve found my new favourite channel! You are a Dynomite Duo! It would normally be rude to ask but I think in both your cases it’s more of a compliment, is there any video where tou tell us your chronological ages? Because the energy and vitality of you both, OMG, you seem like you are both in your 30’s!! You are both a walking, talking, LONG TERM advertisement for this way of life and I am so grateful to see it because it shows me what I might be like in the long run! THANK YOU BOTH!
This salad/dressing combo is da’bomb! OMG I have shared this at so many dinners with family and friends and they all want the recipe. A game changer for sure! Thank you Jane & Ann! Love you guys and your recipes!
I like the way you avoid wheat flour. I’m gluten intolerant, so I am so happy to find plant based recipes without wheat flour. So I am buying your cookbooks.
Love your videos. I purchased your beautiful Reverse Heart Disease Cookbook. Love Love Love. Hope to purchase all other Cookbooks. Thank you so much for your beautiful recipes. Wonderful sharing nutritional information. Love you Both. Love Tamson from Kentucky 🦋
i’m so stingy, after i squeeze each half in the citrus press i put the two halves in, on their sides, facing each other, and squeeze again. i usually get at least another teaspoon or two of juice! thanks for another great recipe-i love you guys!
This was great. Your mom is adorable! I loved watching the two of you together.,,,,I found this on accident and I may actually try this recipe and I'm not even Vegan!
Jane, ironically I had tofu marinating with a similar sauce in the fridge and after watching your enthusiasm about this being your all time favorite. I had to make it. Oh my goodness!! First bite everyone said “Oh my...” several times. My son went on and on. This is going to be a regular go to recipe. Thank you so much for sharing!! You two are so much fun to watch.
You can't "act" like you guys on purpose. That's how I know you two are really REAL. So funny. So much character. And this looks really GOOD. Thanks for making this video.
Don’t know how this video got recommended to me but I’m so glad it did. The recipe looks delicious! Your relationship is adorable and I love how you filmed it with no edit from start to finish so we can follow along at home. Big love from uk :)
Your videos with your mom make me so happy. It's incredible to see your bond together, hanging out while making plant meals. Now I want to go hang out with my mom 💙
Some people cannot taste cilantro. They taste soap. I use parsley when I know there will be someone who only tastes soap. This salad is something for Sunday. 😄
Oh my gosh! I've seen many hand patients that had to have lots of hand therapy after taking the pit out of an avocado like you did. That is so dangerous. Please, both of you need to learn proper and safe knife skills. I can't believe you actually instructed your followers to do it that way. You can lose the use of your hand in a heartbeat.
I just so happened to have the ingredients and made this last night - it sounded like strange...but oh wow the flavors are SO GOOD! Thank you Jane and Ann!
We can also crumble the tofu. I love that clip of the Doc saying “It’s the oil. It’s the oil. One more time: It’s the oil.” 🤪 “We have so much bald fruit.” 😂
I have used this one from Amazon for a number of years and still love it...Deluxe Original Cookbook Holder - Acrylic Shield With Wooden Base and Black Hinges - Made in the USA
I liked this but found it too sweet overall. Will reduce or eliminate the maple syrup next time (at least in the dressing). I also used arugula instead of kale, which was great.
Tip: if you don't have a lemon or line juicer, you can always use a fork. You just put the fork in the half cut lemon or lime and twist and squeeze. Works great. You just need a little elbow grease for it to work.
This looks fantastic. All I could think while watching was to add thinly sliced cabbage, julienne red bell peppers, shredded carrots, and sliced green onions. I am going to make this soon. You guys are so fun to watch.
I have the genetics where cilantro leaves taste horribly, yet the finely chopped cilantro stems are good. I liked the idea of subbing basil, as mentioned initially.
I hope I’m not repeating myself! My Mother In Law was visiting and she did the same thing. Used it the wrong way. I was cracking up when I showed her the right way. I laughed and laughed 🤭 She was really surprised. Making this tonight ! Between you and Two Dads. I will make it delicious 😋
Thanks for the video! Always a pleasure to see you both.❤ I've been wanting to try this one, we've been stuck on the teriyaki bowl lately and this would be a good change up.🌈
I made this last night and IT IS AMAZING!!! I will definitely be putting this into my weekly rotation. My husband doesn’t like tofu and he was eating it off the pan before I could even mix it. The warm tofu on top is really good. Thank you!!!
I can’t wait to try this. I don’t know if I like tofu but I will give it a go. Love you guys! I’m getting the book today. I’m salivating. I’m making double too. It’s just for me bc my husband doesn’t eat a plant base diet, he’s a cardiologist...one would think he would understand the importance of being plant based. Anyway more for me. Thanks so much!
