Greg, thank you for everything you do. I love listening to your play calls. I mute the tv guys just to listen to you. Thank you for your passion, knowledge and your excitement in your calls.
Retzlaff is back to the old BYU QB development model which is develop for 1-2 years and then play your last 2 years. He should be an evern better QB next year.
The biggest difference between this season and last is BYU's depth. BYU's 1s and 2s last year matched up well against their Big XII competition. But, as the season wore on and the injuries mounted, BYU had to play a lot of their 3s and 4s and there was a large drop in performance. This season there hasn't been as many injuries. Yet, when BYU's needed to play their subs, they have (for the most part) performed well. A big reason why BYU has so much more depth this year is because of all the playing time the 3s and 4s got last season.
Getting ahead of ourselves guys. The Utes will bring it on the 8'th. One game at a time. Remember? I've seen BYU in this situation before. 1990 and 2001. Both of those seasons started red hot and ended in disaster. This year?
This comment s--ucks. Major injuries often lead to losing games, especially for teams stuck outside of a major conference. They just don't have equal replacements when their 1st string goes down, espeically when 2nd string already went down. The term "disaster" doesn't quite fit the nuance of the 2001 situation. And really because the 2001 situation was based on injury, there isn't really anything 2024 could do to prepare to not have their season be a disaster. It is just the luck of the injury gods. So hence your comment makes no sense.
