My hubby saves all his greeting cards from special occasions, so I made him his very first junk journal... not that it's actually a "journal", but it's a keepsake to hold all his cards that he loves so dearly. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching 🙂❤
If you are new here, welcome! Please note: I usually just turn on my camera and chatter while I work. It's not fancy. It's not clever tutorials (although I do hope you learn something.) It's just me creating in my studio 🥰🎨 #junkjournals

Thank you so much! He is definitely a keeper. I think I now have enough MORE cards to make 2 more books. I told him he needs to start being a little choosier on which cards to keep and which ones maybe can be recycled. But he's not ready. LOL.

Thank you. My hubby also saves cards... and so do I. Recently I asked him if he'd like a "journal" to keep them in... and he said he'd love that. So I've been looking for a journal style that I could make that would help him keep his cards together. This concept is perfect.

That's precious. I like the way you put the cards in so they could be seen in full and enjoyed without messing them up. And I love the way u guys "alter" your greeting cards. We do that too! Great doggie cartoon, btw!

I love this concept. I create lots of cards for my grands (4 1\4 by 5 1\2 size) for any occasion, and none at all. Thinking readers digests book would be a good size and a good first attempt.

I love this and I love the way you inserted the cards so you can look at one whole card at a time and then move to the next card. Do you have a tutorial showing how you threaded the binding cords?
@CatherineSunnysideJournals
@CatherineSunnysideJournals 2 года назад
I didn't make a video showing that... but it's quite simple: I just looped a continuous string through the upper and lower holes (the ones that are parallel to each other) over and over again until I was happy with what I thought how many cards it could hold, and then tied it in a knot. Then did the same next along the row of eyelets until all the eyelets had lots of loops through them. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if I can explain better.

You made me chuckle. Clearly you honor your husband, even if you don't experientially enjoy his sentimentality all the time. In my marriage, I am the sentimental one, so I am searching for what to do with wedding cards (31 years ago!) I want to save, but store in a much more delightful way than another box. So thank you for sharing! You blessed my heart tonight, and you helped me solve a problem. And you did it with such grace. Blessings! :)

I am starting a greeting card journal for my aunts 100th birthday. I see you have six signatures sewn in but many more than 6 cards inside. How is each card sewn in please?
@CatherineSunnysideJournals
@CatherineSunnysideJournals 14 дней назад
Each card is not sewn in. I put thin elastic loops through each eyelet hole. I believe 5 or 6 per hole. That way each card can be opened and looked at as you go through it just like turning the pages of a book. I'll rewatch the video and see if I can find the spot where I explain this so hopefully my description makes better sense. ~~Catherine

Yes. I put 4 loops of strings through each hole. My hubby LOVES his! It's time for me to make him a new one. Maybe for Christmas this year.

@@CatherineSunnysideJournals Thank you so much for the explanation! I found this interesting, because my husband doesn't want to toss any cards given to him, either. Especially mine, but also from other members of my family. Maybe because most of his family is gone. Thanks again.

Wondering if the cards are dated on the back by the pricing information. The particular day.month should be obvious by the occasion on the card? Maybe? Looking for ideas to sort my greeting cards. Thank you!

How did you bind the cards in the journal?
@CatherineSunnysideJournals
@CatherineSunnysideJournals 2 года назад
Hi Carole -- I made the journal like a traveler's notebook. There are strings through the eyelets on the spine, and then I tucked the cards through the strings. So they are still movable and removable. It works great!

@@CatherineSunnysideJournals I think this idea is wonderful. After my husband passed on in 2020 I saved all the sympathy cards I received. I didn’t really have a plan for doing anything with them until I watched your video. I now have a plan!! I started sorting the cards by size and shape, then I cut out the return address labels and glued them inside of the card as a reference. Some cards had hand written notes so I’ve decided to add pockets to those pages for the notes. This morning I had an idea to add several photos of my husband, randomly placed, throughout the journal. I’m so excited to work on this project now, I know my children and grandchildren will love seeing it and reading all the lovely stories our friends shared. All this creativity began with your lovely post. Thank you ever so much. I also have a box of greeting cards I received from my husband over the years for holidays, birthdays and anniversaries, that will be another journal project. I’m thinking maybe an altered book would be fun for these cards. Thanks again. Happy Holidays 🎄