My husband isn't plant based either, but he will eat most of the salads I make with whatever else he's having. He would love this one, I know because he likes spicy things.
Looks like a great meal. A video on tofu would be awesome. 😁 How to buy it, what to look for. What to stay away from etc. Different ways to use it. isn’t it made from soy? Isn’t soy controversial? Another confusing health info dilemma. Soy is a big gmo crop, do you look for organic? It’s hard to know the accurate info. I would love to increase tofu in my diet. My nephew made a vegan lasagna with cheese made of tofu. Hands down the best lasagna I ever had. Better then the heavy boggy traditional meal. Thank you so much. I love it- mom: Jane WHY are you doubting it?? Jane : BECAUSE ILOVE IT SO MUCH! Lol ❤️ love your enthusiasm ❤️. I have really learned a lot of good info and meal ideas from this channel. Thank you so much.
Carla Bakelaar I see that lol. Thanks for the heads up at least I know it’s not personal lol. Bummer! I guess I will look for another channel with that info.
This comment is meant with love so I hope it is received well, but you two are the real life Dorthy and Sophia lol The Golden Girls is my favorite show. This salad looks good.
NEW IDEA on my The Green TREE group on facebook, for healing...using Sea Salt rubs with any Org. GREENS, includ. Organic Dandelion leaves (good for Liver "bitter" greens), Org. Kale, Org. Spinach, etc. Just sea salt to taste, pat dry, add 1 tsp. Olive Oil & practically HEAL yourselves> Cancer + Diabetes, Viruses CANNOT survive. NEVER, EVER, NEED MEAT to SURVIVE. Told that crazy Raw Meat Eater Vegetable Police, who used to be a Vegan...just now > on his latest video... HA HA HA HA. Once we metabolize the Greens, NO NEED for much of the other Supplements as it is a Prebiotic and/or Probiotic w/ Sea salt rubs...the Healing Chlorophyll is given in Revelation 22:2 as "the Leaves of the TREE (of Life) shall be for the healing of the Nations"...thus the Original Plant-based diet of Genesis 1:29-31, also suggested in Isaiah 11th chapter, Isa. 65:25 & summarized in REVELATION 22:2 "the Leaves of the TREE (of Life) shall be for the healing of the nations"...thus the Original VEGAN Plant-based diet.
I had to laugh when you discovered Ann didn't know how to use the juicer--I think maybe 10 years ago my daughter and husband were playing sous chef with me in the kitchen and they saw😆 I used my squeezy with the rind facing up and they were like "WHUUUUUUUT?"
I happened across this video again and made this recipe with what I had on hand. I subbed the brown rice noodles for chickpea pasta, and the kale for a box of arugula! (These subbed items are what I had on hand). But, wow! What a great recipe!!!! 👍 I will be making this again and again! So yummy tasty! Thank you so much for your videos because I need these. I'm a visual learner. Thank you 😊 💓
(with a playful lisp ai 10:55) "Here com'th the pith!" I don't remember any pith on the litht of ingredienth! LOL You girls are sassy! Thanks to your family for helping me look forward to age 36 and beyond!
Jane, please look at page 189 of the Engine 2 Cookbook, Thai Curry Sweet Potato Bowl. There seems to be a step missing about what you do with the oat milk green curry sauce. Please advise. Thanks Luann Wiedenmann
Bummer went to buy the cookbook for this recipe clicked on your link and I ended up buying the wrong book. It took me to Amazon for the purchase of prevent reverse heart disease book :(
Still confused due to No Oil... Even people who consume nutrients via TPN (nutrients delivered via intravenous since they have nonfunctional digestive system)... get lots of oil such as olive oil , coconut oil, fish oil, via TPN. So why no oil in Dr Esselstyn's food regimen???
Jane! Help! I am allergic to soy, so this wouldn't work for me (omg it sounds SO good!). So can you guide me to other flavor profiles? Or flavor substitutes for the tamari?
Hey ladies, I made this and my family liked it. But, don’t cook the tofu for 45 minutes! And don’t pour the sauce in with the tofu on the parchment lined baking sheet. I ended up burning my tofu.
Keep them coming I enjoy them and I love the support I get from it. You will never know how much this helps me. Thank you for I know it is allot of work. God continue to Bless you all. Peace. Do you press your Tofu?
Loving your new book xx Please may you advise what pans you use? I've checked out the kitchen tool link but your lovely saucepans are not listed - Kindest x
I bought the Engine 2 cookbook for this recipe - it is sooo good I have made it several times and is going on regular rotation. I did notice you guys forgot the green onion when you were making it - Jane said she knew the recipe by heart and forgot them!
