I have yet to visit Greenwood and this video makes me want to see it even more! I swear NYC has some of the most beautiful cemeteries in the country from Trinity church to Woodlawn and even the little Spanish-Portuguese Jewish cemeteries. Gives you a unique perspective on NYC history
when we went to the catacombs it was at night it was part of a play. The catacombs where awesome the play not so much. Also "Baked in Brooklyn" is across the street if you want coffee or food to bring along while you walk this beautiful resting place.
OMG, I would NEVER let someone close me in a mausoleum!!! I would FREAK OUT!!! My heart stopped a little just seeing you guys disappear into the blackness! Wow, that's so fascinating about Greenwood being a tourist attraction and a catalyst for Central Park! Tranquility Gardens is beautiful! Great video! So interesting to hear about this place!
as long as you are in the area Giuseppina's Brick Oven Pizza is on 6th ave and 20th street. The owner of Giuseppina's is Chris Iacono whose brother is Mark who owns Lucali. Now if if you want a classic Brooklyn Style go to Luigi's Pizza on 5th and 20th. The pizza place was also used in the Adam Sandler movie Big Daddy. GreenWood Park (Beer Garden) is also on the same street but on 7th ave.
@@HereBeBarr people in NYC are always willing to help. That's how I found Wo-Hop back in 2000. I asked a bunch construction guys in China Town if they could recommend a good chinese restaurant. They even told me what I should order lol
I love visiting New York and I always pass this cemetery, which is very noticeable, when I travel to Coney Island on the subway. Next time I’ll definitely pay a visit.
Fascinating. One of my fav videos from your channel. Love that you got the special access to see inside these beautiful tombs. Hilarious motto. Great tour
I have family members burried there. It's truly a beautiful cemetary. HOWEVER, the groundskeeping is, shall we say, lacking in certain area. When I went to visit my father's grave last year, grass/weeds were thigh-high. Really annoying after evening rain when the everything's wet.
Omg! I live like a 15min walk from Greenwood Cemetary and only been to it 3 times! A family freinds burial, a close freinds dad cremation, and to leave flowers for a close freinds grandma who is buried there! But neva for exploring! I need to chek it out!:)
I was wondering if you visited Mount Judah cemetery in Queens, NY. There is the grave of Victor David Brenner (1871-1924) the sculptor who designed the Lincoln Penny.
Nice video, alot of older cities have these types of cemitaries. The Detroit / Pontiac have these. I grew up an a rual area and all the larger and some of the family cemitaries have war memorials.
My daughter's ex-boyfriend is going to be buried here on 3/19/23. He passed away on 3/14/23. We're grieving of course but it's extra hard because it was a suicide. They were talking before his passing and he wanted to see her again. They loved to go to beautiful places when they were together and I'm heartbroken. I wish this wouldn't have happened and that instead of not being here, he was alive and they could have visited it together.
Great topic and video. Yes, Greenwood was definitely Central Park before there was a Central Park. One small suggestion: Turn off the drum track when entering a mausoleum or showing a close up of a grave. It’s not just a park or a museum; it is also a graveyard, so a basic modicum of respect is required, just as when one visits a beautiful old church or temple.
A little more respect for the dead would be nice. You turn a graveyard into a spooky Disneyland. Standing laughing in a mausoleum shows a childish behaviour. This mausoleum was built for a certain purpose and the purpose was guaranteed not to entertain you.
