Greta Van Fleet - Highway Tune - Live at Coachella 2018 Weekend 1 Sorry about the guy waving the palm tree! Also.. how about not holding up palm trees during shows? Lol.
When you have technical difficulties IMPROV BASS SOLO! YESSSSS and I love how right when they fix the guitar they go right back to the song it’s so perfect they should make the bass solo part of the song 😂
I actually sang in a band for awhile and we had technical problems with the guitar once during a live performance, the bass filled things out really nicely and I thought "Wow, the bass does more to make this song sound good than I realized!" :)
02:00 - Look at wee Josh's face when the guitar cuts out. Smiling away. Sam goes for not oft seen Bass solo and Danny keeps the party moving along on the skins. Then pick up on a dime from whence you left off. This is how you deal with adversity - with absolute class!
Gotta love how he raises his hand at 2:45 after playing that bass solo (which was eargasmic)..it's amazing how seamlessly thry connect with a simple riff once the issue is resolved.
OK, I have seen a lot of stuff. But I haven't seen a recovery like that in a live performance before, which maintained the pace of the song and ended up sounding like a purposeful spinoff of their own song. Well done. Power goes out on the electric guitar? So? Insta-bass solo and song improv when the problem gets fixed. Other artists would have caved and whined, and probably went and blamed someone. These guys? They remembered there was an audience out there.
@@ErnestLemmingway Did his guitar stop making any noise? Not to even remotely slag on the mighty SRV, of course... just saying... LOL. I'm genuinely curious what happened, as SRV is one of my favorites but I'm not overly familiar with his live performances, aside from having watched a handful by video.
This is why Sam Kiszka (The Bassist) is my Favorite Band member of Greta Van Fleet. He's a Badass Bassist for me. But I hope they don't stop what are they doing, they are continuing Rock too avoid Its extinction. That is Sad if the next Generation didn't even know how great Rock or even Metal is, right?
I really hope that when they finally release the full album, they go back and edit this song to actually include the bass solo just like this. And have the guitar come back in the same exact way it did here. It was perfect!
How can you not love this band. The songs are incredible. Plus look how when they had those sound problems they just rolled with it. With big smiles on there faces they sucked it up and kept right on going. I love Greta Van Fleet. Glad im seeing there emergence on to the world wide scene. I think it's historic.
Whoa they recovered from THAT? Without calling names I can think of some "rock stars" that would have walked off, started cursing everyone or become insufferable divas. These guys rolled with the punches, they are professionals and they're so young!
And yeah one more thing, how these guys handled the sound problem. Dude, these are professionals. Can't wait to hear more from these young guys!!!! WELL DONE!
Love the way the boys stayed composed when the power screwed up, and just kept going. I can think of a few bigger named bands that would have had a hissy fit & walked off. ( G&R)
Guns/Axl wasn’t like that until they got bigger. I saw Guns play in small clubs around L.A. area and Axl was the coolest dude until the first big tour that last about 2 years. These guys are not there yet, check in a year or so and that would be about the same timing Axl made arena crowds wait hours. These boys will be well season men in 1-2 years, tour years. Ever here Live Like a Suicide? That’s when Guns were like this.
Bass Keeper Didn’t Radiohead walk off stage twice last year at Coachella because of sound issues? For whatever reason Coachella has issues every year with sound, but you are right about some bands are cool until their ego gets too big.
I thank its great that people who’ve done nothing criticize those who do everything. It’s a live show, unedited. It’s raw, like rock is supposed to be. They aren’t posers, created in a sound studio. They’re honest musicians. Yeah I hear Led Zeppelin but the vocals are closer to Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees then Robert Plant. I just hope teen agers get the music, and what the guys are. Real musicians.
I just read some editorial about how Beyonce is the goddess of music. I think these guys are much more entertaining. Every time Beyonce hits the stage, people act like it's the second coming of Christ. You protest too much, weirdos! THESE guys are the star of Coachella!
mercster Personally, I see Beyonce more as an entertainer than a musician. Greta Van Fleet seems like the type of band that makes a balance of entertainment and the quality of the music
Your reply made me think of another movement in music that was much more about "entertainment" and not a whole lot about musical talent: disco. The world was on fire with disco, and then the rockers stood up and said "No more" (see: punk, other late 70s rockers). I hope that rock does to Beyonce what rock did to disco: bury it as a strange, pop-culture phenomenon that never really should have happened.
Even through the technical issues they maintained a professional demeanor far advanced for their years. Quite an impressive band. I imagine great music coming from these fine young musicians. I love listening to them!
Bass player and drummer did a great job by keeping the groove going during the guitar issue. Awesome bass solo, had me listening the whole time and it was a tasty jam. Great job by the drummer to keep it simple and steady, not show off over the bass player. The song energy never died and crowd never lost interest. Lesson for a you young bands, keep playing through the issue and bring backup gear so one problem don’t kill your gig. This is a practiced, tight band and are fantastic live in every clip I have seen.
Murphy imposes law: Daniel stays true and steady for Sam without a care in the world. Sam shreds bass. Jake knows what needs to be done. Brilliant tech wizard works the fix under pressure. Josh keeps up the charming ad libs. They all fire up when the engine starts and proceed to light it up. That's Right!
I really like this band and I think they are set for amazing things. Very respectfully, I'd say that the drummer needs to watch his tempo. Anyway, really great. Thanks for uploading this.
It's even crazier to think they still haven't released their first album yet but they're finding their way. The sound guys really fucked up their set at Coachella though.
These guys are pro's, i seen more famous bands stop playing completely to fix a minor problem like this. They notice a problem and keep playing, the bass player steps up, the singer adds a bit of his own till things are fixed, not changing momentum in any way. I'll be keeping my eyes on these guys for sure, see how they develop more of their own style and... hopefully revive some of the classic rockscene at the same time.
Thx GVF to this revival, its like to travel on a time machine, im young too, not too young, but i never saw.Led Zeppelin or Rush early concerts personally, i was born in the 90's, anyway, thats cool to see how good music is eternal doesnt matter what age you are!
Im not sure people get we have here! My faith in rock n roll is reborn! And yes they sound like Zep, thats a good thing. Growing up on Zep was great. Just the fact these kids have that sound does my heart good. We need too help these guys grow. Best new band I've heard in many many years! Been a long time since I've rock and rolled. Been a long lonely lonely lonely. Time!!!!!!
silky johnston zepplin was not origanal it was a combination of many styles that created amazing music ,yes they sound like zepplin but they also have other songs that also sound like other bands and artist
All this mechanical music for many years and no real rockers. These lads take a guitar bass drums and power house vocalist and re create what i grew up with what motivated most rockers as we grew up. I'm 52 and am ready to start concert going again. Rock on
Makes me so happy to know that rock n roll won't die with the bands my dad grew up with and raised me with, ACDC, KISS, Aerosmith, Van Halen, etc. They make me think of Led Zeppelin. I definitely need to see them live!!
